I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Theon knew that he couldn't do anything to save Yara right then. He would have been killed and everyone knows that. Theon knows that Yara is a prize for Euron, so he won't kill her soon if at all. I'm thinking he's going to attempt to rescue her at King's Landing. Yara is the only person in the world who has his back.

Let's face it the Sept led buy Shoeless Joe Jerkoff was super fucking annoying. Like a cross between Old School Catholics & Jehovah Witnesses & ISIS. If you're in Kings Landing you like "That Cersi is a fucking nut but she got rid of those Fucking assholes." It's always great when crazy seems to be working for you.
But she is the one that gave him the authority and it backfired on her. What she did is the equivalent to blowing up St. Peters Basilica. If you guys go back to scene where she was crowned, take a look at the faces in the crowd. Not ONE person was smiling. Then go back to scene when Tommen was crowned, he got a standing ovation. Nah, she is despised and going to pay

People said the same about Lost, Galactica, Breaking Bad, The Wire, OZ, and let's not forget about all the classics from the 70's and 80's. I don't think there is such a thing as the best show.
I didn't and I 've seen them all. Who in this thread binged watched Battlestar Galacta recently? When that shit went off the air I moved on.

I see your point for sure. But, if a crazy person is king, that's a stressful situation for you to be in as an advisor to that king. Then, that king gets killed, and the next king thinks that you are valuable. So he wants you on the team. You can't say no. So, you serve. To everyone else, you look like a flip-flopper. Everyone who serves a king (especially a bad one) are going to be under some stress. I understand why Dany did it. But, she should understand that it was Robert who pulled the strings in her case. She's going to have Varys do the exact same thing that he did for her father and Robert. She didn't have to tell him what she would do to him, he already knew. He saw Ned's dad get burnt the f*ck-up by her dad. Self-preservation has to be his motive, because all of the great rulers can be crazy.
Here's another way to look at it.... all of these situations ended differently.... Some good.... Some bad... But at least they all had something in common…
  • Mance Rayder stood tall against Stannis when the chips were down.
  • Rob Stark stood tall against the Lannisters when the chips were down.
  • Jon Snow stood tall against the Wildlings & the White Walker Army.
  • Jamie stood tall against Roose Bolton & rescued Brienne from a bear pit.
  • Dany stood tall against all the Dothraki Khals and all the Slavers in Essos.
  • Ned Stark stood tall in Kings Landing. And accepted his fate for all his mistakes.
  • Tyrion stood tall and demanded a ‘trial by combat’ (Twice!) when the chips were down.
  • But Varys??? Not so much. :dunno: Never. :smh:
Aemon Targaryen said it best... "We all 'do our duty' when there is NO COST to it... Honor comes EASY then... But Sooner or later...in every man's life.. there comes a day when it is NOT easy.... A day when he MUST CHOOSE."

Basically, this speech ALSO means that it is EASY to be just like Varys ... and flip-flop... and pledge your loyalty to 'whoever' sits on the Iron Throne. But it's hard to 'have principles'.

Take Ned Stark, for example.
He told King Robert he didn't want any part of killing Dany. :smh: He stuck to his principles.
That was HARD..... But going along with the plan to kill her (like Varys did).... was EASY.

Dany knows that it was Robert who pulled all the strings & ordered her to be killed...
But Dany doesn't want ANYONE on her team who is 'weak enough' to flip-flop... at the drop of a hat.

That's exactly WHY she did that to Varys last night.
Because it was HIS day.... "to choose". His time had finally come.

And he even said it: "I CHOOSE YOU".

Varys has survived for sooooo long without making a 'real choice' about anything. :dunno:
He never acts 'proactively'.... He just 'reacts' to whatever has already happened.

So I bet that was the VERY FIRST TIME in all those years of sitting in on (countless) 'small council meetings' that Varys ever said some shit like that.... to anybody.

  • Cercei looked similar to Jofferey behind his crossbow when the harpoon damaged Balerion
  • 4 women discussing war strategy and only the half-man has a plan?

you need to rewatch from s1 you completely missed the game

he isn't flip flopping - like Littlefinger - he has been setting up pieces and manipulating shit since +20 years ago on a plan to be exactly where he is now -its not luck, his plan since s1 has been to overthrow the Baratheons and Lannisters
he is still on plan
Varys is at the side of an invading ruler and most of her army is due to his moves made decades ago
not including his recent recruitment of the Tyrells and Martells

and thats just TV - his game is way worse in the books

He was being honest with Danny - but if she goes mad - Varys will be the one that manipulates her downfall

Varys is thorough as fuck - on TV -but in the books he is almost fucking Xanatos like

Game of Thrones Season 8 Could Be Delayed Until 2019, But All Movie-Length
While Game of Thrones Season 8 could still be delayed until 2019, there is also a chance each episode could be feature-length!
game_of_thrones_season_8_final_dany.jpg

NEWSDavid Crow
Jul 3, 2017
In news that is unlikely to surprise any of the Westerosi faithful, Game of Thrones will meet the Many-Faced God of TV Death with season 8... and it will only enjoy six episodes at that.

Casey Bloys, HBO president of programming, confirmed to EW in July 2016 that season 8 will be the final year, as showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had long stated was their intention. And showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed in March 2017 that Game of Thrones season 8 will continue to the letter of that original plan and end the series with six final weekly installments.

“It’s only going to be six episodes for the final season,” Benioff said during a featured speaker at SXSW panel. “From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I’m very happy we’ve kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to.”

