Just watched BLACK PANTHER and.......

II responded poorly

I KNOW it is common knowledge my point is that is precisely why he cannot place all the blame o T'Challa

He PERSONALLY JUST got the case.

let me work homeboy.

"More of the same?" WTF is that fam...

you weren't talking all this mess to my father?!?

You my my RIGHT HAND MAN, I got you NEXT to me. you JUST saw me tell these old fools we gotta do RIGHT by you chill.

Or how about you the fucking prince and can come and go as you motherfucking please. When it WAS NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RUN THE COUNTRY and YOU HAVE THE PANTHER POWERS.
Go handle that for me. YOU NOT DOING NOTHING ELSE.

How about that right hand man? lol
We gone do right by you lol

My gripe with how they did Killmongers philosophy in this movie was they put his quest for liberation on the adversarial side. They couched his messages neatly into how the real Black Panther Party would like to resist and liberate peopls but in this instance on a fantasy level and aligned Killmongers passion for his people with hatred, sub-textually aligning the works of the real black panthers with the same. It kinda irks me that it echoes to young generations that what the BPP did was somehow, “bad”, because of course we dont see what inspired Killmonger we just see his anger, so his POV was limited to the audience. Its interesting how they juxtaposed all this social commentery into this movie.

Also I didn't buy that he was his hot head brash thinking adversary full of hatred and anger once he assumed the kingdom that part was rushed (maybe the 3 hour version has more development for the character here) Killmonger was much to clever and cocky, ruthless but more measured than how they depicted him in the end.

Question to the African bros (Nigerian, Ghanian, Congolese etc), did your parents see the BPP (black panther party) as a crazy Black American hate group and wanted no parts of or associations with? Had this discussion with a Nigerian friend of mine curious your thoughts.

They showed him calculated and measured he wasn't in a rush he just had the shit planned perfectly lol.
His execution was actually flat out perfect.
He was as efficient as it gets when taking over a fucking nation and he's just 1 man.
He came thru. Won the kingdom. Has the border patrol on his side. under military protection. burned the herbs. and has his plants ready for war already.
it took everything they had to stop him...how it should be.

He wasn't an outsider. He was royal blood whether they knew it or not. His uncle left him to DIE out there instead of saving his life. The original sin caused this all. The 2nd sin of not avenging is what sent ol boy that way.
Shit didn't just happen for no reason.

Yeah...you right.

but I blame ALL OF IT on these colonists

but lets go with the bloodline...

as I know you already know

that is the crux of the killmonger character what he specifically represents US the lost children of Africa

they will never (or rather have never) embraced us with open arms

And conversely us them.

the whole debate goes martin vs Malcolm vs Marcus

we cant truly hate Eric

because he is the living embodiment of not only our pain caused by oppression, enslavement disenfranchisement, abuse and brainwashing

but our self inflicted pain

and the pain of losing our home our foundation our history

that is why it is difficult for me to side with Baki...

he is NOT the mirror of Eric

His reasoning is so selfishly emotional to me.

even the MOST loyal to the crown Okeye had to do the RIGHT thing in the end[/QUOTE]

How do we call him selfish he is the only one who ain't doing what they want to do?

He is keeping watch over all of them. He can't leave Wakanda. Cannot. He puts country first. He can't go to UN meetings. He ain't being a spy. He's not anywhere but there keeping shit safe from intruders 24/7 365. And he's the one who's selfish?
Cause he put country first for YEARS and years instead of going and avenging his parent's death on his own??? You don't think he wanted to leave Wakanda and go get Klaw himself and really who could stop him? Did he? NO
and then someone who is from Wakanda brings you the only dead body you've ever cared about? But again even with that he wasn't siding with Erik. He was still on T'Challa side.
lol
Until T'Challa got handled. and then he like his woman were loyal to the throne.

hold on just for the fam who reading this exchange...

