André 3000 has been named an influence and inspiration for many in the hip hop game, but specifically for Atlanta artists who idolize his work in Outkast and his solo projects. Despite being born and raised in the ATL, however, Young Thug is not one of those people. In fact, he claims he’s never even paid the “Hey Ya!” rapper any mind.

During an episode of T.I’s “ExpediTIously” podcast, the Paper Trail emcee likened Thugger’s fashion sense to André 3000 and was met with a moment of honesty. “I can’t rap you two André 3000 songs,” Thug said. “I ain’t never paid attention to him. Never in my life.”

Andre 3000 was spotted randomly playing his flute, again

Though he admitted a song between him and Three Stacks “would be crazy,” he noted his belief that it would be harder to get André 3000 on a track than it was to secure his Elton John collaboration. “The difference between Elton John and Andre is Elton John like to kiss ass, Andre likes his ass kissed,” Thug explained. “He’s just more of a fan type of nigga, to the point I’m like, ‘Nigga, let’s do music!’ He’s like, ‘Nigga, bet,’” he continued, adding the Outkast member would probably refer him to his secretary.

In 2018, André praised Thug’s courage and confident approach to music.

How Young Thug’s fiancée Jerrika Karlae really reacted to his album cover

“He’s exciting,” he told Complex. “There’s no box. He’s all over the place. To do those things he does, you have to have big fuckin’ balls. It’s almost harder than the guy who’s portraying hard, you know? It’s kind of mind-fucking people. It’s saying, ‘Don’t get too comfortable with me.’ That’s one of my mottos: Don’t let people get too comfortable with what you’re doing.”

But despite André’s comments and their similarities in style —something Erykah Badu also noticed — Thug seems to disagree with T.I. calling Three Stacks an ally to hip hop artists in Atlanta. “He’s who ally? Yeah fuckin right. Why you don’t rap like him? You don’t talk like him, dress like him, look like him. You ain’t trying to portray none of that,” he told. T.I.

Young people make millions of ignorance like this. This is just stupid. I hate how Black musicians forget last week, let alone greats like Dre.

but this is a new low for stupid..

Young Thug saying he don;t 3 stacks like that?

its laughable

like when Lupe said he didn't know Tribe. laughable.

I like Andre 3000 but I'm with YT on this one.

Just because an artist is great and groundbreaking doesn't necessarily mean that you have to put them on a pedestal. Especially when you've been in the game long enough that this artist becomes one of your peers.

Now if Andre 3000 had personally put him on and directly paved the way for him then I would feel quite differently. Instead all you really have is a shout out in an interview more than 2 years ago. Andre didn't have to go out on a limb to give him props. He certainly didn't back those words up with any kind of action, So Young thug owes him nothing.

But the point is that YT made up a false narrative. 3000 years ago told his generation of rappers to not look down on these newer artists. He specifically said he liked YT.

3000 is super humble and would never want his ass kissed. Big Oomp called 3000 out the blue and asked him to jump on the walk it out remix. Dude, walk it out??? And he did it on GP.

Respect!

Every artist in every level of the game has people that work with on GP for one reason or another. Young Thug just doesn't happen to be an artist that Andre 3000 has that kind of relationship with.

That's perfectly fine. Andre doesn't owe him anything, but it also works both ways.

As for that interview, if Andre 3000 had made those comments while Young Thug was on trial for rape or catching flack from making anti-semitic statements in the press then I would be the first to call Young Thug an ungrateful asshole. However, that wasn't the case so instead it's just a throwaway compliment.

Fascinating perspective...almost like you read the thread title but not the article itself

"I never paid attention to Andre 3000..."

3000 been clowning niggas like this. He also said he doesn’t rap anymore because nobody over 40 should be rapping lol

Who cares what he has to say.

Doesn’t this dude wear a dress.

Didn’t this dude go butt ass naked on his album cover?

Didn’t he name his debut album to spite Lil Wayne (Barter 6 right?)

This dude is wild corny.

He sounds like a wayyyyyy less talented version of 3 Stacks.

Name one classic verse from this dude? Classic album?

This generation of rappers (in the 10’s decade) are so lame cause they constantly disrespect the pioneers of this shit.

And that is a clown thing for 3 stacks to say if he said it.

Rap about grown man shit. Fatherhood, marriage, investing, black empowerment etc.....

Plenty of MC’s in their 40’s and 50’s rap about grown man shit.

The hiphop community needs to get rid of that stigma that only young people should be rapping.
