I guess everybody forgot how they used to wear the confederate flag as their gear until 2015, huh? :smh:

I always considered the Briscoes the white equivalent of New Jack. They're backwoods redneck heels that do and say outrageous things. The Confederate flag was apart of their whole shtick as it generated them massive heat. No different from what New Jack did back in "Smoky Mountain Wrestling" when he cut promos congratulating OJ on allegedly killing Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman and all the other racial over the top stuff he did as apart of "Da Gangstas". The idea was to piss off white people and get people worked.

Once the Briscoes started to gain more popularity and turned babyface they ditched the Confederate gear. With that said this brings up the question many wrestlers face. When does the gimmick end and real life start? Those lines are often blurred. People say New Jack lived out his gimmick and hardly anybody knew who Jerome Young was. This is why I don't know if the Briscoes are inherently racist or not. To say for sure either way you may be getting worked.

I agree with Swole, hopefully they took her criticisms to heart.

And although she didn't say it, I feel like she meant Brandi doesn't represent us, and I would agree. I thought that "black bitch" line was cringey as fuck.

They won't. Pro wrestling still tries to appeal to a primary white male audience between 18 - 49. Most won't see the issue or explain it away. I do like her point that in the end, it's a scripted television show. Anyone can be champion.

ETA. I don't get why she left. Couldn't she more of an influence if she was still with the company?

The Charleston massacre and Sinclair corporation forced the Briscoes to ditch their gear. No sympathy for them.

:hithead: I swear Tony Kahn is so sensitive to criticism.

ppl of color or brown ppl =/= black representation on screen or in management
black talent is very rarely featured on their on main show and if it is it's a young black wrestler doing the favors

either Tony is really dumb when it comes to these issues or he playing dumb

there have been many dynamintes where a black person didnt make one appearance

I read the article and some of Swole's criticism is valid and some of it isn't.

1. She was frustrated that the women weren't getting enough time on Dynamite: The lack of time the women get has more to do with the executives at TNT than it does Tony Khan. They didn't want more than one women's match on Dynamite. That limits what you can do from a booking standpoint. If you want to be apart of that one women's match you have to prove your worth. A lot of times the matches that involved Swole weren't good because she isn't a good worker. Yes, it's frustrating that the women don't get more time but you also have to take some personal responsibility.

2. She doesn't like that AEW doesn't have writers and that you have to come up with stuff on your own. She feels not everyone is comfortable with coming up with their own stories/promos and if you don't have that ability then you don't get used: My response to that is that's what creative freedom is. Nobody should have to spoon feed you stories. I'm not even a wrestler and I could pitch to Tony Khan five different stories that I can do with various opponents. You're in the wrestling business. You're not there just to wrestle. You have to tell compelling stories as well because that's how you sell a match and make money. That's not just the booker's responsibility that's your responsibility as a wrestler.

3. She claims a lack of diversity in AEW as in there's nobody black at the top: Why that may be technically true who outside of Jay Lethal would be qualified to be a world champion that's black in AEW. Scorpio sky? Powerhouse Hobbs? Lio Rush? Dante Martin? As far as the women you got Jade, Red Velvet, and Brandi. Are any of those women honestly world champion material right now? I get that you don't have a lot of black wrestlers but if you want to get to the top it has to be earned. Nobody should give you shit just because you're black.

4. Tony Khan's response could've been worded better but he's not wrong.

Most of the comments are saying the same that Tony should have not commented and he's done more hard now.

He probably took what Swole had the say personal and responded out of emotion. If there's one thing I've learned over the years is never respond out of emotion. Always have a logical measured response to everything.

Swole is right and very fucking wrong. It sounds like AEW gives you the freedom to write and come up with your own storyline and promos. That's all you can ask for!!! That's y so many people have left or wanted to leave WWE. A chance. Vince ain't listening to shit. Swole as a black female could've met up with the others and wrote a hell of a storyline for them but she wants to be told what to do. Imagine getting a job you've always wanted and they tell you write your own path. How do you think this should go for you? She kinda dropped the ball here.

