Uber is moving in, and the city is trying to lure more tech companies in with tax breaks. That city is about to become just as expensive as SF.

Bring it on. For the most part, I like this new Oakland. Some of the Gentrifiers are annoying but Oakland has more options for dining and entertainment,is much cleaner and safer than it was. I own my property so the improvements are increasing my net worth. I don't like the statistics of our shrinking black population,but the reality is than a large percentage of the black folks leaving are the knuckleheads. Most of my social circle are still here. The few that left mainly moved down South.The biggest wave I'm seeing leaving for the burbs are Section 8 who want larger homes or people with short term thinking who sell their homes for cheaper ones on the burbs.

This. Raleigh and Durham are perfect examples. The worst street in Raleigh (Martin St.) and the worst street in Durham (S. Main St.) been transformed. You now see white women pushing baby strollers down on the sidewalks.

Same shit in Charlotte. There is damn near zero affordable housing left in the city. Since the economy rebounded it's been balls to the wall gentrification. I see most working class folks being priced out in the next 7-10 years unless they own. My neighborhood built another wing about a year ago. Slightly different floorplans, but more or less the same footage and amenities. Man I would have to spend damn near 300k to get the same amount of house I spent a little over 200k for 6 years ago. Charlotte ain't the kind of city where commuting from Concord, Gastonia, Rock Hill etc... Is easy. White folks wants their cities back and if you're still paying rent and it's on the come up, you better buy while it's still somewhat affordable.

It's not the cac's, it's the Asians. And they are coming with cash offers up to 2.5m. Like someone else said, the problem starts with the transition of jobs. I work in SF, and hire young professionals. Often, there are not a lot of black folks who are competively qualified, and when I do find some, we cater heavily to them. But then, after struggling for a year or two with the high cost of living, they bounce. If the city was to somehow subsidize rents or down payments for young minority professionals, you will see a different transition.

I feel ya...the best thing I did was purchase a few years ago while prices were low. It's crazy watching the subsidized housing in certain parts of the city being knocked down, and townhomes/single family homes being built in the same area starting in the 400,000s.

It actually has hubby and I considering moving, and keeping this house as rental property in Charlotte. Did you see the article in the Observer today about North End being the "new" neighborhood? They're about to totally "revitalize" Druid Hills, etc. Brightwalk is an example of that already - off of Statesville Road.

Na, I only get the Sunday paper, but Im not surprised. From the looks of it, any part of the city that was old/cheap they seem to be targeting. I live in Woodbury, right off 485 on Albemarle road. Theyre building a new theater, some restaurants and other entertainment stuff off Rocky River, the have a new hospital going up on the other side of the interstate, and some other big box stores Im sure around this area targeting the areas just outside 485 on this side of the city. The part I liked about it was yeah... You go closer into the city it can get a little hood, but out here shit was quiet. ONce all this is finished traffic is gonna be everywhere.
