Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey criticized for launching ‘Bitcoin Academy’ in Marcy Projects.

Jay Z has a solid reputation, he is providing education, and there doesn't seem to be any financial incentive in it for him. I suspect that the folks in Marcy are excited about it. Instead of actually interviewing notable people in or from Marcy, a negative narrative is introduced with the support of random Twitter posts. The handful of Twitter posts might be coming from bots, CACs, or even the author of the article. CACs did the same thing when Gabby Douglas won at the Olympics. Large numbers of us were not even thinking about her hair but the media pushed a narrative that there was some huge backlash in our community and used a few random Twitter posts as proof. Never take these folks articles and words at face value. Always be skeptical.

The crypto big-dogs can correct me anywhere I'm misspeaking, but: At the end of the day, at the very least, I still see BTC as a medium of exchange. Even beyond the value as a possible appreciating asset (like a share of stock), my first and most direct experience with BTC specifically is as THE medium of exchange that most folks count on for unregulated online transactions.

I think there is value in learning how that works. ESPECIALLY if/when it does become regulated and leads to bigger things down the road. In some way shape or form, at least one of these cryptos or smart contracts are going to play a role in the Digital Dollar, or in making foreign transactions faster. For our people to be introduced to information like this, and the chance that a handful may latch on and make a career of something that caught their attention thru exposure at this stage is a positive imo. (and I can't STAND Jiggaman, fyi)

I'm actually skeptical that people are having a problem with this. Jay Z has a solid reputation, he is providing education, and there doesn't seem to be any financial incentive in it for him. You mean like helping kick the people out that lived where Barclays at for his money grab?

Check out this financial expert's opinion...

Warren Buffett wouldn’t buy ‘all of the bitcoin in the world’ for $25: ‘It doesn’t produce anything’
He is not the only financial expert. He could be right or he could be wrong, but there are lots of banks buying and investing in 100s of millions of dollars in crypto.

These banks would not invest that kind of money if they thought that this was some scheme.

What's wrong with teaching people about crypto just in case it does become the future? It's a school for learning!! Who said they will have to use their money to do anything??

Why not just wait and see what the plans are instead of jumping to conclusions? I know hate makes you do some crazy things.

Capitalism is the common denominator. So the solution isn't mote capitalism via investing. They don't have disposable income or the luxury for either of these. Jobs which Dorsey and Jay-Z can provide would be much better
Capitalism is the problem 100%. However, that problem isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. So it’s either go to war with the system, (which would be ideal) or adjust.

And if you got $500 for a pair of sneakers, you can invest that and truly better your position.

Facts. I'm all for teaching financial literacy, but if you're in the projects chances are you don't have a lot of disposable income to invest in a mutual fund, let alone something as volatile as crypto. Shit they might not even have an emergency savings fund.
Providing jobs along with knowledge so poor people can use this knowledge to invest would be ideal. Providing knowledge to starving poor people who don't know where their next meal is coming from but will know how to buy a Bitcoin Is foolish

You both are showing your unfamiliarity with project living and lifestyle. Everybody in the Projects isn't dirt poor and hungry.

How can people make money with no income? You want poor people to spend their last on Bitcoin? LMAO

Have you ever seen an empty parking lot in the projects?

How do they get cars with no income ?

TVs ?

Video Games?

Jordans?

Fam our folks cant wait to attack our own, before its even up and running lol.

Lot of folks here really out of touch with and or do not know what NYC projects are like. This notion that people in low income housing do not have income is just not true. Go to the PJs and see how many people in REAL Gucci, Real J's, Real trash diamonds, there is money in the low income areas its just not allocated to the proper investments. I grew up in several projects in NY, but moms and pops were financially literate and understood the value of getting house. Seems like people are caught up on bitcoin but it doesnt seem like its just that. Imagine if our folks just took 1/10 of what we spent on Luxury Euro and invested in some BTC, or stocks, or etf?

Only our folks will find a way to criticize someone Black from the community trying to educate our own.

I have some BTC/ADA/ETH Im not super invested but I do realize it is here to stay in some form or fashion, Im a dinosaur but I still try and stay in the mix when it comes to financial literacy.

Peace

I'm not sure if most have reservations because Bitcoin is mentioned, but either way. Knowledge is knowledge. Some of you dudes on here may have learned how to manage money early on, I didn't. I wish I had someone giving me knowledge years ago about finances. I was ignorant. I'm ok with that. its not what I did wrong, its what I'm doing right & what am I doing "right now" to be better. One thing about me, I don't make fun of other people for not knowing. I always try to be a part of the solution not the problem. Sounds like that's what J is trying to do. Thats my 2 cents.

I never said dirt poor and hungry.

I said disposable income.

Investing in a $500 pair of sneakers with no disposable income is a better investment than crypto or stocks since at least you're getting the pair of shoes you want at an equal exchange.

If you don't have $500 to lose, and you invest it in something that drops by 5% then what? Stocks ain't a guarantee either.

I can't speak for NY but where I grew up at, if you was consistently wearing expensive shit you was selling drugs.

Both are losing positions
Exactly. It’s the point of choosing one or another. And Hov is doing (and has done) his part in helping the lesser of the two evils.

