Democrats just secured the midterms and 2024 election full stop

Those the same young voters that don't show up for Bernie Sanders. They'll either say it's not enough, switch to complaining about something else, or say voting is too inconvenient. I don't trust them.

Yep Republicans got caught with their pants down with this race now they are going to get extremely nervous because I thought homeboy was going to lose by at least five points but yikes let’s see what happens but this is very interesting.

I'm mad because my child that is currently in college won't reap this benefit and I paid mine off.

Most of the people I know that are happy about this are fiscally irresponsible and always on a trip.

..but won't she reap the benefits of better policy going forward? Or possibly another child, niece, or nephew that won't face the same situation.. if not due to policy changes, then from circumstance?

It's not just about us/now, it's about everyone and changing how this shit is managed in the future. It's been a fucked up system that has hamstrung those who could least afford it.

I swear these mofos will start back complaining the minute they have to start back payments in Dec lol.

That 5% of max of discretionary income payment is a massive deal. People will have to go out and vote because the Republicans will try to take this away.

What policy is changing to make college cheaper?

I was under the impression the only people reaping this benefit are people that haven't paid their debt up until June or July of this year.

I might be mistaken on that part but I haven't see anything that addresses anyone past June/July of 2022 plus college is still insanely expensive.

I ate ramen noodles for two years at one point but never missed a loan repayment.

I went through financial ruin in 2008 but never missed a payment.

I'm not mad at the individuals getting the repayment but I''m cool on Joe Biden and the DNC.

..for REAL though. I did the math and if my calculation is correct it would cut my current payment per month nearly in half. If so, I'm still planning on over-paying per month to get the balance down faster since I would have more than I need (technically).

Personally, even with all breaks I still owe a grip.. and I BEEN paying and willing to pay my part (it's "in the budget" at this point). But being able to see some light at the end of the tunnel and now being better equipped / fiscally responsible than I was straight outta college makes a hell of a difference. It's great to feel like the powers that be are working WITH us for a change.

My fault I may have misunderstood your exact beef. If its the current cost of college that you're focused on, I got no answer for you, but I agree shit is crazy expensive.

What I'm more speaking about is that I think this movement isn't going to stop just with forgiveness. I think the awareness of how this whole loan/repayment system is set up will see changes in the coming years. I think we're already seeing a bit of that with the caps/changes to the IBR options and loan servicer changes.

Congrats on paying all your loans back, for real. Obviously, we all know how hard it must have been, given that we are in the same boat. Look forward to joining you soon and coming up like you did brotha.

This is what it's all about to me. From my amateur POV, you're about to have a bunch of folks (esp. black folks, POC) that are going to actually have the financials to finally buy property. A huge step personally for a number of obvious reasons, but also potentially for the economy..

Republicans are in a tough spot with this issue because I was reading through some of their Twitter account post and people are giving them hell right now

Yup. Like I said before, if orange man would have won, best believe niggas wouldn’t have gotten shit.

Two things.

1. If you have student debt,. That means you went to college and are now working as a lawyer, computer engineer, financial analyst. You're making$160K. Pay off your debt.

2. You went to college and dropped out. Working now as a customer service representative, etc. You should have finished.

3. You got a shithole degree. Found out that being a theater major wasn't going to pay the bills and are now working at a bagel shop. (Yea I know someone that did that). Your failure is not my responsibility. Pay your debt.

We're paying off the loans of aome people that are making millions. Unfuckingbelievable.

This. And I was #2 for a minute till I decided to get off my ass and finish. Cuz having student loan debt with no degree is an ultimate L.

Change doesn’t happen over night. Who would’ve thought we would even gotten this far in 2 years. I can not stress to you all how the rep. wanted to get rid of EVERYTHING! Even the IBR fuck a PSLF. They wanted you to pay regardless of your financially situation. This is the start of a movement that our kids and grandkids kids will hopefully benefit from.

Once again, when orange man was in office, he had a bitch running the dept of education who had zero experience in education, but for sure had a background in the private sector. I hate that bitch Betsy with all my fucking heart.

THIS especially. Like I said, either by (a) continued policy changes, or (b) us being better equipped to guide them based on our experiences.

I know when I and most of my peers were young in HS, it was "do whatever you have to do to go to college".. so we did, but didn't really know what we didn't know about how big and long the financial impact would be (and those telling us to go by any means didn't really know either, in hindsight). You think any of our parents or relatives would have let us fall into this trap knowingly?

I'm saying we all dug our own hole, and to me it was worth it given the circumstances... but same time I def would have done it a little differently if I wasn't a bubble-headed 19 year old making financial decisions that most banks wouldn't even readily give out to people twice that age for a house..

Everyone is jaded. You can get easy e-cred by saying everyone is corrupt, everything is a scam and conspiracy, etc.

But this will help a lot of people.

I just hope those same people, when they're the ones paying the taxes and not getting any benefits will remember and be willing to help people like they just got helped.
