MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Central Intelligence

It's the chemistry between Kevin Hart & Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that raises my rating for Central Intelligence
The two play well together as the characters have a mutual respect and fondness for each other, but it's also
the uneasy, clingy, uncomfortableness that adds to the humor in any of the scenes they share together.

The story of C.I.A turncoats and double crossers is wonky here and there, plus a plot twist is extremely
predictable.CI begins to go down the same path as other buddie comedies, but there is still a lot of fun to be had
in between with some genuine laugh out loud moments.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Thank goodness the talents and humor behind such memorable songs like D**k In a Box and
Lazy Sunday shine through for the most part in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
In Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Andy Samberg goes all out as Connor4Real
former boy band member now solo star in this funny mocumentary.Filled with a who's who in music
and sight gags galore.By the time the film enters it's last 20 minutes it begins to run out of gas
Not a perfect movie by any means but definitely worth a look on DVD.

Independence Day: Resurgence

When Independence Day hit theatres in 1996 i told people it was a fun sci fi flick with heart .It's sequel Independence Day: Resurgence
not so much. What i did like about IDR was that the alien tech from the first film has been used to advance Earth's tech ,creating all kinds of cool
ships, and bases on earth and the moon..There's some great SFX and CGI in the film A couple of interesting characters are introduced.
Jeff Goldblum,Bill Pullman and Brent Spiner fortunately return to lend their much needed talents to the film.

The other characters are dry and stiff and their acting skills match the aforementioned. The screenplay is pretty bad with clunky lines, that
are delivered lifelessly. At times i felt like i was watching one of those terrible Sci Fi Channel movies.
There is never any since of peril in the movie, and when some characters bite the dust all i could do was laugh.
If you liked the first flick and must see this wait for the DVD.

The Shallows

Blake Lively impressively holds her own in the thriller The Shallows .This is a highly entertaining film that provides some edge of your seat entertainment
as woman takes on shark.
There are some hokey moments and as the shark menaces her in various ways i thought maybe one of those "brain" sharks had actually escaped
from the movie Deep Blue Sea.
The Shallows is beautifully shot and definitely worth seeing on the big screen

Nowhereland

J.HAID_F.RYAN.png

Born into the seedy, underground world of prostitution, 15-year-old Shara has known no other life. Her mother is an aging, career escort, who is now looking to Shara to make the kind of money she made in her youth. After a dramatic encounter with her mom's ex-boyfriend, Shara finds herself alone on the streets of Los Angeles.

Some good performances in this (at times disturbing)movie,as well as a surprising one by Emily Cheree(formerly known as pornstar Tinslee Reagan..when you read up on her backstory, you'll see why she signed on for a part)

Free State of Jones

I praise director Gary Ross for his ambition and strong story telling in
Free State of Jones this is a film that is consistently well acted and high praise to
Matthew McConaughey, Mahershala Ali and Gugu Mbatha-Raw
In his ambition though Ross has the film jump around and attempt to be a little bit of everything providing so much
information the film starts to feel very drawn out and i definitely saw where the film could have been tightened up
FSOJ is still and involving and moving film.
With so much information the film provides i wonder how much more will be on the DVD

Scale of 1-10 an 8

The Legend of Tarzan

I always thought it was interesting when Tarzan discovered his true birth right and returned to the home of his parent's.
So that part of The Legend of Tarzan really appealed to me.
There is a tremendous amount of chemistry between Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan (a.k.a. John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke)
Margot Robbie as Jane
The movie is beautifully shot and there are some incredible action sequences,to watch Tarzan soar through the jungle with his
ape "brothers" made me feel like a kid again.
Samuel L. Jackson provides several humorous moments.Christoph Waltz, is definitely being type cast as the villain in all of
his latest roles, with familiar tricks and mannerisms.
The films flaws are some uneven turns in the story and the CGI in the films last 20 minutes is so bad it really took me out of the movie
If a rush job is going to be done on the CGI because of possible budget reasons,at least pull back on the CGI character so he,she or it
doesnt look completely animated.
TLOT is a lot of fun though and a sleek big screen adventure

Marauders

Geez what a gradual dissapointment this movie is. It starts with thunderous music and an intense bank robbery and robbers using some cool
tech and wearing some of the greatest masks ever. Bruce Willis's character is introduced and Christopher Meloni enters as an FBI agent and im thinking this is
going to be a good heist movie with some great twists
Oh did they have me fooled by that first 30 minutes !!!!!!!!!
I began to realize it is and was just a repetitive mess that makes no sense .Im still not sure why certain characters did certain things in the film
Wait for cable and see if you zone out after the first 30 minutes like i did

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Zac Efron,Adam Devine,Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza have such great chemistry in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
i can almost get past any faults the movie has.
In the movie the parents of
Dave (Zac Efron) and Mike Stangle (Adam Devine) attempt to reign in their usual crazy antics
at every family function that causes some type of small disaster.Thinking if the brother's can get respectable ladies to attend the next
big event which is their sister's wedding they will be nice and calm.
Unfortunately the brothers are duped by Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) who just want a free trip to Hawaii and are anything
but who they claim to be

As i aforementioned the chemistry between the quartet is off the charts couple this with some great sequences in which the brother's
interview potential dates, and a funny as hell cab ride with the ladies and the film has some really great laugh out loud moments.
Sight gags are also a big factor with a standout being a completely over the top massage

There are some stiff and stalling moments and the film starts to run out of gas in it's last 20 minutes, but i still thouroughly enjoyed this raunchy
comedy

Our Kind of Traitor

Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris play husband and wife Perry and Gail, vacationing in Morocco trying to fix their marriage which has hit the skids
in Our Kind of Traitor. At a restaurant Dima (Stellan Skarsgard ), a boisterous Russian mobster enters their lives.Perry falls under his larger than life spell
and they become fast friends.Soon Gail joins in and becomes attached to his family. They soon learn this friendship comes with a price as Dima wants to avenge a friends murder
so he wants
Perry to take info on money launderers and crooked politicians back to the U.K where he will defect to along with his family, as long as MI6 agrees to all of this
and the info he provides is worthy of his demands

Skarsgard definitely steals this movie and is a standout with his salty language and overall im not such a bad guy persona, who basically wants to keep his family
safe.
The story is always interesting and there are some interesting edge of your seat moments

There were some scenes that were rather pointless, forced and beyond predictable especially as the film begins to wrap things up
This was still and enjoyable little thriller

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Purge: Election Year

Everything i heard about this movie was correct .
Mykelti Williamson steals the movie and has the best one liners. The crazy ghetto school girls are obnoxious and beyond terrible actresses, nice figures though.
None of the action really stood out to me but i did laugh as some of the bad guys were taken out in various ways, the rest is just predictable stuff A good rental
on a slow Saturday

Good movie. Had a chance to see it this past Thursday. Well-acted by the young cast ... unique camera work with some of the angles & distance shots. I don't know the technical terms in cinema ... but they had some neat shots wherein they would make hallways and rooms look larger than they actually were. Long lens / fish-eye lens? I don't know. Good shit though. Effective, minimal score/soundtrack too.

THE WAVE

I cant recall the last time i actually cared about the characters in a disaster film. The Wave is produced so well and fleshes out
the characters in such a way that it actually pushed me to the edge of my seat when they're in peril.
The film takes whatever was good about the movie Dante's Peak and what was involving and moving about the movie The Impossible
and crafts them into a very good film.
The cinemaphotagraphy is absolutely stunning,it made me say wow that's beautiful several times.
There are a couple of hokey moments but it didnt take away from my enjoyment of this film.

Scale of 1-10 a 9

THE INFILTRATOR

There is something about an undercover film or T.V show that always appeals to me.There is the factor of just saying the wrong thing,or your real life
overlapping into your undercover persona that can blow everything and the person can even end up dead or wishing they were
The Infiltrator displays this several times to a T.
It's brilliantly acted by a great cast that includes :Bryan Cranston, Diane Kruger, John Leguizamo and Benjamin Bratt.
The film has a nice gritty edge to it,coupled with some suspenceful moments.
There are some forced moments and the film sometimes has that limited T.V movie feel, but it doesnt stop it from being one of the most interesting
and involving films about U.S. Customs and international drug-money laundering.

GHOSTBUSTERS

Like i said last week there was no way in the world i was going to pay to see this movie, even though a free ticket was waved in front of my face i still had to be dragged
to the theatre .So glad i saw it for free, not saying that this fick is the putrid waste of time i thought it was going to be,but it's not that good either.
Ok the first half hour worked for me ,the characters were introduced well i bought into the history and friendship of Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.
I laughed ,i was having fun
Then all of the cringe worthy moments started happening
Now Chris Hemsworth's relentlessly brainless character was funny but after awhile it wears thin, and i swear there were scenes in which he's just walking around
with nothing to do.Kate McKinnon: people are raving about her and yes her quirks were funny for a minute here and there and i guess she was trying to channel Jim Carrey
or something but after awhile i didnt care
Leslie Jones was basically what you see in the trailer she has one funny scene.
There was one scene in the movie that perfectly combined scary with funny and this movie desperately needed more of them.
The cameos from the original cast made me groan One cameo actually made me think well that's the route they should have taken with all of these new characters.
Why not have the original Ghosbuster's hand over the reigns to family members and college students that showed great interest to what occured in the first 2 films?
The villain in this film was beyond lame and boring He was like one of the lame villains from a bad animated movie.
All of the male characters are either idiots, sexist,or cowards.
I did like some of the CGI,SFX and action in the in the films finale
As a whole i see this movie as a HUGE missed oppurtunity so much more could have been done to make it at least very good
Wait for cable or the DVD release.

ok - if you are serious about this opinion - I'll watch the movie on PPV in a few months

Yes. It was the stuff of legend. Instantaneous classic. Pure fire. All heat. Laughs in abudance. Special effects & CGI on some next level shit.

I don't have a clue. I stay 100% bullshitting like crazy. I miss the original 2 movies from back around 1984 & 1989.

Star Trek Beyond

Much like 1994's Star Trek : Generations Star Trek Beyond focuses on the passing of time, where one belongs in life, and where a person
can make the most difference in life Star Trek Beyond takes the aforementioned and mixes in a wee bit of Star Trek The Undiscovered
Country.
The cast does a spectacular job with their different portrayals of the well known characters that have now been arounf for 50 years.
Almost 3 years into their 5 year mission the crew of the starship Enterprise have grown together and bonded in various ways ,with some tension,
and chafing mixed in.
The character and introduction of Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) is refreshing, welcome and extremely likeable.I really enjoyed her interactions
with the rest of the cast.
Im so glad writers Simon Pegg & Doug Jung didnt make the villain in the film Krall (Idris Elb) a one note character ,though the film takes it's
time to fully flesh him out.
The flaws in the film can be found in a couple of plot holes, and the CGI and SFX look a bit choppy at times .
Other than that this was a highly entertaining and humorous adventure, with small doses of classic Star Trek.

BAD MOMS

It's not easy being a working parent.Making breakfast and lunch for the kids, getting them to school on time, making it to work on time, dealing with an oblivious boss, taking the kids to after school activities and trying to maintain a relationship with a spouse.
This is brought out ways that are often hilarious in BAD MOMS
Mila Kunis is terrific in the movie and is joined by Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell who comiserate with her and join her in her stand against trying to get everything perfectly right as a mom.
She chafes against Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate perfectly cold !)head of the PTA and a cross between a Stepford Wife and Tracy Flick
There's alot of raunchy fun to be had and plenty of laugh out loud moments
Some characters are extremely underwritten and are only given one liners here and there. There's also a romance that is semi forced.
Plus the film has about 3 endings.Other than that i had a good time with this one

Stick around during the credits

Jason Bourne

Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne and Bourne is taken from his bare knuckle fighting to back to trying to infiltrate the CIA after he is informed
by his one time CIA contact Nicky Parsons portrayed by the lovely Julia Stiles that a lot of his background is still unknown and that the CIA are up to their old tricks.
All of the actors including: Tommy Lee Jones,Alicia Vikander , Vincent Cassel and Riz Ahmed(if your not watching him on HBO's The Night Of you are
missing out!!)
The story mainly has a been there done that feel, and it's interwoven with a side story about Social Media, privacy and the CIA's involvement
that kind of bored me.Fortunately several action sequences are provided that are quite exhilarating The standout is a demolition derby car chase on the Las Vegas strip.
So this isnt a great JB film but it has it's moments, and it was great to see Damon back as Bourne

Scale of 1-10 7½

NERVE

In this era of crazy stunt sites and videos featuring crazy stunts on Youtube being posted on an almost daily basis
the idea of a an online do a crazy dare for cash game is not far fetched, and that's what made the trailer for this movie appealing plus i though it would be a fast paced flick coupled with great music
There are a lot of fun moments as the characters Vee (Emma Roberts) and Ian (Dave Franco) team up to do stunts and at the behest of those that run the NERVE site. There are some stand out edge of your seat moments and i also enjoyed Emily Meade as Vee's friend and fellow NERVE player
The second half...... well the film's pace definitely slows down big time and plot holes pop up and it becomes very predictable leading to a clunky lackluster ending.
So some fun but nothing to run to the theatre to see Wait for the DVD