But now perhaps the most fearful news yet... Game of Thrones season 8 could potentially not air until 2019. Still, it is not all doom and gloom. Consider the latest bit of intel that suggests every episode could be movie-length.

Latest Game of Thrones Season 8 News
While Den of Geek was unable to attend this year's Con of Thrones, many fans were, and one revealed that in addition to the season 7 finale being 82 minutes (meaning it's the longest episode in the series' history), the entirety of Game of Thrones season 8 could also be feature-length. We are talking about 80 minutes, 90 minutes, or more. It might even make a possible year-delay worthwhile...

Fairfield just said the Season 7 finale of GAME OF THRONES will be 82 mins. Final season they're considering making each ep feature length!

Game of Thrones Season 8 Release Date
While chatting with HBO about the final seasons of Game of Thrones, Entertainment Weekly learned from Casey Bloys that the eighth season might not air until 2019 instead of its expected summer 2018 bow.

When EW asked if a 2019 premiere date is a possibility, Bloys said, "Yeah. They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing."

While this could mean nothing, given that EW is the outlet with nigh exclusive access to Game of Thrones' production in its later years, and that editor James Hibberd brought this question up by himself, it is also probable this is the first rollout of the prospect to get fans adjusted to the idea of a truly long wait for the final episodes. And then they make it official after season 7...

On the upside, we were at the San Diego Comic-Con panel last year where Miguel Sapochnik hinted he’d be back for season 8,and Dan Weiss nodded his head in approval. We wouldn’t be shocked if he directs an unusually high number of the episodes for that season after filming the double whammy of "The Battle of the Bastards" and "The Winds of Winter" in season 6's final two episodes.

yooo if each ep is 90-120 minutes then I'm all for the wait

But that was never his FIRST choice.... Made from the very start.
That is just what he 'ended up' deciding to do... after flip-flopping his loyalty for a few years.

That's the whole point.

He didn't get his nuts chopped off by a Mad Sorcerer on Monday.... then decide to 'Serve the Realm' by Friday. :smh::rolleyes:

He made alot of 'bad decisions' first.
yeah - you really need to rewatch from s1

you need to rewatch from s1 you completely missed the game

he isn't flip flopping - like Littlefinger - he has been setting up pieces and manipulating shit since +20 years ago on a plan to be exactly where he is now -its not luck, his plan since s1 has been to overthrow the Baratheons and Lannisters
he is still on plan
Varys is at the side of an invading ruler and most of her army is due to his moves made decades ago
not including his recent recruitment of the Tyrells and Martells

He was being honest with Danny - but if she goes mad - Varys will be the one that manipulates her downfall

Ok let's see...

Varis has ALWAYS served the Realm and has been setting up pieces for 20+ years..

So the very same pieces he has 'put in play'... he has also worked to completely undermine & kill... in order to stay alive himself.

Don't get me wrong, I like Varys.

But I can also admit that for every 2 steps Varys takes forward... he takes at least 1 step backward at the same time. And he's been seriously LUCKY that all his 'best intentions' & 'carefully planned schemes' have not backfired badly on him, over the years.

How?

Well, if you wanted Dany to be Queen from the get go ... because you think she is the 'best person' for the job... you do not send REAL ASSASSINS to kill her... if you 'serve the realm' and want 'what is best for the people'. :smh:

You send fake assassins.
Or bumbling oafs.
Or you do nothing at all... but tell everyone the opposite.

Dany was almost killed TWICE. Literally.

She was saved by Barriston Selmy from a little girl who gave her a deadly scorpion on a pier.
And she was saved by Jorah Mormon from a wine merchant who tried to poison her.

So Varys almost sabotaged his own plans.

He GOT LUCKY Dany had someone looking out for her, both times.

If they had succeeded in killing her... Varys would probably be groveling at Cersei's feet as we speak, or doing her bidding... just like he was doing for all the other rulers before her.

And btw, if Dany 'started to go mad'.... Varys would be the very first person in her current entourage who would get killed. Trust.

She has no 'love' for Varys. :smh:
He's with her because... he's Tyrion's wingman.

(Regardless if he was actually the person to convince Tyrion's to 'meet her' in the first place.)

Plus she already thinks he's a backstabbing turncoat... compared to EVERYONE ELSE in her posse.

So if shit ever hits the fan... the line to 'get beheaded' starts behind Varys. Not someone else. Please believe.

The conversation with Littlefinger in the first season shows that his decisions are for the realm.
We also as a viewer are privy to information that the characters don't have. Bad decisions are inevitable. Know one knows that Littlefinger is the cause of the all the strife within 7 kingdoms. This not to say that he doesn't care about his own welfare and place within the society, but his goal is to not rule. Now

Wait. Hold up. I'm not saying that he doesn't serve the realm. He does.

All I'm saying is.... serving the realm was never his 'first option'. That's all.

He could've made a decision to start 'serving the realm'... right before season 1 started.

Because it's clear that he was 'serving rulers'... while 'serving himself'.... before 'something' changed his mind.

Before he was ever on the 'small council'... I highly doubt that Varys was 'selling his body' in the dirtiest slums of Kings Landing with the sole intention of.... 'serving the realm' someday. :smh: Not at all.

Personally I think in his early days Varys was more DRIVEN to get revenge against the Sorcerer... than any notion he had of 'serving the realm'. (That came later, imo)

Varys is just like Jorah Mormont.

He was doing his own thing too... until he started to realize he had a 'higher purpose' and fell in love with Dany. And HIS ultimate moment (or epiphany) came in the season 1 finale when Dany came out the flames with 3 dragons... and he bent the knee.

For him, there was 'no going back' to his old life, after that. :smh:
