Just because this is about men doesn't mean their isn't a call for women to mentor. The problem is that there are already less women in those positions so thus less of them to mentor.
Actually I've seen this done. My former manager beautiful Mexican woman dumb as a rock. When it came time for layoffs they demoted her only to extend her for a bit and the same policies she "supposedly" implemented she had to keep asking how to do the work. She had to travel and we ended up having to set up a conference call to take over the meeting. Our department knew she didn't know anything but then management saw it and are still asking how did that happen. Finally someone said y'all were blinded by her looks.

Now, here's the flip side of the scenario i just created...... If employee agrees to the dinner then isn't the employee indirectly confirming that she's aware of the tit for tat? Now if employee agrees to come to the manager's apartment, house etc after dinner at a restaurant, then isn't the employee directly agreeing to further advances? Regarding MeToo movement, someone above put it best that all these big movements (Black Lives Matter, Feminism, etc.) all are problematic because people start using the hashtag/movement for own personal motives or gains rather than staying true to what it's originally about. Do women have to deal with some bullshit from men? Unfortunately, yes. Do we need men to #MentorHer? Eh, perhaps...but, we just need people to mentor men and women, period.
Women and men, as young people, get strong suggestions from society, media, etc. about what places they best need to occupy, in their personal lives and their professional lives. I wish I had more female professors and mentors in my Science and Math classes to see that as a viable field for me - I'm actually GOOD at Math, but my father had to push me to see that...Imagine if I had met a woman scientist or mathematician early on in life? My whole career trajectory could have been different. Research does show, for black kids, they fare better in classrooms where they see themselves represented in the teaching staff. The same point can be made for women too.

And, I'm not saying children/men/women can't be successful if being taught by someone of the opposite sex or gender. But, research has shown there is a strong correlation between academic performance (depending on how you measure it) and teacher perceptions AND race of teacher. Correlation does not equal causal relationship, though. Representation matters, though - not just to people of the same sex/gender but to others, as well. People need to see themselves represented but also need to see a window into other's lives and representations too. That's how we break down bias.
Well in that case bias will never be broken down anytime soon, we'd have to redo schools as we know them. I think having your parents in your life should be all the representation one needs. I do agree in a prefect world where we can all have someone who looks like us teach us, especially the teaching the things we are into would be great, but I feel like that's reaching. At least from a present stand point.
