The few who did go toe to toe were taken down like Weiner and Franken. In fact Avenatti reminds me a lot of Weiner. I'm just glad he isn't in a public office where he can be silenced. Dems for the most part play by the rules. They are so afraid of being labeled as unpatriotic or anti-American, soft on national security or something else, that they cave easily to avoid the appearance of evil, so to speak.

The GOP doesn't care. They will get caught in the midst of doing an illegal act and turn the tables where you are on the defensive for reporting the crime, rather than the crime itself being the issue. They are doing it now with the John McCain comments that staffer made. They are protecting the staffer and condemning the fact the comment from a private meeting got leaked. They are masters of changing the narrative. They have a propaganda machine that picks up the terms they use to do this. News papers all over the place. We don't have a coordinated effort like that between a news network and a newspapers. We pride ourselves on being rational and appealing to intellect and making sound arguments with facts. The GOP goes straight for emotions, usually stiring up fears of non-whites and misplaced patriotism. Dems aren't just their opponents, they are enemies of the state.

The GOP has the reputation of holding the moral highground, but dems are more above board. Not to say we don't have dishonest dems or dems involved in corruption because we do, but for the most part they still try to get things done for the people. They also have a network of podcasts and conservative sites that live and breath Fox news propaganda. Joy Reid is one of the few folks who will stop someone mid stream and not let them spew talking points on her show. We need more like Avenatti, but he is not a dem surrogate, he is a lawyer trying to make a national name for himself, in the process he may take Trump down or some of the folks around him, but after the Stormy Daniels case is resolved, what reason would he be on tv except as maybe a legal analyst?