All love.
I see all sides. I put myself into his shoes. How long are you willing to wait to avenge your parent's death could you be as disciplined considering all the technology he had access to?
If you actually have the means and you still don't and your right hand man says he will
shit he's been on the que forever probably right?
Or did his parent's not matter to the kingdom????

He did plan but how it came off was like a mad man about to push the nuclear button trope and destroy the whole world.

Why is Antman & The Wasp coming out after Infinity War???
Assist.

Because Marvel had already announced all of their 'Phase 3' movies back in 2014, before they were even 'considering' making any sequel to Ant-Man. To sum it up...
  • The 1st Ant-Man dropped after Age of Ultron, during Summer of 2015.
  • And the movie did so well that they decided to 'make a sequel' before Phase 3 was finished.
  • But Marvel had already moved the original release dates for Thor:Ragnarok, Black Panther & Captain Marvel to make room for Spiderman: Homecoming.... so they DEFINITELY didn't want to move any of the Infinity War release dates also. :smh:
  • The fans would've (literally) 'started a riot'... if Marvel ALSO announced that they were gonna push back The Infinity Wars... just to make room for Ant-Man & Wasp.
So the only time that Ant-Man & Wasp could get released was AFTER the 1st Infinity War movie... because they couldn't release it AFTER the 2nd Infinity War movie if they wanted those 2 characters to appear in the Infinity War storyline, at all.

That's now what it was at all. It was just another example of how black excellence and determination can be the best in the world. Killmonger was smarter than everyone, played everyone, got everywhere he wanted to go with his rage in hand he was never out of control of the situation. He was most surely a mad man it did not take much for you to get dealt with and at the same time it was just all because of a central focus. He wasn't going to destroy the world though see what I mean? This is that white supremacy thinking rearing it's head.
He was literally going to try and SAVE US lol.
His quarrel with his family was 1 thing. His Quarrel with white supremacy was the beast that drove him to the place in the first place. He knew they possessed the weapons needed to overthrow the colonizers just like his father knew.

He felt the pain. You see how they described N'Jobu right? "Ahh he met a woman and fell in love"
When in reality he got out of Wakanda saw the world and saw all the fucking pain people that looked like him were going through and couldn't sit idly by like it didn't exist?
Shit even Nakia was out there because she couldn't just sit idly by and let these things happen to people who look like her remember? The only ones who seemed perfectly fine in their Ivory Tower were T'Chaka and T'Challa right? Funny how the ones who don't have to struggle, are well protected, without a care in the world don't really feel THAT MUCH empathy for people who are dying and look just like them right? And then when you deal with the pain all your life and you make it out and you're angry how do you handle it?

Like there's a place right now that you know would end white supremacy right now. You can get your hands on the exact tools that will stop Trayvon Martin's from happening. Eric Garner's, Sandra Brown's from happening. RIGHT NOW You know for a fact who has the power to stop it and they ARE NOT.

How you feeling Mello?
Diplomatic?

That Killmonger story could've been extended to another movie. I feel like it could have been spaced out more. I know its was long I didn't want it to wrap up so quickly

I just came from seeing the movie and I thought the same thing. This movie could have gone for 3 hours and I wouldn't have been mad at all. Still trying to decide if this is better than Dark Knight. These two are up there and I dont want to fall victim to being in the moment..

I agree with Tariq’s points that Killmongers character was setup for black people to resent him and to see T’Challa in admiration.

Basically we should be nonviolent when seeking justice with white people.

It's a good talking point but not the actual intent in accordance to the director so i feel yall on that interpretation thankfully its not the case.

BP definitely has more heart than dark knight.
Dark knight may be more "polished" visually but that just may be because it doesn't have as much cg and its fx and fight scenes were more grounded.
I guess it's depends on what a person feels is more important.
Dark knight felt a little too long where BP I felt could have been longer. One thing they both have in common is a great "villain"

I completely disagree..

my daughter is under 10 and the only kid in the audience.

and the FIRST thing she asked me to EXPLAIN?

was Killmonger to her...

and in the theater I was in (Harlem)

brothers and sisters got REAL quiet and listened INTENTLY to EVERYTHING Killmonger said

and were BOOING when BP took the colonizer back to Wakanda.

and were SAD Eric died.

tell Tariq to chill.

bullshit. from a writers standpoint Killmonger might be the most relatable villain ever to see the screen.

dont ever listen to this shallow hustlin shit startin motherfucker speak on anything.

he has nothing of value to add to any discourse.

