The league has a superstar problem brother. They need one. Face of the league is dam near 40. They gotta groom a new guy. They wanted it to be Zion, but he like food too much. Wanted it to be Jah, but he like guns too much. They gonna try to make it AntMan but Black Americans been letting em down so they hedging with the Frenchie.

I don't think they have a superstar problem

They have a young American superstar problem

Lebron, KD and Steph are 30+

Who's the best young American? Tatum, Ja and Booker? You have Shai and Ant coming on strong.

but the NBA is foreign and white right now.

That's why I pointed out the Chet shit ESPN is trying to pull.

:cmonson:

I understand that’s your man crush but no need to tell objectively false lies to build up your boo:

Not sure what one cherry picked viewership stat has to do with the indisputable fact that LeBron is and has been the face of the league for decades. He also beats Curry out on apparel sales and flat out crushes him on sneaker sales.. Steph simply is not an interesting figure off the court and thus carries no impact outside of actual game play. LeBron is daily news on debate shows, topics and fodder for sports talk and tv with several shows, journalist, and personalities having built their brands on covering him.

Same thing. The American superstar -particularly Black American- is what carries the league and sport leagues in general.. If you dont have one the brand is in trouble. Shai isnt marketable, has no personality, game doesnt translate to highlight reel, and hes Canadian..

What sports media yaps about is attributable to many factors.

You're right, Steph is not interesting off the court. But when it comes to actually watching basketball, he is FAR AND AWAY the main attraction. And has been for nearly a decade.

It's not about sneakers-- Only you and KingStan talk about sneakers in this thread and that metric probably had Jordan ahead of LeBron for much of if not all of his career. Doesn't matter to me-- That's fashion and hype.

"Face of the league" is the person people want to watch most.

That has not been LeBron since Miami.

Canibus told LL "Your prime ended eight months before 99 and that microphone on your arm will always be mine." LeBron's brief tenure as face of the league ended in 2015 and that crown on his back belongs to King Curry.

Shai don't count he's Canadian...
Overall though very valid points

It's not about sneakers-
Nike runs the NBA my man.. The league was funded in large part due to campaigns bought and paid for by Nike with Mike Jordan as the face. This was used in partnership with the NBA to promote the brand. Sneaker sales is a HUGE aspect of NBA brand and success and an equally huge measurement of player relevance and popularity.

Also, i can cherry pick favorable viewership stats for LeBron as well...

The 2023 NBA Playoffs are the most-watched on ESPN platforms in 11 years, since 2012, according to Nielsen. Through 31 games, the NBA Playoffs on ESPN platforms have averaged 5,579,000 viewers, up nine percent from last year.

Last night’s series-clinching victory by the Denver Nuggets over the Los Angeles Lakers averaged 8,209,000 viewers, peaking with 11,482,000 viewers from 11-11:15 p.m. ET. It was the most-watched NBA Conference Finals Game 4 on ESPN platforms in eight years, since 2015.

The Western Conference Finals was up 44 percent from the last time ESPN had the event in 2021, and up 17 percent from last year’s Western Conference Finals.

You're pointing to numbers from one year.

I cited ... ALL OF THE MOST-WATCHED GAMES SINCE 2015!!!

These metrics are not the same.

ALL OF THE MOST-WATCHED GAMES OVER 8 YEARS-- That's not cherry-picked. That's reality.

I think Poole's season so far is a case study in bullying. You couldn't make this video for Curry as well? Everybody misses shots but the whole internet has decided Poole is the new Swaggy P.

I still think the kid will be an all-star one day. A lot of people are going to eat their words.