Yes, it's scripted television but you still have to earn your spot. Do you honestly believe Big Swole was world championship material? The problem I have with this is I'm hearing all her criticisms of what needs to be fixed in AEW but I'm not hearing any personal responsibility taken on her part as to why she's a lackluster worker.

Exactly. If I was a wrestler I would have 10 stories already written in a notebook on standby to pitch to whoever was the booker in that promotion. All you got to do is use your imagination.

I think what she was getting at was, because it's scripted you can build up anyone. If you want to. There's no excuse to wait 50 years to build up a black talent to get that spot.

You can build up anyone but you need the talent to be built up. If you suck at cutting promos and you don't have any ring ability then you're not going to get built up. Doesn't matter if you black, white, brown, green, yellow or whatever. Either she's naive or thinks too highly of herself.

Don't get yourself fired bruh. Talk to Tony personally. Don't handle that shit on Twitter.

Lio the King of self sabtotage/quitting
Tony was wrong as fuck but this aint the way to address it

whats very telling is how many AEW (non black wrestlers) liked Tony's post which validates Swole point
there is a problem with black presentation in wrestling. took WWE years to make positive constient strides.

AEW fucked up by promising diversity but writing checks they couldnt cash

That was also one of the things she thought they needed, was a creative department to aid in all of that. Sounds like she might have been happier in a WWE/NXT type system, but I don't see how far she would have gotten there either.

Technically they do have diversity. Diversity doesn't mean just black. You have Asian wrestlers, Latino wrestlers, native American wrestlers, etc. AEW isn't all white. The first three Women's champions were Japanese and native American. The first tag Team champions crowned were Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian. The current tag team champions are the Lucha Brothers. Sammy Guevara was recently the TNT champ. As I stated in a previous post who black outside of Jay Lethal is world champion material right now? Everybody else black is either two green or two bland to make it to the top. You can't just push somebody because they're black. They have to have the talent and earn the spot.

Told cats months ago that AEW is just as bad (if not worse) when it comes to the way they treat their Black wrestlers.

I never seen a wrestler complain about having creative freedom. You shouldn't need writers to come up with shit for you. She wouldn't have gotten far in WWE. She would've been an NXT lifer never making it to the main roster. She also wouldn't be Big Swole anymore. They would've changed the hell out of her gimmick

you pulling a Tony Kahn
rather than admit that there is a legit issue Tony choices to ignore the issue, deflects and attempts to delegitimize the thoughts of a black woman
swole wasnt even that critical but simply honest

as I mentioned this isnt only an AEW problem but a wrestling problem in general
you dont address the issue about black presenation by touting your brown execs and how many black ppl have appeared on your programming the last month (I bet if someone looked at the numbers most shows there were only one black wrestler on the show and more often than not that black wrestler lost)

but you know what they say about a hit dog

Crazy thing is, she didn't even say they treated her bad, lol. She said everyone was treated like family it was just things she personally thought would make them a better promotion. I see now why Lil Swole (Nicole Savoy ) never signed with the company.

dude thinks he is the real wrestling messiah and above reproach/criticism
read something only that his response sounds like something Trump would say

only thing missing was my him saying...
look at my African Americans over there on AEW Dark...Jade, Bowens, Caster, Dante, Nyla, Isiah & Marq Quen all won on tv this month. I let Swole’s contract expire as I felt her wrestling wasn’t good enough.

In the last three years, WWE has had three Black Mens World Champions, numerous title reigns of their secondary titles (US and IC titles) as well as Tag Title. Even WWE women's championships have been held by Black Women.

AEW let a Tranny hold their women's title before a Black woman. Their only Black Champion to date was. one half of their Tag Title if I'm not mistaken. Oh yeah, and the FTW title, but that isn't even a real championship.

For all the pushing diversity shit cats swore up and down on when it came to AEW their top guys are still CACs. Even when CM Punk and Bryan Danielson showed up, the rest of their talent, Black wrestlers included, took back seats

Yeah, they'll give a Japanese wrestler some shine (because Omega is a Japanophile) but the way AEW has treated its Black wrestlers has been despicable.
