I started watching basketball in 97 and Lakers/Celtics was totally dead outside of the KG years— generously they have had a real rivalry for 5 of the 25 years I’ve been watching.

Which speaks to how FAKE those fanbases have become. Celtics fans openly dickeat Kobe and one of their star players does as well, wearing Lakers colors during games. Lakers fans openly covet Celtics players. There was a time neither would ever happen, too intense a rivalry. The LeBron Era has been horrible when it comes to real NBA rivalries cuz everybody only wants to be rivals with one man and fanbase.

The average fan and player will tell you Michael Jordan being able to sell over priced sneakers is more important than all of that. Russell is the most unappreciated pioneer which is why I think the league did what it did retiring his number to try to steer some of these dumbasses to study his story. All they be knowing is Mike and Kobe's story.
