I mentor and this reminds me of the stupid, self destructive behavior I see all of the time. I started reading psych journals and shit trying to understand it because it made no sense at all to me and I was really tired of dealing with the same shit over and over again.
I posted in another thread about it but certain people get a dopamine hit from dumb shit like this similar to that from heroin:
