HBO:The Night of..Official Discussion Thread

My thing is with all that blood in the room of the chick, why was't Naz's clothes or body not covered of with blood. Shit. He would have had to take a shower to wash that blood off of him. And then fully bleach the bathroom to get rid of the blood. Why is none in the tub. Her blood should have saturated the murder weapon and fully covered the hand and arm that was used. If you put spaghetti sauce in a blender without a top and turn it on without a cap it would get on you just as much as the wall. I may be off base, but that stood out to me.

I competley forgot about this angle, my mother made the same argument when we discussed this. That was a key piece to me, his clothes weren't soaked

there was no blood on his inhaler. it was like it was planted. i thought the lawyer would of brought it up.

Anybody noticed how this show is a come up for black actresses. Almost every cop, guard,C.O. is a black female:bravo::bravo::bravo:

I wouldn't call it a come up. Each had a bitchy attitude, especially that cop.

white chick dead
Naz life ruined and now he a fiend
his own mom has doubt about his innoncene
his family lost everything and are paras in the community
Naz brother got kicked of school
the young attorney got fired, got played by Naz and may lose her liscene
Bos is back to where he started
and now the cops are after the real killers but he proably has paper for a good lawyer and not the slap dunk Naz was

This. Shit was a tragedy basically. You have a couple of terms I'll be adding to the BGOL dictionary, but otherwise I'll leave you alone. :D

He hosed off nude in an alley way
not feasible for that hood and the timeline would invalidate it - along with the fact his hair would have still been wet when he got pulled over...
remember forensics was half assed so there is not enough evidence - they didn't show anyone taking samples from the drain and they completely missed the table, but they should have argued or asked in someones cross

One of the best cinematic closing arguments ever. Stone kept it 100, he didn't sugarcoat shit. Stone has a soft side and a straight up ruthless streak at the same damn time. The Indian lawyer chick respected his gangster even though he pushed her in front of an oncoming train. Lol, the jury Foreman was a "G", he shut the judge down. Freddie is an old school cat, no overt sentiment, just slid Naz a parting gift and kept it moving.

Naz got a lot of nerve getting mad at his old earth. Everybody in your family sacrificed like crazy for your fuck up. You even get on the stand and testify that you "don't know" if you killed her. Cut your moms some slack for having her doubts. Graciously accept her at face value when she says she never believed you did it.

I understand what you mean by taking your moms at face value. However we're talking about a dude who learned how to deal with his emotions according to rulers island law. " I love you" " whatever ". Everything is nochalant with a fuck you on top. Think about how Freddie dealt with the female c.o. He was fucking and having bring in his dope. After busting a nut, she told him she can smuggle drugs for him any more. The c.o then said if you want, you don't have to pay my rent any more. Freddie gave her that same nochalant look and said "take me back to my cell " if I was naz, I would of kept my feelings to myself and fronted to moms like I knew she rode for me. Tragic situation. His pop was unwavering in the whole show. Even in the face of being pushed out of their business, he held naz down.

This show was about the gritty harsh truth of American jurisprudence, loved it.

In many law schools they ask new law students about what they think "justice" means?

While there is no universally accepted definition, the most common answers invoke "fairness" and "equality", nothing about truthfulness or the correct result.

You may feel that the state's attorney's actions were fucked up for not dropping the case against Naz after the real killer was identified, because that was the "right" or "moral" thing to do. However the "system" demands that Naz has the same opportunities to present evidence that the prosecution didn't meet its burden as the prosecution had to establish that it did and that he was the killer.

That's "fairness" they say..

And that's the issue with the system at times, it's not about justice.

She would've let Naz rot for rest of his life in prison knowing he was innocent just for the victory had the jury not deadlocked.

Happy this show was one of the better written TV shows, very intelligently executed. And for those on the theory of the UK show, am sure they were thinking it was Bodie boy, but in actuality wasn't.

There's already talks of a 2nd season, but like I said about American Crime, may be some of the same characters but a different story altogether.

And just wanted to add a side note, how the hell could Naz get that baggie from that sweet lawyer pussy and not even lick the bag first. He just shoved it up his shit. I was like nooooo, lol.