Im hip bills. Im speaking sub-textually and fuck diplomacy thats not my gripe. WE know thats what he was aiming for but how he was made to appear was like a mad man and because he was a antagonist its easy to generalize adversaries with a wide brush. It just wasnt set-up well enough imo for a character that had a lot of gravitas and truth to what he was saying.

We didnt get to see that motivation onscreen that pushed his character. Set-up the visuals of the heart ache of seeing his people oppressed and no help coming, we just hear him explain in anger why he’s doing it. That would’ve set some emotional balance to empathize with his characters ruthlessness to the audience. The only attempt at empathy we get is the flashback with his father when Killmonger becomes the king of death after defeating Tchalla. Thats why I say his pov to the audience was limited. There was so much time taken to eatsblish black panther and his kingdom there wasnt much room left to establish Killmongers motives much after Klau’s exit (which was a nice twist I didnt expect.) Killmongers character just needed more room to be great.

Just came back from seeing it.. haven't seen a lick of this thread, so idk if I'm the first one to say it, but Michael B. Jordan sucked in this. His acting chops are subpar at best. He shouldn't be allowed past made for TV movies on Hallmark channel but I digress.

Outside of that, the movie was excellent.

I'll be back later to check this thread out entirely.

I can't front... I wanted Black Panther to hurry up & get Shuri to save Killmonger's life... at the end. :(

When Killmonger was on the Cliffside (in his final moments) looking at Wakanda in all its glory... :(
In my head, all I was thinking to myself was...

"Look T'Challa... you a smart-ass guy... you make ALL the rules, playa  ... Just figure something out, bruh. Work it out."

"Find a middle-ground where Killmonger don't gotta be in Jail for the rest of his life :smh:... But at the same time.... he can't be wylin' out & trying to 'overthrow your reign' every damn chance he get, either."

"Y'all need a COMPROMISE." "Because Wakanda NEEDS him." "And you KNOW it, Nucca." :hmm:

"Like, let Shuri heal his ass up real quick.... then tell the rest of the Council you putting ole dude on some brand new kind of 'Modified House Arrest' for the next 10 years, for all his recent transgressions against the throne... but make sure Killmonger can still go to the Club & get his groove on  or go out on Dates & get some ass... :D And if he 'act right' for the next Decade, or so.... you agree to eventually let him re-join Regular Wakandan Society .... but like only AFTER he finishes his Probation... and he does some Youth Mentoring, or some shit." :dunno:

"He a SOLDIER. Ride or Die. Meanwhile, your homeboy W'Kabi was ready to sell you up the River, Jack. Watch ya Back."
"Cuz You gonna need like a THOUSAND MORE Killmongers whenever Thanos show up, bruh. Trust."
"Keep that nucca close by." "On Standby".

"You need a decent Wingman. Like Captain America & the Winter Soldier.... so ask Killmonger if he can accept playing that #2 Pippen Role. Knahmean??" "Just ask. One time. Both of y'all need to put all your cards on the table. Now is the moment of TRUTH."

"But if he still 'talking reckless' about how... he won't settle for nuthin' less than #1 Jordan Spot + the WHOLE Franchise + ALL the profits from the whole Arena... and he ain't sharing shit wit nun-o-y'all... THEN you can let him go meet his Dad, in the afterlife"

Just saying. :D

REALLY?!

Strong opinion.

I thought MBJ was solid in his role from the moment in the museum to the end. His character had the best lines in the movie to me.

This is a comicbook movie he may be brought back somehow. T'Challa might have wrapped his body up and put him somewhere. I agree a brother with that amount of force can be an asset.
