Penny Marshall, dead at 75, or Laverne from 'Laverne & Shirley' dead ~~either one

I grew up on Laverne and Shirley reruns......crazy.....she been looking like death for the past 20 years......so yeah she's 70 but she looked like that for the past 20 years.

yeah, good point...., & in mind, I pretend that California never happened. & also, Fronzie, on Happy Days, never became a teacher.

Happy Days was worse,
The show was about Richie and his sidekicks Ralph/Potsie........
then it was about Richie and the Fonz.....
then the Fonz......
then the Fonz and Chachi.......
then the Joanie/Chachi and Fonz....
THen the Fonz when Joanie and Chachi left.........
Then Joanie Chachi and Fonz when they came back.

They brought in characters left and right that nobody gave a shit about. Then they would dissapear

I saw a later episode of Happy Days on Nick at night one time, I didn't recognize anybody.

Jefferson from "Married with Children".
The blonde chick from "WINGS"
Richie had a wife, but she was living with the Cunninghams.
Richie had a brother, then he didn't
Somewhere along the way they said "Fuck It" and started wearing modern clothes / hairstyles even though it was supposed to be the late 50's /early 60's
No Integration that's why they called it "Happy Days"

I guess it wasn't a coincidence since both shows were produced by the same people.

Lol, I was getting off work - you know that feeling. I sometimes sing, "Yabba, Dabba Doo"

Sue me. I'm 41, and still silly AF

Rest in peace, and condolences to their family. Her brother also passed away 2 years ago.

Garry Kent Marshall (November 13, 1934 – July 19, 2016)[2] was an American film director, film producer, screenwriter and actor, best known for creating Happy Days and its various spin-offs, developing Neil Simon's 1965 play The Odd Couple for television, and directing Pretty Woman, Beaches, Runaway Bride, Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, Mother's Day, The Princess Diaries, and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Was just about to ask about him. Both were legends in the game. He was a behind the scenes master.

:lol::roflmao::roflmao2::roflmao3::lol2:.....I loved your deep dive.

It was messy, I blotted out just how messy it was. Man, I don't even remember what happened to The Fonze's parents & how he ended living on top of the garage. We're not supposed to ask these questions, & did he pay rent?

They squeezed every ounce of juice from that orange...lol.

As for the integration, Karate kid fame- Pat Morita with his faux Asian accent......the owner of the diner (who was replaced by Italian Al)

and this dude:

During the third (1975-76) season of the hugely popular ABC sitcom Happy Days, a black drummer named Sticks appeared in two episodes. Played by John Anthony Bailey, Sticks was the focal point of "Fonzie's New Friend"--an episode about racism in which many people refuse to attend a luau at the Cunningham home when they learn that Sticks and his girlfriend would be present as guests. Sticks appeared in one other episode--"Fonzie the Superstar"--the amusing one in which Fonzie is cajoled into singing with Richie's band as a special attraction.

After that second appearance, Sticks just vanished from Happy Days. He didn't vanish from the entertainment industry, however. After his mainstream acting career dried up, Bailey became an actor in pornographic films using the name John Baker. He died of bladder cancer in 1994 at the age of 47.

Remember, Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley were both shows that represent a type of Americana in which there was no racial conflict.
In that era, Black people were supposed to be invisible members of a fringe society that didn't matter and were nothing more than background servants.
Like The Andy Griffith Show. Even though it was set in the '60's, the town of Mayberry and it's townsfolk were presented as if it was set in the '30's with absolutely NO Blacks or racial issues... :dunno:

We just simply didn't exist... :smh:

At least Shirley had enough sense to leave , the rest of them just stayed. I guess they couldn't give up those checks.

A steady paycheck is not to be fronted on. I don't remember seeing any of them in anything for a long time. The next time I saw Lenny he was on X Files. I don't recall seeing Squigly or Shirley in anything since L&S.

Damnnnn :smh:

Rip

She had a damn good run.

yeah, good point...., & in mind, I pretend that California never happened. & also, Fronzie, on Happy Days, never became a teacher.

Damn I had almost forgotten that. Yo remember Pinky Tuscadero and her heaux?

This man totally get's it.

All of my friends loved this show but I never saw any humor in it.

The same goes for Married with children... everybody loved that show but that shit was wack to me.

Anyway, she lived longer than most.

RIP.

Yeah unfortunately you are quite right. Couldn't be more accurate. We were pretty much invisible or non existent in these quiet small country towns portrayed on television and I loved most of those shows from that period. Great wholesome comedy and great writing but no black folks. Period.

Beverly Hillbillies another of my favorite shows from that era was the same way. TV in general with a few bold exceptions like "I Spy" and Bill Cosby and Dianne Carroll and her show I think it was called "Julia".

"All In The Family" from Norman Lear is what changed all of that. Beverly Hillbillies even had black folks that next year and had all types of political topics in their script writing. That turned out to be their final year and their worst as far as the quality of writing was concerned on their show but it was definitely more politically aware and astute that final year even though the writing was pure garbage the last year of that show.

Show was absolutely hilarious! Ten times funnier than Happy Days but had a much more wilder and goofier spirit. Much more Lucille Ball or Three's Company type wackiness. Happy Days was much more of a traditional sitcom. Laverne and Shirley was wild and zany. Lenny and Squiggy were far nuttier than Laverne and Shirley. Whole show was wild.

Now Happy Days I never ever liked from day one. It was just never funny to me. None of the characters were the least bit funny including The Fonz. He was a huge hit and I got his appeal but was a nothing burger to me and I was a youngin back then still in grade school and all that.

Well Squiggy got MS that's what slowed his career the only thing I've seen him and Carmine in was "A League of their Own"
Shirley had a couple of short lived tv shows . I remember one of them was with Thelma Hopkins.
Lenny stay in shit he was on SNL Dream on and Better call Saul. He always popping up in shit
I remember Pinky Tuscadero and then they gave her a sister Leather Tuscadero.

Who was coming up with those names

You ain't like Al Bundy? Man Al was that dude. Everybody on the show was good to me. Christina Applegate and Peg I forgot the actresses name were both hot white chicks to me. The Bud Bundy character and actor that played him were cool to me as well. Black dude was executive producer I think or head writer or something. I forget his name.

I honestly have no idea why Lavern and Shirley was my shit as a kid. As a kid who don't remember much before 1988.

Much like Ms. Wilson, I can't be mad. She lived. Diabetes though...could have manage that. But, she lived.

lol...dayum....I remember that dance.

Too bad their future jobs would have been probably ended up outsourced to Mexico.

Listening to that jingle reminds me of something the 5th dimension would sing. Listen to this and the song "Aquarius". They sound similar.
