Boogie Cousins to Golden State

Nah bro, Warriors will stay together 5 more years til Bron retires. They Jordan dickriders only hope now. :giggle:

What's stopping Lebron from getting a scoring title, League MVP, 1st team all defense, or leading the league in any statistical category?

He has not done any of this in 5 years. He should not be mentioned with Jordan. Isn't he supposed to be a great individual player or dominate?

This is actually hilarious. The salary cap was designed to help small market teams compete with the big city teams and improve overall parity. You can't blame the warriors for certain teams consistently making historical blunders (OKC Harden trade/Melo Trade) or not being well managed/coached (Knicks, Bulls et al.) I love the NBA but also follow F1 and soccer. It is amazing to me that the best NBA players are criticized for doing what is expected of the best performers in other sports. I can't imagine Hamilton saying fuck Mercedes, I want the challenge of driving for Force India or Messi saying fuck Barcelona I want the challenge of bringing Malaga back up. The NBA is great because it is the only sport in the US where black athletes have greater power than ownership/management.

Saw a post on Reddit about removing the cap on player contracts but keep the cap on team spending. Say someone signed a 300 million contract. That would end super teams unless players decided to take less.

What stopped Jordan from playing 16 seasons? A failed minor league career? An addiction to fried chicken and cigars? Jordan shouldnt be mentioned with LeBron, he didnt last very long.

It's the other teams fault.. No one made him any offers of significance. He did this because the other teams tried to wait him out and wanted to low ball him. He decided to take reins into his own hands and called GSW. They weren't recruiting him. He chose them to get back at the rest of the NBA.

We may not like it... but it makes sense to him to show the league how they made a mistake in doubting him because he got injured. The Pelicans were literally waiting him out. And then signed Julius Randle because of the playoff run they had without him playing.

Man he took this deal to rehabilitate his career. Ain't no way around it. He was hell bent on taking that deal from the Warriors. No way around it.

Celtics offered him more money supposedly..

Portland was interested in sign/trade but Boogie shares agents with the guy N.O. would've gotten in return

I just saw this shit...

And fuck the NBA... I’m done. This shit is like POWER to me now... it doesn’t make any fucking sense. You are basically going to have Three 3 teams loaded with superstars. What’s the point of even watching a small market team now.

You will never have a shot at a Title...

Never...

And the way the Draft and the one and Done system is right now.. even if you lose you don’t have much chance of getting better.

The ratings might be high but the NBA has a huge fucking problem on the horizon that they have got to get control of...

Cause right now they have a Parity problem the size of which that I’ve never seen before.

I mean I haven’t seen anything like this shit before.

You know what would create more super teams?
GMS drafting well and not overpaying for pieces that ain't shit just to say they spent some money.
that'd help way more than this.

That more money if true wasn't significant enough. It's not like Boston has a lot of cap space and were going to offer him just about what the Warriors did and he wouldn't have been a starter more than likely. Because teams weren't willing to offer him anything around $12 to $15 million that had the space and were contenders, he was like "Fuck Yall"... I will sign with the Warriors instead.

Again... I understand his anger. The Pelicans started feeling themselves because they swept the Blazers without him. They were just waiting until the other teams with Cap Space exhausted their funds. And then they signed Julius Randle. He was only to going to sign for that $5.3 million with the Warriors.

You absolutely HAVE seen something like this before all this revisionist history like people didn't know who was going to win the titles in the 80's
or the 90's
or when shaq and kobe were together
lol
we gonna act like all the teams legit thought they were gonna beat larry bird and magic and them then the pistons and them then jordan and them?

We always talk about how many hof players didn't have no rings cause why? lol
superteams. and they weren't on them.

Y’all telling me all this hoe ass shit good for the league?

Now I know what a fan of the Washington Generals must feel like...

I mean you have no fucking chance.
What’s the point of even buying season tickets for the Grizzlies if you know that have no fucking chance ... period. Period.. ever!!!

Like you can’t even go with the maybe next year approach. Unless you live in a major market... you have no shot at big free agents and no shot at minimum free agents.. you have to offer max deals for C list talent..

And cause the draft is basically a joke for any team outside of the Top 2... you can’t even hope that maybe you will get better in the draft.

The only hope that you might have is a trade but the way these contracts are now.. there’s no value in trading if you know the dude is going to opt-out.

This fucking shit has got to be stopped...

Fans act like no one remembers the fuckery in the 80's. The Lakers were adding 20ppg scorers (Mychael Thompson), really good NBA players (Norm Nixon) and past their prime HOF'ers (Bob McAdoo) to their already loaded teams. Not mention they added James Worthy with the #1 pick in that mix in the early 80's. The Celtics kept adding really good players and some how got a #1 pick in Len Bias. The Sixers a powerhouse team in the East added Moses Malone and then a few years later added a lottery pick in Charles Barkely and then a few years later traded the what became the #1 pick (Brad Daughtery) thinking Roy Hinson was going to to something.

The Detroit Pistons another really good NBA team added a perennial All Star in Adrian Dantley and then flipped him and got another 20 ppg scorer and All-Star Mark Aquire.

This is just that on steroids... LMAO

Man we have never seen anything like this before...

I’m talking about free agency, draft, and trades...

The entire system is fucked in the NBA right now.

