Tech Biz: Amazon releases new $90 Fire HD 8

You can get the 2019 for $329. You often can find it on sale on Amazon for $279 or $249.
Yeah, probably for the most basic low-end iPad.
At that point, is there really that much of a difference from the HD 10?
I mostly use my HD 10 for streaming DirecTV (which I'm doing right now), YouTube and watching movies via Kodi every now and then.
For that, it gets the job done with ease.

Yes, because it still can use an Apple Pencil and use a keyboard

Muchless iPad OS being a lot better than what's on the Fire HD.

Apple products run a lot better with less RAM without the lag.

you aint say NOTHING wrong

of course if all things were equal I'm getting an Ipad my kid has one

its more about a budget thing...

the price on the Fire is what it is even not on sale and even the newest version I got is like $100 total I didn't even get the 10 I needed something small reliable and easy to carry.

the Apple you gonna have to really search for a price under 300

now if I can REALLY get an ipad for under 200 10 inch screen brand new like you saying?>

I see your point a few dollars more get the SUPERIOR tablet.

But I think if you have prime and on a budget?

Yep and as I posted earlier here, you can easily put Google Play Store on them and remove the ads.
Best bang for the buck for a tablet.
i will say this though, if you're child is doing e-schooling and will need to be in Zoom meetings or whatever, that 2gb ram is not gonna hold up. This is fine for reading, browsing, and things like that. But if you need to be in a video session, get a more powerful tablet or laptop.

Hopefully these are highly improved. My kids get too comfortable with my iPad.

I try to tell people don’t sleep on the iPad. It’s one of the easiest devices I ever used. And sometimes I write movie scripts, so I don’t even need to pay for software. I download the free screenwriting app, and it formats and saves the whole script for me.

Ill take a look at this Amazon tablet though.

Not sure where you heard that from.
I use my HD 10 all the time for Zoom meetings with no issues whatsoever.
Also, use it to stream DirecTV and other video streaming services with no problem.

are you doing other things while in the zoom meetings? or is that the only app running at the time? just basing my observation off of other devices with that amount of ram.

No, I don't do anything else on the tablet during the Zoom meetings because I really don't need to and because I have a desktop PC.
No tablet is intended to take the place of a laptop or PC.

Any idea when a new updated Fire HD 10 might be coming out?

I don't want to pull the trigger on this then a new version is out in a few months.
This 10" version came out last October.
The 10" version before it came out in 2017, so I wouldn't expect a new 10" version this year.

I got in and received an additional discount cause it was delayed.

and it has been fire

no pun intended

gave the old one to the kids and but all the educational apps on it.

no issues at all just added a memory stick

use it to read books comics watch streaming listen to music and put movies on the stick.

Not slow.

But again I don't really surf the web or download anything serious on there, don't even check my email.

My kids gave me an Amazon gift card for Fathers Day to buy a Fire HD tablet since I complained that my iPad no longer holds a charge and dies quick.

I held off getting one thinking maybe a refresh is round the corner, but like @XXXplosive said they seem to refresh every 2 years.

Now wondering if I get a 64gb, or go for a 32gb and slap a memory card in it.

Save your money and get the 32GB. Memory cards are relatively cheap.

I'm super straight

Still can't figure out how PLEX works

I'm still using an Ipad 4.

Browsing is slow but not sluggish and still usable if you just have to use it.

watching Youtube is just as smooth as it was in 2012.

And it's perfect for reading ebooks.

For that reason I've been apprehensive about getting those cheaper tablets because I know the catch is that they'll have a shelf life of about 2 years before they are too sluggish to do anything.

got PLEX on my PC and TVs for years ...Still haven't figure out how to use it also.

Chromecast worked better

Once you get Plex installed on your PC and point it towards the movie and TV files on your PC, you also need to install it on your TV/Firestick/etc.
You should be good to go after that.

I got a fire tablet for my 1 year old to watch YouTube movies on. He kept touching the screen and freezing the videos. I tried to download an app to freeze the screen and it was impossible to find one. The Amazon app store barely has anything. Is there a way to use the Google play store with an Amazon tablet?
