this was the DUMBEST fucking movie i wasted 2 hours of my life watching even when its opening intrduction of the house owners character literally told me " this movie is fucking stupid you should leave now"
it has the cardinal sin of a movie that is something that you should never have in a movie which is characters that keep something REALLY obvious and important to themselves that no other person would keep to themselves realistically ....
everyone one of the people in this movie are unlikeable asshats -- even Mahershala Alis character is ...unfucking likeable. even the daughter who yeah i would want to fuck ...until she opens her mouth - then i was like please god dont let her talk anymore.....where is the door.
this is a movie about people you wouldnt like - doing things that are not anything anyone would CHOOSE to do. and they are DUMBER than who they are supposedly are...
this is not a movie that makes any sense once you think about it - it sets up premises and things and they just mean nothing or they are jsut there to be weird.
keep 2 hours of your life . avoid this DUMB fucking movie.
- dude having nothing that shows he owns a fucking high end house on LI . DUMB.
- a Man that chooses to sleep in the basement of his own house for the dumb reason he gives - STUPID
- the mother that somehow is involved in a technology career having no idea about how technology even rudimentally works and even she GETS messages about it - she seemingly acts like she doesnt know how it works.....and shes married to a husband who is a fucking professor of media and HE doesnt know how shit works ....in a movie with a premise about a breakdown in communications.....
- i could go on - a prepper that somehow stays on the ground floor of his house - that BUILDS bunkers for a career !!!!!! and knows somethign is happeneing and yet STILL stays in his house .....WTF???
oh and all of Long Island is soemhow deserted - no other people ....just them -- even in an exclusive part of LI which is fucking impossible . ...
this movie is DUMB . the writer is DUMB . and i am DUMB for waiting to see if it got any better after the first 30 minutes......

This wasn’t a dumb movie. I thought it was going to be dumb by reading some of the reviews but after looking at it, it was extremely interesting. I think people who don’t like this movie have a political bent with Obama. Nevertheless, the movie is very interesting and I still think that Obama was trying to tell us something.

Again, I thought the movie was interesting, but Julia Roberts character did annoy me.
This part I agree with. Seeing something, knowing something and keeping it to yourself for some reason without a good explanation.
He explained it, but he didn't explain it well. He could have proven they owned the house by going up to his office and breaking out the pictures.
that part was somewhat understandable. (Not the sleeping in the basement part) no way I'm sleeping in the basement of my own home.
His character was sheepish because of race (that's what they wanted to illustrate) he had found success, by muting his blackness, expecting the worst from whites, and trying not to play into their stereotypes in order to move in the world and make money.
His daughter knew that of him, she was the newer generation that said "fuck that we have agency and we matter"...that's why she had little respect for her father and kept cutting him off when he spoke.
That part of the film to me? Was the only part I really liked. It's a metaphor for how a lot of black folks move in the country. We have to "go-along-to-get-along" in many cases to reap the rewards away from "white gaze". Ends to a means type shit.
In his case? He took it too far in a life or death situation. Obama consulted on this film and I felt that part was his input right there. Balancing the line between being black and not "seeming black". They could make a whole movie based on just this alone.
Anothe dumb part. And even on LI, a nuke goes off in New York your still dead from radiation spreading. Unless you were already inside the bunker and away from it all.
The movie was too long, drug in a lot of parts. Kept you guessing at certain parts, but failed with some of the things you mentioned.

This was not it - this was a few scenes that got interesting but fell apart overall becuase they also wanted to make a disaster suspense movie
Would have been better off that they just made it Julia roberts her husband and Mahershla a d his daughter and let the sparks fly between them all .

Obama was telling us how he had to move in the white world. That was the most telling part of the film.
"Muted power". Mahershala Ali's character was OBAMA. Even though he was rich, powerful, he had to move in a way that didn't scare whites or make them feel uncomfortable. In order to keep that power he had to constantly shrink himself. His daughter was a metaphor for black America and the younger generation today. She kept talking over him, or questioning why he didn't assert himself, she had no respect for him but still love and needed him. This is the most profound take from the film.

A d there is no way any of the characters of the Father or Daughter are anything more than shallow stupid unbelievably dumb creations ....that again are completely and totally unlikable .

Watched it tonight, was a decent thriller, but felt too long. I wish more answers were given though, like flamingos flocking all the way to the northeast? And the deer….what was it about the deer. My wife said their natural navigation systems were out of wack but I still wanted an explanation. Solid 7/10.

I appreciated its attempt to inform people about the different challenges technology has to our future but its a stretch to call it a movie. A bunch of subplots that went no where.

Bingo!!! I watched the movie a second time, and I picked up on more things. This movie went over a lot of peoples head especially if they are close minded and or trolls.