“Sorry I can’t give you a Mercedes Benz coupe but here’s a free Nissan Altima.”

“This nigga really gave me a fucking Altima ..”

:dunno:
Lol what do you expect the man to REALLY do other than help?

Our folks about to be in line for Popeyes Chicken, and we really believe we about to overthrow capitalism? The problem is our folks continuously think collectively as a young people. That is a problem. The revolution is financial, but that way of thinking is not young. The only reason we fail in capitalism is because we give it back, and or dont monetize it. Just imagine if the 80s to now we have financially literate athletes and entertainers...

THIS is my point. Im an entrepreneur but my moms was like yo College college college. I did it, got a Masters, and was walking around broke as a joke with a prestigious position while my man at the crib was selling fish on the corner making 4x more than me. He purchased BUILDINGS in the BX and was CHILLING. We use to apartment hop and he would have PS2/3 in there we drinking eating, and go to another spot for an hour. I soaked up the game from him.

FF quit career and looked at my retirement and was like HOLY SHIT. Im 40 and have NOTHING. Got literate real quick just because I had too, and had the habits from school to study research and was juts disciplined. In 3 years I was good on retirement. 7 years deep, I can hang up my work days by 50 God willing. I wont but just saying literacy is EVERYTHING. I invested Heavy, purchased a home and started a couple of other business.

Thats from financial education. If you are a business owner you see parallels in ALL businesses, if you can learn one finical piece you can learn the rest. You think if cat learns BTC he not gonna be interested in stocks, and anything that gives you a return?

Gotcha, in your opinion, what can he do that would help people better understand finances?
I don't think they need to better under stand finances without any capital. They need jobs and better living situations. Crime is a product of poverty and unemployment.

Actually help...provide jobs

Boom. There it is.

There’s no substitute for financial education. None.

We agree.

But what they don't tell you outright is that if you wanna generate wealth, it takes money to make money. If you don't have enough money to invest, then the only option is to generate more income. That's gonna be hard for a lot of people.

Agree 100% but again, we fail to look at ourselves with some of our own purchases. Let’s start with self, fix that first, and then tear into someone for trying to help, because all we’re doing is deflecting and not addressing the way WE spend our dollars.

Dollars that could be otherwise used to benefit US.

Accountability matters.

Bitcoin education is a topic. A lot of people are confused about it and do not know where to go to for education.

You can learn about something without buying it.

Maybe learning about Bitcoin, people will be able to KNOW if it is for them or not.

Jay Z owes these people nothing. They don't have to sign up.

This is part of the financial literacy that is missed. We all know a cat with a car worth 50k that is living in the pjs, a car worth 30k lets say 25k gives him 25k to invest just off this ONE sensible change in spending habits. This is what 25k in Apple would be worth if invested 10 years ago. We not even talking about 5k a year. Its a long term game.

If you'd invested 25,000 in Apple Inc (AAPL) on June 10, 2012, today the investment would be worth:
201,255.16
Annual rate of return: 23.16
Total increase: 705.02
Total profit: 176,255.16

Fam this is it. I know we hate to look in the mirror but many of us here KNOW we are our own worst enemies at the moment. We have bunch of enemies but the first one is our mind then its the person who looks like us.

True. Time in the market is better than timing the market. No disrespect to Warren Buffet, but that nigga been investing since the 1940s or some shit. Of course he's rich. That's a lot of compound interest when you live to be 90 or however old he is.

But let's not get it twisted though. Hindsight is 20/20. Apple could have just as easily tanked and that 25k would be worth 15 or worse. That's why I consistently use the phrase disposable income. It has to be money that you're ok with losing imo.

I would have much preferred if he did Investments in the Stock Market.

It does sound like he is going to sell them something but you got to be savvy and not buy BS.

People buying expensive clothes ain't the real reason why they're stuck in poverty though if we wanna keep it a buck.

I don’t see what the problem is.
Nah, Bitcoin’s a scam. What he needs to teach is a nationwide flower(Sou Sou). Now that’s a real come up for the culture.

Spitting pure facts bro. We REFUSE to be objective and look internally. It’s horrible. No other race of people function like this.

How come Asians can come together, pool their finances and open restaurants? How come Hispanics can come together, pool their finances and start landscaping businesses?

We can make excuses all we want but until we figure out how to look at ourselves objectively and then come together, this rugged individualism we practice and preach ain’t lifting us outta shit.

At least Jay is providing education when nobody else is.

He also, DOESN’T have to do this.

Shit Hispanics build entire communities not just landscaping...

They build landscaping, Electricians,Plumbers and then open groceries and bodegas

And they utilize those businesses without looking for some trustworthy white business to overcharge them.

They need a skilled worker they look right into their own neighborhood.

then they create political power in the neighborhood, the school board

but you'll have ignorant mofokrs talking bout the government gives them this and that.

well i watched them mofokrs living 20 in a 2 bedroom an sharing electric with the houses on each side. 100ln bag of flour 100lb bag of beans a pet chicken for eggs and a pet goat for milk.....eat them burritos for a couple years all while banking that bag 20x 5.00 per hour adds up quick

the they own the 3 houses, then the own the block, then the own the whole hood.
