State Farm General Insurance Company®: California New Business Update
State Farm General Insurance Company®, State Farm’s provider of homeowners insurance in California, will cease accepting new applications including all business and personal lines property and casualty insurance, effective May 27, 2023. This decision does not impact personal auto insurance. State Farm General Insurance Company made this decision due to historic increases in construction costs outpacing inflation, rapidly growing catastrophe exposure, and a challenging reinsurance market.
We take seriously our responsibility to manage risk. We recognize the Governor’s administration, legislators, and the California Department of Insurance (CDI) for their wildfire loss mitigation efforts. We pledge to work constructively with the CDI and policymakers to help build market capacity in California. However, it’s necessary to take these actions now to improve the company’s financial strength. We will continue to evaluate our approach based on changing market conditions. State Farm® independent contractor agents licensed and authorized in California will continue to serve existing customers for these products and new customers for products not impacted by this decision.

You got it. Wasn't gonna say because it was internal info but seems to be out there now.
Was all over the news Friday, I saw it but my neighbor, in TX told me how he had them for auto and home and many things they review and didn't pay him on so he dropped them for usaa a few years ago. Everyone says State Farm don't pay claims all the time. Terrible...
If home owners were only dependent on state farm for insurance there is no point to own a home in California.State Farm stops home insurance sales in California, citing wildfire risks

This roofing guy was talking to me and was telling me like a month ago, thank God you don't have State Farm they are the worst at paying out on damage claims for roof jobs he gets. I knew nothing about them prior to all this stuff from hurricanes and flood that I've been through. Just heard stories from neighbors.I don't work in claims so I can't really comment on that. I will say that I'm sure a lot of people don't take time to understand their coverages and then something happens and they find out they aren't covered for a particular claim. That's why they have to sign a form saying they reject certain limits or coverages, uninsured for example.
People cut their coverages to get the price down and then blame the company when they have a claim that ain't covered. I'm speaking on the car side, not home insurance.

It’s funny because State Farm actually started doing a lot of bullshit after hurricane Andrew… but in the 90s the Florida government (which were somewhat democratic) kept them in check. Now fast forward 20+ years…. Now you have a republican asshole as governor annd republican assholes in the state house and senate. Those stupid Republicans are making things bad for their own constituents.I don't want to get too deep in talking about my employer but they used to more or less just cut the check. But all the storms over the last decade or so changed that. It's a necessary evil...you don't hear about all the companies that go insolvent due to claims payouts.
Many of us felt it last year, my Texas Windstorm Ins company went insolvent last year. Thousands of people across the south was forced to go with others mid term of the policy, was a headache.I don't want to get too deep in talking about my employer but they used to more or less just cut the check.
