I don't think anyone did but Trump. Everyone underestimated how many of those people that he could actually activate. if I remember correctly, there are nearly 20m uneducated whites (mainly men) that don't vote. There were 500,000 in Wisconsin alone. Trump got those people activated with all his rhetoric. And those rallies work. Supposedly they're huge registration drivers. That's why he wasn't going to let anything stop him from doing them near the end because he understood how vital they were.
Combine that with white folks knowing the country is changing, whites (and people in general often are triggered to action by fear) and trump very effectively selling them if you dont vote for me, there is nothing that is going to keep mexicans from raping your daughters, black folks from moving to your neighborhoods, liberals from taking your jobs, etc...
Everyone has underestimated that dude. He's a formidable opponent. There is no doubt about it. I honestly believe if not for covid, he'd likely have won.
That's why this government doesn't fund schools well for this reason. The dumber the electorate, the easier it is for the people of power to stay in power. A lot of people in this country have no idea how the political process works, or how anything that is important in this society works. All they know is to get up, go to work and punch a clock. Outside of their profession/work, have no clue about anything else in the world or other countries. That's why I believe this country will continue to be in this cycle, where we elect someone capable, and then elect someone that shits the bed. 2 steps forward, 3 back.....every time

See, they don't really want to give PR statehood....another way Trump pissed off the power structure and they are glad he is gone after they got all their judges...PR was cool with being a territory as they realized independence (neo-colonialism) is a fraud after seeing their neighbors and being a state will lead to losing the uniqueness of PR as it becomes more integrated...Trump acted so extra with the island after the hurricane and rumors of him trying to sell it that he forced PRs hand...and now they want to be a state....part of the exploitation game is to not be too extra with it in case it leads to push back...Trump never got that so I know they glad he is gone so they can exploit in peace with all their judges now in place
