Would you draft Karl Malone over Patrick Ewing?

With the #1 pick, I would take:

  • Ewing

  • Malone

  • other

What was Malone good enough for? Ewing at least won a title in college. The Knicks and Jazz went to the Finals the same number of times.
It's about the outcomes, the knicks got a lot of attention because they were the NYC knicks and after a few years they became predictable;Ewing was going to get his numbers but by the 4th they would always be in a life or death battle with really no one but Ewing and by the time he got help he was on his way out.I think they kept Ewing too long

It's just a reality,Malone may not have done any better or worse but it's something we'll never know

Ewing. Dude carried the Knicks. Starks was underrated too. Oakley and Mason were good role players. If the Knicks were in the Western conference back in the late 90's they would of been in at lease 3 finals.

A better question is how good would Ewing have been with that Jazz system, coach , and point guard?

The man already endured having bananas and slurs tossed at him consistently throughout his college career, being drafted by Utah after that would be cruel to wish on any man.

Malone better but no pat was better for the ny market not sure malone would have developed like that in ny.

Malone had the better career but also had the benefit of Stockton his entire career and Sloan and Sloan's system that took advantage of his skillset. Not sure if Malone could have handled the attention and NY media and if Malone had been in NY all the shady bullshit he did may have come out.

Malone never played a game without another Hall of Famer. Ewing never played a game with one, outside of Mark Jackson early in his career. Yet Ewing led his team to the Finals as many times in a tougher conference.

Ewing is an easy choice.
Technically, although he was a corpse........he did. :dunno:

Now, knowing what I know I would draft Malone over Ewing but at the time they were drafted, I would have taken Ewing. In that era size was everything, It got Sam Bowie drafted before Jordan

Imagine Mark Jackson and malone running up and down the floor like this

Even though I didn't like him the dude had skill

Not saying the Knicks would've won anything but I think things would've been interesting vs him and badboys, him and the bulls, him vs celtics... Than you got mid 90s... Lot of people would've hate seeing him, Jackson and Starks together

Would you draft Jordan over Olajuwon if you were the Rockets?

I don't think Malone would have survive NY media. He would have demand a trade or left as a free agent.

Tough choice. Even though it was Stockon who carried the Jazz in the Finals, Malone was no bum. Definitely a top 5, maybe even a top 3 power forward of all time.

The bummiest position in basketball.

Malone was the 13th pick, his own mother would not have picked him over Ewing at the time.

I'm wondering who the hell @Fresh1911 had in mind when he voted other.

I wouldn’t draft Malone over Ewing. Malone definitely had the better career. But like other posters have said... Malone had a top 5 PG all time and Jerry Sloan for 18 seasons. Who knows how Malone would look without Stockton.

Ewing was Ewing... Solid, dependable and a perfect fit in NY.
I hate the what if game. But both would have a minimum 1 championship if MJ wasn’t around
