Naw homie. GOP gonna do what they do, but REFORMING the police sounds NOTHING like DEFUNDING the police. Most people understand that REFORMING means "improvement" in some way with the system staying functional. DEFUNDING sounds like you're going to dismantle it all completely.
I'm not talking about Republicans anyway. I'm talking about people who have voted straight democrat tickets their entire lives saying "I can't mess with the defunding" thing.
And it's not even an education-based thing. I'm talking democrats who follow politics that immediately shutdown over "DEFUNDING the police". First thing that comes to their mind is their neighborhoods being unsafe while all day every day the MSM was showing people rioting all over the country.
I can't believe people are so dense that they don't get this.
The problem is not necessarily about how the right twist shit (we know they will twist anything). The bigger problem is when you confuse the folks on your side.

That's the problem because defund the police depending on who you're talking to means something different. So you have one side that says...:
"No, no we don't want to abolish the police department silly. We just want to move some of the things they do but shouldn't be doing over to these folks along with some funding."
Then you have the other side that’s saying:
"Fuck the police. Dismantle that whole shit and burn it the fuck down"
Now both of these concepts are under one umbrella with one side (republicans) attaching the literal meaning to all dems and the other group (dems) trying to tell you we don't mean it literally.
Btw you have some people agreeing with both meanings of defund the police.

Absolutely fucking right. To even suggest disbanding the police is such
an insane idea that anyone would stop listening to you if you broached
such madness. The only reason why Democrats did not get completely
wiped out is that there were 15 million new voters since Barack Obama
who hated Trump so much that they prevented the GOP from taking the
majority in the house.
AOC, Ihand, Rashida and co. are naive and reckless. This is politics. You
have to be strategic. "Reform the police" would have placated all those
people who were generally concerned about their own safety when they
heard "Democrats" threaten to "end policing". They hated Trump, they
still voted against him, but no way were they go cede their homes, streets,
town to whim of criminals.
Of course "Defund" was exactly the extreme and excessive the expression
that fit the agenda of the AOCs. It was shocking enough, and from their
naive perspective, sure to so jolt the country that it would be ready to listen

For the most part, I like the "squad"... especially AOC... but you're not going to win the South running on DEFUNDING the police. It's not a good message. They need to stop being stubborn. Win first.

The funny thing about abolishing the police is if you were to go into certain areas of this country where white folk live. That's exactly what they want (we'll handle our own). To abolish not only the police but the government period. Yet those same people will get behind republicans who say the dems want ro dismantle the police department/ government.
Which just takes us back to poor white folk voting against their own interest because of "those black people, etc...".

When John Mulaney returned to host SNL right before the election on Halloween, he unintentionally sparked some controversy thanks to a joke in his monologue, in which he called the election an “elderly man contest” and argued that no matter who ended up winning, “nothing much will change in the United States.” There was more context to the joke than that, but still, people got mad! And while reflecting on the whole thing on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mulaney said the negative reaction was warranted. “I should have said ‘I very much want one to win over the other and there will be improvements if one wins.’ I deserve the backlash. I just forgot to do it,” he told Kimmel. “I forgot to make the joke good.” Just in case there was any confusion, Mulaney made it very clear to his critics that yes, he’s a Democrat who very much supported Biden: “I like people and I’m generally happy and not deeply angry, so I’m a Democrat.”
It turns out, though, that the election joke from October was not the most controversial SNL monologue joke Mulaney told in 2020. When he hosted the show on February 29, he made a leap year joke about how Julius Caesar became such a “powerful maniac” that he was stabbed to death by senators — after which Mulaney told the SNL audience, “That would be an interesting thing if we brought that back now!” Mulaney revealed to Kimmel that that punchline earned him a rare accomplishment: a Secret Service investigation. “I guess they opened a file on me because of the joke, and I have to say: Am I stoked there’s a file open on me? Absolutely. Did I enjoy it in the moment? Not so much,” he told Kimmel. Thankfully, Mulaney has since been cleared by the Secret Service — or at least he was told he had been cleared.
Later in the interview, Kimmel also asked Mulaney “what’s going on” with the recent news that he took a gig as a writer on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Mulaney offered a pretty thorough explanation about going crazy in quarantine and how he pitched the idea to Seth Meyers, but the whole thing is best summed up by something his psychiatrist told him: “Without external structure, I don’t have any confidence in you thriving.” Thankfully, Mulaney has found that much-needed structure: rambling to Meyers about ghosts and the royal family from the security of his Julian Casablancas trench coat. We all have to find sanity where we can get it these days.
