UConn breaks own NCAA record with 91st straight win

4:01 PM CT

DALLAS -- It seemed more an inevitability than an accomplishment, but it should be recognized as the latter. Connecticut's women's basketball program topped itself Saturday at SMU by winning its NCAA record 91st game in a row.

The Huskies previously held the mark in Division I basketball with 90 consecutive victories from 2008-10. Now it's at 91 straight with no end in sight.

Nobody was on the edge of their seats at Moody Coliseum during UConn's 88-48 win; the Huskies got out to a 21-0 lead and pretty much could have named their winning margin. Katie Lou Samuelson led the way with 28 points for the Huskies.

Napheesa Collier set a career high in rebounds with 16, and added 19 points. Gabby Williams had 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for UConn (16-0).

The Mustangs didn't score their first points until a layup by Alicia Froling at the 2:04 mark of the first quarter. It was 26-2 after one period, with the Mustangs making just 1-of-17 shots from the field. The score was 44-18 at halftime, with SMU making 6-of-18 shots to improve their overall shooting to 20 percent.

Once the Huskies got past Maryland on Dec. 29 -- their last major obstacle before hitting 91 -- there was a countdown to this game against the Mustangs. UConn has not lost a game to a league foe since the American Athletic Conference was formed in 2013-14, and it's hard to see that happening anytime soon. Their streak against American opponents, counting regular-season and conference tournament games, is 67.

In that sense, the Huskies have somewhat of a precedent that is familiar in this part of the country: Texas once won 183 consecutive games against schools in the old Southwest Conference (1978-90), although women's sports weren't formerly recognized as part of that league until 1982-83.

But UConn was just competing with itself in regard to the overall winning streak. The Maya Moore-led Huskies were stopped at 90 back on Dec. 30, 2010, at Stanford. UConn has one more nonconference game left, Feb. 13 on Big Monday (ESPN2) as the Huskies host South Carolina. That will be for their 100th consecutive victory, barring a monumental (to put it mildly) upset between now and then.

The Huskies have a chance at going into the NCAA tournament -- which they've won 11 times, including the past four years in a row -- on a 107-game winning streak. And the season could -- and likely will -- end for UConn right back here in Dallas, about 5 miles away at American Airlines Center, home to the Women's Final Four.

"ALL WE DO IS WIN!"

but the question IS...
who you want in the post - :fucking:

UConn Women On Verge Of 100 Wins; Now That's Significant!

As the UConn women's basketball team approaches its 100th consecutive victory on Monday against South Carolina, we are reminded again what a momentous milestone it is.

In society, the number 100 holds special significance in a variety of ways. Here are a few of them.

Give 100 percent: This is the ultimate battle cry from coaches, teachers, parents and employers, designed to encourage maximum effort. And if it's possible to muster more energy, giving 110 percent would be even more appreciated.

100 test score: Here is the ultimate goal for every student, usually the product of giving 100 percent when it comes to studying.

MLB season. While there have been 23 seasons with two or more 100-win teams, only five seasons have seen three teams win at least 100 in the same season. The 2001Seattle Mariners (116) own the record for most victories in one season.

100 losses (baseball): Over the course of the same 125 seasons, only 145 teams have lost 100 or more games in one season, the latest being the 2016 Minnesota Twins (103). The 1962 New York Mets lost 120 games. The 1899 Cleveland Spiders hit the deck 134 times.

100-point victory total: The Baylor women's basketball team set an NCAA record on Dec. 15, 2016 by beating Winthrop, 140-32. The 108-point margin of victory is the largest ever in NCAA women's basketball. The previous record was 102 points by Grambling in 1986. The biggest margin of victory in men's Division I history is believed to be Long Island University's 179-62 win (117 points) over Medgar Evers College on Nov. 26, 1997. Medgar Evers had 60 turnovers.

NBA player to score 100 points in a game. He did it for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962. Chamberlain was 36-for-63 from the field and 28-for-32 from the free throw line. But it has happened many times overseas. A guy named Erman Kunter scored 153 points for Fenerbahce Istanbul in a 175-99 win over Hilalspor Izmir. He scored 92 in the second half. And Jack Taylor, who played for Grinnell College, holds the NCAA record for most points, scoring 138 in 2012. He also scored the NCAA's third-highest total of 109 in 2013.

100-point games (in high school football):According to the website luckyshow.org, there have been 67 games in which a team has scored more than 100 points since 1932. In the 20 years before 1932, there were 525 in which a team scored more than 100 points, including six where a team scored more than 200 points. The first 100-point game is believed to have occurred in 1894 in Minnesota. The highlight might have been a 105-0 win by Hyde Park of Chicago over Poly Prep of Brooklyn, N.Y., in the national high school championship game at Marshall Fieldin Chicago in 1902. The greatest day for 100-point games was Oct. 26, 1912. Five games in four states hit the century mark.

100-point games (for Yale football): The Bulldogs surpassed the century mark four times between 1884 and 1890. Three of those games were against Wesleyan, which we imagine is still sore about it.

100th anniversary: Always a nice round figure to celebrate and commemorate events. Of course, if you were around when the event initially happened, the chances are not good for you to share in the celebratory cake. Boeing and the National Park Service celebrated this anniversary in 2016, which was also the 100th year since the completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

NASDAQ 100: It's a stock market index made up of 107 equity securities issued by 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the NASDAQ exchange.

The Pop 100: This was a song chart that debuted in February 2005 and was released weekly by Billboard Magazine in the United States until its discontinuation in 2009. It ranked songs based on airplay on radio stations, single sales and digital downloads.

Top 100 lists: This is the most convenient way for trivia experts to compile collections of notable things, people, places or issues - as in Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People or the NHL's list of its top 100 players. Let's face it, if something is not on a list of top 100 it's likely not worth remembering, anyway.

is this good for female b-ball tho...?

Yea other schools still do good, it would be different if they played every single team and waxed them yearly...

They don't play everybody, GA don't get every single great player each year, he has to do some coaching.

talk about competitive imbalance. its amazing, yet boring at the same time. No other team has even a SLIGHT chance to win a championship in womens basketball

Great but don't nobody watch women's basketball, especially college. Shit men's college hoops sucks bad enough, let alone watching bitches. I'd rather watch two sea turtles race to the ocean.

I don't believe anyone actually think Women's college basketball is good. Important? Sure. But not good.

geno fucked that up...

why would he not tell his players hold for a last shot so the worst that could happen is double ot...

n this fucker smiling at the end like he relieved the streak is over....

:dance::dance::dance:

that call was some bullshit, didn't look intentional should have been one shot instead of two if anything, Doris was mad as hell you can tell who she was rooting for.

he probably did tell them to hold it, but the player just got anxious and probably wanted to make a game winning play by herself without caring about the game clock.

Yep her and that Lawson chick

I wouldn't be surprised if the game with fixed and UConn was payed to lose. It just was odd that when UConn got the ball and they didn't run the clock down and then get the last shot. Something was fishy about that play.

Geno Aurriema sound sad than a mutherfucca during that interview with Holly Rowe :eek2:

Man that was 1 hella game Dak Prescott was wilding on the stands those Mississippi women showed HEART
