Report: Veteran NBA Guard Shabazz Napier Leaving Russian Team Amid Ukraine Conflict

Former NBA guard Shabazz Napier is leaving BC Zenit in Saint Petersburg as Russia invades Ukraine, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Napier has not played in the NBA since the 2019-20 season, when he spent time with Minnesota and Washington. The former UConn star has been with BC Zenit since last July, when he signed a one-year deal with the EuroLeague club.

Napier was nearing a return from an ankle injury, per Wojnarowski, but elected to leave the club and return to the United States.

Napier is best known for his senior season at UConn in 2013, when he was the star point guard during the Huskies’s improbable run to the national championship as a seven-seed. Napier was named the Most Outstanding Player in the national title game after UConn beat Kentucky 60–54 to claim the school’s fourth men’s basketball national title.
Damn I didn't know he was playing over there

Nobody cares when ESPN is taking a shit on small markets or trying to push star players out of one but the eventual trickle-down of ESPN's narrative driving and spin is that talented teams and young stars don't get enough attention because they are focused on a 9th place Laker team or a non-existent Knicks team

NBA Twitter shits all over ESPN's coverage and will highlight the entire league.
The NBA wants its biggest stars in big markets. That's a known thing and small market teams have always complained about that.

I like seeing Doc keeping Embiid & Maxey on the floor together, but I can't say the same for the Harden & Millsap.
I'd rather see some more Embiid & Harden while Paul helps keep the bench warm.
Actually I'd rather see Paul Reed on the floor with Harden cause he'll roll to the basket.

Looks like Harden starting to get those calls... and the good Harden showed up in Philly... that makes then scary...

But

If NY lifts those mask mandates and the Nets get Kyrie back along with Simmons coming into the fold... that's a formidable Big 3... Joe Harris should be back soon as well...

That trade benefits both teams. I don't see any losers here.
Agreed

I need to see sixers play Bucks, Heat, Full Nets, Celtics in meaningful games before I can tell fully if it will work or not; I'm on the end of not sure to not truly working though...
Long way to go but ultimately Glenn Rivers will be the one to fuck this up. Though through these 1st two games his rotations have been much much better. I'd sit Millsap and play Paul Reed though. Long way to go though. Long way to go.

Concur but it is encouraging signs. Because if they wasn't getting it done against scrubs, then...

Man I seen that dude scared to shoot a lay-up....when I seen that? I thought it was bigger than what they letting on....

Because he didn’t want his pride hurt by missing free throws.

There couple be something wrong with him, but I seriously doubt it. Because there was literally nothing mentally wrong with him until those fines came in.
