EDDY CURRY TURNED DOWN 400K/YR FOR 50 YEARS TO TAKE A DNA TEST

850credit

Rising Star
BGOL Investor

The Bulls, worried that Curry might have a congenital heart condition, despite several cardiologist clearing him to play, insisted that Curry take a DNA test to rule it out. Basketball stars Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers had recently passed away from such conditions.

Chicago even offered Curry an annuity of $400,000 per year for 50 years if he took the DNA test and failed. He still refused.

The issue became so heated, with Curry refusing to take the test, that the Bulls ended up trading him to the New York Knicks.

What!!! I never knew this. I wonder if he felt the organization was lying about the deal.

A no lose proposition

He's never bee that bright, ever since I saw him on some doc or whatever I thought he was as stupid as he looked and this just confirms it because I would of took that test twice for $400k a year for 50 years when most don't even last in the league for ten.

I remember watching him on ESPN or something buy his Escalade on rims on it.

His Vlad interview is good.

Yeah he was a dimwit even at Thornwood.

He purchased 2 Escalades his senior year with agent money but he knew he couldn't qualify to play in college anyway.

Actually he was smart to say no. If he took that test and failed he would be untouchable to the rest of the league. He refused, got traded to the Knicks and made $44 million just with them alone. More than double the $20 million. Then made another $12 million over the next three seasons before he was out the league.

Nice research

I under stand why he did it. would you take 20 millon over 50 years or sign for the knicks and make 15million/year and endorsement deals?

Cause you damn well know you spending money like water and you ain't gonna be making NBA money 50 years from now.

Shouldn't have had to explain this to him but somebody should have sat him down.

Plus that's what you make IF YOU FAIL THE TEST. Meaning it's a fail safe for you if you can not medically play ball anymore.

If he could still play, no problem, you keep getting NBA checks.

Eddy Curry said he was willing to take the DNA test but was advised against it
Curry says he was going to take the test because he just wanted to get back on the court, but his agent told him not to because he didn’t want Curry setting a precedent that could affect other African-Americans coming through the league.

The most recent off-court troubles that Curry has been going through came to light just a few weeks ago, when reports surfaced that, despite making over $57 million during his nine-year NBA career, he is currently broke, and actually about $2 million in debt.

Hmmmm

Would have made out better with the long term deal tax wise though. Still in the end he aight.

20 over 50 or 50 over 5, makes no difference if you can't manage your money.

20 over 50 or 50 over 5, makes no difference if you can't manage your money.

That is why he should have an annuity. So he would have a source of income over 50 years rather than blow it all in 5.

Only way I turn down the deal is if the 400k is peanuts compared to what his insurance policy payout would be...sounds like the Bulls were trying to have that agreement supersede so that the Bulls would save money. That would make sense as to why the agent advised him not to do the test.

The NBA contract is fully guaranteed so if he came up with a condition that's on the Bulls to do prior due diligence...maybe they were looking for a cheaper alternative to paying out that contract.

This fat nigga turned down 20 mill over 50 years? What a fuckin dumb ass.. I would’ve taken that dna test… That’s a win win proposition… You know how good you living off $400k a year? Smh

watch the video, he explains it why it didn't make financial sense. I would not have it either.

These guys don't read shit.

Good on him. This is like that scenario of would you rather take $1 mil today or $ 0.01 that will double in value every day for the next 30 days. Here is a hint: the penny that doubles in value every day will end up being over $5 in 30 days.

The point is that most people would have chose the $1mil upfront. The Bulls may have been trying to pull a fast one by dangling that carrot in front of him. Ain't no telling what stipulations that contract would have had for the next 50 years. He could have gotten a parking ticket and it may have voided the contract.

Inflation would have crushed that money. Way better to take it now and get the pain over with. Always take the money and put it to work in assets.

For normal rational people yes. For him I disagree.

He spent up all his money and had to beg the team for advances and loans. He needed to be saved from himself like Iverson.

Having some guaranteed future income if he was unable to ball would have been good.

Eddy Curry was Adrien Broner before AB in terms of blowing money.
