Nick Saban is retiring.

No
Alabama for years have been able to get the best high school recruits to sit on their bench as 3rd stringers to wait on their chance to play.

That's not happening now. Those players can now go get NIL money right away and transfer somewhere that will start them.

College football is 100% different now. Just look at all the players that had already transferred before his retirement.

You know what's funny? They used to say hardnosed college coaches wouldn't work in the NFL, because you can't yell at grown men making money. Now, it looks like that's going to be the case in college football now.
i have no problem with these kids getting money. but i agree with saban on the coaching end. the transfer portal is a mess and you can't build a team the way you'd like with so many moving pieces. you can't just slap a o-line together or a secondary . that chemistry takes years to develop. but you can't fault the kids for doing what they feel is best for them. but in the long run they miss that coaching and counseling bouncing around like their doing. of course it won't hurt 5 stars who's talent far exceeds coaching. but all the others this can be like a nfl player being on his third team , coach or coordinator.....it messes most of them up cause its so much to process

What Alabama was doing with recruiting was criminal to the rest of the college league. They were purposely getting a ton four and five star players to keep them away from other teams, and sometimes giving them money under the radar to be quiet (unofficial NIL).

So college sports has adopted the John Calapari / William Wesley model and Saban had the self awareness to know it wasn’t for him.

Not about the money because Alabama has been paying players since before Saban and will continue to pay them after Saban.

yeahhhhhh.....sure i guess. if that 's the case saban might as well stayed since he had already mastered paying players in the first place. saban complaining about nil and how a&m paying recruits years ago was just for show. all of the top 10 schools get a bunch of 4 and 5 stars. they still gotta be coached up

Like it or not the transfer portal and the NILs is starting to make college football even playing field.

It will still be the Have and Have Nots. TV networks own college football and right now the money is only going to 2 conferences.

There's a difference between a kid being forced to quietly take a few bucks under the table vs now where multiple folks on the same team can make 6+ figures out in the open.

i have no problem with that at all. these kids deserve their money. my main thing is these kids doing whats best for themselves in the portal. free agency is what has created parody in the nfl and its good. but like many have said college football is headed that way and i'm not sure about that. so at 72 you can't blame saban for retiring.

Again, he needs to retire, but the shit he was whining about Alabama was doing personally with NIL. Few months ago do you know Sanders hinted that Alabama was doing some illegal shit.

He will be announced as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons by Monday
So he can get 15 million a year that he doesn't have the time to spend because he spends 19 hours in the facility everyday?

I never understood that shit. I work 8 hour days. I can't imagine doubling that per day. And coaches double that plus some.

One of my favorite Nick Saban stories that I think captures the man in a single anecdote. I got it from @CoachBobStoops:

Saban was coaching DBs at MSU in the middle-1980s and was in Youngstown, Ohio all the time recruiting players. During one of the trips he went to a local tavern w/Stoops's uncle to have lunch and talk football.

The two got way into it, diagraming schemes and plays. While the two were locked into the FB klatch some guy walked in and robbed the place at gunpoint—fairly quietly, but flashed a gun and got the cash from the register and left.

Police came and questioned everyone. But before he could talk to Saban and Stoops, the bartender said: Forget those two, they didn't look up the entire time.

And it was true, neither guy knew anything about the robbery and were surprised to hear about it.

I personally liked Saban but I cant stand their obnoxious fans. Especially these southern billy bobs. You have to be down here to know how they act on the job when the team loses a game. They act as if football is life itself. To them, sports does not exist outside of Alabama / Auburn football. The pecking order here is God, racism, and football. It can go in any order depending on the time of year.

And right on cue
