Both great bands I loved growing up. Cameo was funkier but the GAP Band could go from funk to laid back in a second!

The Gap Band gets the nod from me based on their NAME alone. They were out for so many years yet few cared or knew why they were called the GAP Band.

Cameo put on a better show and was funky as hell. GAP Band was damn good too. This is a tie for me. Seen them both in recent years. GAP Band plays way more hits. Cameo doesn't play much of their older stuff. Yeah.......a tie for me.

LOL that's because that's all they got to play that you know is their hits. Cameo has so much shit its impossible in even a two hour show.

This thread is joking with me right? First there is a big difference between best and favorite. Best is (supposed to be factual) and favorite is subjective. Best is not even close. Just look at the body of work. You can always say one group had the biggest hit or whatever but consistency matters because Cameo has had hits and has had longevity and amassed a much greater number of work by far. It would be one thing if their work sucked but they have so much and it is really good by anyone's standards. Gap Band can't hold a candle, every Gap "HITS" sound like the last although I like them but who wouldn't, listening to the same song you already like over and over again (Exception "Oops Up Side Your Head" but still like a "Funky Worm" Ohio Players tune). The two slow hits sound exactly alike as well. Cameo, on the other hand, "HITS" sound has morphed over time and was still respectable and didn't sound like other Funk bands. Just like George Clinton style of funk didn't sound like any other. As for non-hits it doesn't matter because many times they are throw away songs (Not all the time but "MANY" times). One song posted on here by GAP that was different sounded like a Stevie Wonder reject. Its ok but a copy of someone else's style. Really this is not worthy of discussion everyone should just know who the "BEST" is. Now favorite is a different issue if we're being honest and so since the thread did say "OR FAVORITE" everyone here is correct in their assertions.

This was harder than I thought it would be. GAP band had some all time classic R&B Jams. Kind of shit you can put on at any house party or BBQ and get people moving, BUT ...

You can't fuck with Cameo's discography. Cat's put out almost one album every year from 1977 - 1988 and most of them had at least 1 or 2 top 10 hits on it. They never really they tried to cross-over to straight R&B either. They were funk and nothing but the funk.

Best of Cameo track listing
  1. "Word Up!" –
  2. "Single Life –
  3. "Candy" –
  4. "Shake Your Pants" –
  5. "Rigor Mortis"
  6. "Attack Me With Your Love"
  7. "Talkin' Out the Side of Your Neck"
  8. "Sparkle" – 4:51 -
  9. "Back and Forth"
  10. "Flirt" – 4:06 -
  11. "She's Strange"
  12. "I Just Want to Be"
  13. "Skin I'm In"
  14. "It's Over"

Cameo, and it ain't close. Used to see Larry Blackmon pushing that red Ferrari in the A when I was a youngin. Thought he was the coolest dude living. Was not many bands better, of course Earth, Wind and Fire were the greatest, only other band I can think of fucking with Cameo in terms of hits is Kool and the Gang.