Did you peep the moisture when she put the bag from her pussy on the bench?

I saw that. I was drunk as shit last night when I saw it but I remember that. I need that actress' IG or something. I have to confess my love to her.

I agree with all of this, but I think there's hope for the family once the financial advisor is arrested for the murder. The only way they remain social pariahs is if the media does what they always do for cacs and not report the story or front page it when the financial advisor gets arrested

the lawyer pulling pills out the pussy got me lusting for the actress even more

Shit was mad good. I want to suck the sweat and pussy juice out that Indian lawyer .

I would a had to have licked the baggie first and tell her how I was going to tear the pussy up once I got out. I'm in lust with this bitch.

Man ain't that the truth The American justice system sucks balls.
Great series HBO is like the Marvel of Drama.
I only wish Naz wouldn't have gotten off would have made for a more realistic ending.
Cuz this type of thing happens to brothers in the system daily.

Prosecutor lol.
Like ok cool he's the guy but we've got more of nothing on the kid.
They never had anything.
Lawyer is a fucking idiot threw her career away for nothing.
The dad is the one who I'm happiest for. He never gave up.
Nas knows that and appreciated it.
Stone turned a corner and did his thing at the price of it

Stone's closing sealed the deal for the mistrial and undid the damage done from the State's cross of Naz.

Jurors are everyday people, all the complicated legalese doesn't resonant with most folks.

Simply convey your position in the most humane way.

The Indian lawyer had all the legal knowledge but lacked the ability to connect to people. Stone is a guy with rashes and a cheap suit but damnit you felt his words.

Here's this kid who went into Rykers and look what he had to do to survive all because the State didn't exercise due diligence and investigate another person. You jurors have the chance to fix a wrong.

Absolutely killed it.
I was cracking up with his invisible man gloves on though
The kid lawyer thought she was hot shit. Got her 1st case got it to trial she did the shit he said don't do. She even scored fucking drugs. She's LUCKY they didn't send that tape in otherwise she'd be in jail and Nas would have to come and see her and visit her.

I knew it was coming
I'm just mad at the prosecutor though they should do quality control cases. Ones that seem real and see if people actually care about the right thing.

(I'm soo jaded and cynical - I really laughed when I read this)
Its so rare to work with anyone interested in doing "the right thing"- shit, I have a better chance of getting hit by lightning -while in my basement...
In my 25 years of working across 3 industries- all I've seen are people interested in passing the buck and band-aide remedies and cover ups, never root cause or any chance at improving / correcting entrenched systems.

I said that knowing full and well there's no shot in hell of it ever happening on this earth.

That's OK though.

Until you're in the system fighting for your life

dude - its never ok -
I wish I understood that systems aren't to be fixed or improved when I was younger...
IME you can only manipulate them via gaps and weak points or for the few with power and resources, break them out right

I try my best to stay away from games that are rigged against me - I'm not interested in playing Lotto with my life...
Its better to throw money at the issue or away than to lose time or have it taken away -
one of the best things I read or was told was to keep the number of a criminal lawyer or firm in my wallet

The biggest take away from this show was how much it changed lives. Especially, Nasir's. Had he gotten bail he would not be a druggy now.

The Indian lawyer... Gyawd damn! I want her in my bedroom looking exactly how she did in court. Hair in a bun and wearing that business skirt. She looks like the type that needs the freak fucked out of her in the worse way. Which explains why she did what she did.

Stone was the unsong hero. Say what you want be he knows his shit.

Cop and prosecutor catching consciences. Now we see how they will continue the story.

Side note:
Bodie had me dying laughing when he was on the stand.
Damn cat truly has nine lives.
During the conclusion of the trial loved how there was little dialogue but the camera captured everyone's facial expression.

Wouldn't mind seeing a second season.... Could be a totally new city and no returning cast, but I think Stone/turturo getting another big case would also be cool.

As an aside, I have a cape on order from Amazon for Naz's female lawyer. She can come live with me while she waits out the state bar investigation.
