The double standards here show how brainwashed these brothers are.
They still defend Democrats with their lives when Democrats have done more harm to our community than Republicans ever have.

Republicans exclusively used this rhetoric in the past towards black Democrats. Implying they cant think for themselves. Especially in 2008. 11 years later, white Democrats are using it and black Democrats are co signing. Who else gets beat up about how they vote like we do?
Our community has no idea of our history but what I’m seeing more of now is not only do these brothers shun learning their history but they are proud to continue living ignorantly.

I don't recall the term, "Blackground" being used by Republicans to impugn the character of Blacks voting for Democratic candidates. But I agree with you regarding them portraying our voting Democratic as us blindly voting - especially when Obama was running, as you pointed out. Of course, we know it is a mischaracterization and that Black people felt that Democrats were more likely to act in our interest. This, as opposed to Republicans who believed in less govt and, lining the pockets of the wealthy, rigging voting machines, rolling back voting civil rights legislation, cutting social programs etc.
The Dems were far from being 100% in favor of advancing us. But they were not four square against us like Republican presidential administrations of the last 40 years.
Trump is the most openly racist president in our lifetime, both in word and deed- and maybe the lifetime of our parents as well. The Black people in the background of Trump rallies are the apples to the oranges of those of us who have voted Democrat. They're Black people who are supporting the same candidate whom every major white supremacist organization has unilaterally endorsed. Bette Midler called it correctly, in this case. Context is everything.

I see the discomfort we might have in her statement. I feel like the sensitivity comes from a place of, "how dare a white person criticize one of our own and they themselves have fucked us over and fucked things up the whole world over."

Not saying it was right or wrong, but to be "fair" critics should at least know the history and context of the quote.
