So it's probably actually going to be like 30-35 AAV and he'll be able to get $40 million with incentives.

I'm cool with that

Nah the 160 is solid, he can earn an extra 35 mil on top of that.

So it's 40 mil and he can get to damn near 50 mil a year with incentives.

:smh: Dis nigga. :smh:

$40 million a year, plus another $35 milly on top of that?
Cot Damn !!! :eek2:
Wasn't Daniel Jones about to be benched just last season?
Or am I remembering it wrong? :dunno:

And how much cap space do the Giants have left after this contract?
This shit is like when Jacksonville gave all that money to average ass Christian Kirk
Stupid idiots reset the market & fucked it up for every other team

Keep in mind Daniel Jones had a really horrid receiver corps to work with so only having 15TDs is a representation of that. He did make up for it on the ground with over 700 yds rushing and 7 TDs. What's crazy is this deal is gonna look like a steal compared to what QBs demand next season. Whether Daniel Jones continues to trend upwards remains to be seen but I believe in Daboll. Now we gotta get him a true #1 receiver. It worked wonders for Josh Allen & Jalen Hurts.

Right.

I trust Daboll and Schoen. I truly believe once we get the offensive line locked down that DJ will be a top 10 QB.

Daniel Jones doesn't have the benefit of Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts of being average QBs behind elite offensive lines.

You know this actually proves my point, right? The Cowboys' offensive line is no longer elite pass blocking, that's what made Dak Prescott look average at times this year. The only saving grace for Dak Prescott is that the Dallas offensive line is top 10 in run-blocking.

Daniel Jones has neither. Jalen Hurts has both.

That's if he's even available. We're not the only team in need of a receiver and we pick at the tailend of the draft. Personally I like the idea of getting Zay Flowers but I also would like for us to get a tall receiver for them 50/50 deep passes

Cowboys o-line was definitely nicked with injuries this year. Even with that I'd still take your o-line over what we had this past year. Andrew Thomas is an absolute keeper. Evan Neal had growing pains but it was his 1st year so he will improve. Our interior line was trash though

Center > WR
I disagree. We have absolutely no one in our receiver corps that is remotely close to a #1 receiver. Defenses don't fear our pass game at all. Give DJ a legit #1 and the offense can be very dangerous. I also think guard position is needed more than center though I wouldn't be mad at us improving at either spot.

I think the Giants were stuck in a tough spot, shoulda just paid DJs option last offseason, in hindsight.

It'll be interesting to see how ya'll re-stock the rest of the roster next few years. Ya'll think Saquon is gonna be cool with the tag?

Now that the Giants have signed quarterback Daniel Jones and franchise tagged running back Saquon Barkley, let’s take a look at general manager Joe Schoen’s updated salary cap situation entering free agency, which starts Monday.

Heading into Tuesday, Schoen effectively had $52.7 million in cap space, once you factor in the impending Kenny Golladay release, according to overthecap.com’s estimate.

Jones’ contract reportedly will carry about a $19 million cap hit in Year 1, while Barkley’s tag is worth $10 million. That drops Schoen to $23.7 million.

Jones’ tag would’ve been worth $32.416 million — not much more than the aforementioned $29 million combined — but retaining Barkley means Schoen doesn’t have to address running back this offseason.

Don’t forget about the 2023 cap space Schoen must set aside for his draft picks — $3.1 million. That essentially drops him to $20.6 million.

Can Schoen free up more cap space for free agency?

Yes, he can.

With Golladay gone — he officially will be released next Wednesday, when the NFL’s new league year begins — the Giants’ top two cap hits this year belong to defensive lineman Leonard Williams ($32.2 million) and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson ($19 million).

Don’t expect either player to take a pay cut, which always comes with the threat of being released. The Giants are trying to build on last season’s divisional playoff run, and Williams and Jackson are both good starters. Schoen needs them.

So also don’t expect them to be cut, even though that would free up $12 million (Williams) and $8.6 million (Jackson) in cap space. Schoen isn’t that desperate for cap space, presuming he’s even inclined to spend big in free agency. And again, he’s trying to win in 2023, not tear down and rebuild.

How, then, could Schoen find more cap space in the Williams and Jackson contracts? Well, his most likely option is a restructure of some sort — which might involve a small extension. Though both players are entering their final contract year in 2023, both also technically have a void year in 2024, which provides some wiggle room for cap and restructuring purposes.

Barkley and Schoen now have until July 17 to work out a long-term contract — or else Barkley will play this season on a one-year contract for the tag figure. If the two sides do finalize a long-term deal, that would lower Barkley’s 2023 cap hit from its current $10 million number.

But considering the current stalled state of Barkley’s negotiations, it’s likely that number will sit on Schoen’s books during free agency — if not much longer, into July.