Every team back in the 80s and 90s had at least two all star caliber players or at least known players and even though ... the Celtics and bulls had long runs.. it’s not like Michael wasn’t put to the test on his way there. I remember great Knicks and Indiana squads full of talent. Even then Vancouver Grizzlies had a squad.. they just had pure coaching. I could go on and on..

But back then.. at least smaller teams could hope to build something through the draft or trades but you can’t really rely on that now.

I’m never against... players getting the money and having a choice in where they want to go...

But you can’t compare what’s going on now to what went on back then.

Even when Shaq built the “dream team” in LA... you still had parity in the league. You still had quality drafts.. drafts that were 10 to 15 players deep. You had contracts that were trade friendly. And you just don’t have that now....

You also have big market teams that aren’t afraid of paying the luxury tax... which back in the day only a few even dared attempt it.

Smaller market teams like a Memphis are now basically forced to depend on D-league signings. Typically high drafted people that came to the league to soon... got cut .. and played in the d-league to finally reach their potential. The problem is that teams can’t rely on cast away talent.

For now I’m done .. with the NBA. Why would anyone who isn’t a Laker, OkC, golden state, New York, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, or Miami fan even care.. your team no matter how hard they try will never have a chance with they way the league is right now.

How $14.3 million set the New Orleans Pelicans back two years

"Dude, it's like a video game and you're able to make your unbeatable roster even more unbeatable. It's not fair. Does the NBA even have a salary cap?"

That was the reaction of my college-aged son, Jack, and probably many NBA observers, when New Orleans Pelicans free-agent forward DeMarcus Cousins agreed to terms Monday night (July 2) on a one-year deal with the two-time defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

Salary caps don't matter for the rich major-market teams, like Golden State or the Los Angeles Lakers, who signed Pels free-agent guard Rajon Rondo earlier Monday.

The big-city boys always have surplus revenue to pay the luxury tax bill when they leapfrog past the salary cap to buy the best and biggest guns for hire.

They squash the mini-market franchises like New Orleans, which scrounges for bargain-bin free-agent castaways.

The Pels lost two starters and replaced them with free agents such as four-year point guard Elfrid Payton and fifth-year forward Julius Randle, a former Kentucky star recruited by Pels star and fellow UK standout Anthony Davis.

It's not that Pels General Manager Dell Demps has been at his desk twiddling his thumbs on the first two days of the free-agency signing period.

But the Lakers anted up and signed LeBron James on Sunday, and he became the ultimate free-agent signing magnate. Who can blame Rondo for wanting to play with James, the NBA Finals whisperer?

Then, if you're a free agent like Cousins and Golden State wants him after he calls the Warriors and says he's willing to sign for the mid-level exception, it's like he hit the lottery.

Cousins told Marc Spears of ESPN that he was stunned that the Pelicans "didn't want him, didn't make an offer for him."

Think about this - the Pels lost two vital elements from last year's playoff team who accepted one-year deals worth $9 million and $5.3 million, respectively.

For a grand total of just $14.3 million, the Pelicans returned to the team it was two years ago when it finished 34-48.

It's the one with Jrue Holiday struggling as a scorer, because he's trying to play point guard instead of his natural shooting guard spot.

Last season with Rondo running the point, Holiday had considerably more open looks and better driving angles. Holiday's scoring average improved to 19 points per game last season, almost five points better than in 2016-17.

Two years ago when forward Anthony Davis had no help beyond Holiday to carry the scoring and rebounding load, the Pelicans lacked physical inside presence until the 6-11, 270-pound Cousins came to the Pels in a trade from Sacramento.

One of the reasons the Pels were able to survive without Cousins after his season-ending torn Achilles in late January this past season was Rondo. His court smarts and unquestioned leadership, honed by 12 years in the league with six teams, proved to be invaluable as New Orleans overcame the shock of losing Cousins.

Now, Rondo gets to set the table for James, the game's greatest player. At age 32, this is Rondo's best chance to ride off into the sunset with a second title. And maybe a third and a fourth.

Cousins, coming off surgery from an injury that is traditionally difficult to rehab and be the same great player as before, landed in the perfect situation.

He's landed in basketball nirvana on a team filled with Hall of Fame players who play without ego, where they all feed the hot shooter at the appropriate time, where they can score 15 points in a less than a minute.

As far as the Pels are concerned, they appear to be back at square one. The remaining bit of team chemistry that unexpectedly carried them into the second round of the playoffs this past season is gone.

Unless the Pels find some additional free-agent firepower -- and there doesn't seem to be much quality still on the market -- Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry has his work cut out for him.

He'll certainly earn the two-year contract extension he received in early June.

Being down here in Roll Tide Country, I usually find myself rooting for the two local teams New Orleans and Atlanta ( with the exception being the Cowboys) I'm not upset about Cousins leaving the Pelicans, and for that matter Rondo either. You have a chance to play for the defending champions and one of the premier franchises in all of sports or stay in New Orleans. It's a no-brainer. Playing for the Warriors will help calm Cousins down a lot and not be doing all that crazy shit he's use to doing because he's on a team full of veterans and he needs to fit in with them.

From the looks of it, New Orleans didn't give him an offer and like I've said a few times before in the past, the Pelicans weren't going to sign him to a contract that could the sink the franchise if he turns out to be a flop.
