:smh:

The raging waters swept 11 people away, and only five were rescued. Two of them are confirmed dead and are part of a toll across six states that has surpassed 180. Four others from the factory are still missing since they were washed away Friday in Erwin, where dozens of people were also rescued off the roof of a hospital.

Impact Plastics said in a statement Monday that it “continued to monitor weather conditions” Friday and that
managers dismissed employees “when water began to cover the parking lot and the adjacent service road, and the plant lost power.”
Worker Robert Jarvis told News 5 WCYB that he tried to drive away in his car, but the water on the main road got too high, and only off-road vehicles were finding ways out of the flood zone.

The 11 workers found temporary respite on the back of a semitruck driven by a passerby, but it soon tipped over after debris hit it, Ingram said.

Ingram said he survived by grabbing onto plastic pipes that were on the truck. He said he and four others floated for about half a mile (about 800 meters) before they found safety on a sturdy pile of debris.

I think they have a lot of illegal workers working at this plant so they treated them like subhuman.

Bingo...

The two confirmed dead at the Tennessee plastics factory are Mexican citizens, said Lisa Sherman-Nikolaus, executive director at the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition.

Hard to take that position working on that factory line though.

Go home like Baby I lost my job...2+kids, factory town.

These cats ain't gonna get a lawyer, even if they did they're in a right to work state.

But the end result being daddy never came home to tell his wife or kids he lost his job.

I’m pro-fuck-these-companies. Covid taught me that. I understand people’s circumstances, but I rather I be with my family struggling to find work, than to risk my life for some company that has no issue replacing me if I die.

No doubt.

But for an immigrant the choice isn't that easy.

Especially in the current anti-immigrant climate we have in this country.

The ones that stayed-and died-so far have been Mexican nationals...

So did they have work visas or were they illegal immigrants...

If they were illegal that ain't gonna bode well for that plant.

Or them being illegals could work in there favor as crazy as that sounds since many people would care significantly less about illegal aliens/Mexicans.

Reminds me of the Mayfield F4 tornado where the bosses at the candle factory told the workers they couldn't leave when the tornado warnings came through. Said if they did they'd be terminated. The tornado hit the factory killing nine people and burying the rest under the rubble of the roof. These bosses ain't shit.

Feds gonna be like...how'd they get hired without paperwork...same as those chicken factories in Mississippi etc.

The thing is they will only pay a fine at most and keep operating...

One monkey don't stop no show

For all the shit republicans say in these red states about immigration, they can't wait to hire undocumented workers to cut corners and save money.

Absolutely they do it.

Even if they paid the illegal and the American the same wage, one receives BENEFITS (the majority of a person's pay compensation) and the other doesn't...huge savings.

Also don't have to count him for payroll taxes. He's just getting straight cash on Friday.

Feds are the only ones who aew gonna step in. State will look the other way unless there's heat from the media.

Right to work or not, you're crazy if you think management can order you to do something that kills or injures you and then go them the breaks. Management said the machine was fixed and ready to go then Jefferson loss three fingers on it then the boss laughed and said, right to work state.

"The candle factory collapsed, leaving many workers trapped under the rubble and killing eight of them.

In March 2022, eight other living former employees sued MCP. The plaintiffs claimed their supervisors threatened them with termination if they left work during the storm."

Goodness. Not lost on me the irony of this news story being posted on the station website address of "11 alive".....WTF. This is horrible.

I remember that story. :smh:

I just glad I’m in a position when I can tell my job that I don’t give a shit.

I remember the last for profit school I worked at, we had a bad snow/ice storm coming through.

They tried to get me to stay, and I told them I wasn’t, so they threatened me. I said “whatever, I’m out.”

NC is a right to work state, so that’s why I have the attitude the way that I do.