SUICIDE SQUAD

So has DC & WB finally hit a home run when it comes to making a comic book based film? Well they make it to third base.
Im not sure what critics were looking for when they blasted this movie. For the most part i found the film to be fun, humorous
and so many things really worked.
Viola Davis was great as the unflinching no nonsense Amanda Waller. Will Smith gave a great and charismatic performance as Deadshot.
Margot Robbie did an amazing job as Harley Quinn. She and Smith definitley carry over the chemistry they had in the movie Focus.
Jay Hernandez turned in a moving performance as El Diablo.Jai Courtney did well as Captain Bommerang,he usually ends up portraying meathead drones. The character of Dr. June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevigne) was interesting at the beginning of the film
Any scene that Batman was in was great.
I cant really judge Jared Leto's performance as The Joker because he was in and out of the film and it wasnt a full performance,he did have great chemistry with Robbie though.
People were complaining about the various songs that kept popping up in the movie, saying it was annoying, but the only thing i found annoying were the people in the theatre trying to sing along with the songs!!

What didnt work for me some characters were definitely side lined. One of the romances was definitely forced.Sometimes the movie was over stylish.Last but not least the villain and the climax. The villain was so odd sounding and visually laughable it took me out of the film.In the latest
comic book and sci fi films the endings have been so similair .I mean can someone come up with an original idea on how to close these films?

SS is not a disaster by any means ,it has it's flaws.I liked the cast and i hope another SS film hits the big screen

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

BATMAN: The Killing Joke

One of the most over hyped animated films ever.I feel bad for anyone that payed over 20 bucks to watch this adaptation of Alan Moore's
1988 graphic novel
What's good about it the voice work by Kevin Conroy(Batman) and Mark Hamill (The Joker)
When the film sticks to the source material it's fun to watch it playout. The tacked on story was ok at first but then there were some odd turns that didnt work for me and i wondered why they decided to take certain characters down these weird paths that made no sense
The pacing was so off i almost hit the fast forward button at least 4 times

large_MV5BMTU5NTcyMzI3NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMTU3OTI0NDE_._V1__SX1216_SY712_.jpg

A self-obsessed young man makes his way to "the party-to-end-all-parties" on the last day on Earth, but ends up saving the life of a little girl searching for her father. Their relationship ultimately leads him on the path to redemption.

Another of those "preparing for the end of the world" movies(in the vein of Last Night and Seeking a Friend For The End Of The World)..good performances from the actors involved, including Angourie Rice(who can also be seen in the Gosling/Crowe film The Nice Guys)

Captain America: Civil War

One of the strongest themes in Comic Book films as of late is that there are consequences for the actions of the hero, sometimes
tragedy is connected to a heroic moment, and that there are casualties whena a hero and villain rumble in a highly populated
city or country.
So what if the government wanted to reign in the hero's because of the aforementioned?

So much praise should be heaped upon the Russo brothers and writers Christopher Marku and Stephen McFeely
Not only providing and developing a sequel to Captain America: Winter Soldier but also an Avengers movie, with a strong story about
friendship,responsibility,loss and revenge

The action sequences are choreographed to a T.There is so much on screen to not only satisfy the fanboys, but also the most casual Marvel fan
If thats's not enough, the film has one of the best big screen introductions to Spider-Man well played by Tom Holland
They also get everything right about Black Planther his strengths as a leader and hero are brought out in the script and strong performance from

Chadwick_Boseman.Im really looking forward to his solo film and the characters that will inhabit it.
All of the actors portraying the characters do a fine job

Some scenes felt a little drawn out and repetitive but the fact that the film has so much on it's plate to take in and that it actually goes down so well and
plays so strongly is a movie miracle

A Bigger Splash

A couples get away from it all restful vacation is completely turned around by the woman's former manager/lover and his seductive daughter.
Ralph Fiennes portrays the former manager Harry who doesnt have an off switch .He's imposing, crass, loud ,and intruding.
His former flame and popular singer Marianne (Tilda Swiinton) semi welcomes his intrusion, while her new lover
Paul (Matthias Schoenaerts) chafes at Harry's personality and Harry's daughter Penelope (Dakota Johnson) frolics around with a
casual smile and seductive glance.
Of course all types of alterior motives arise.
This is a good tale of broken friendships and relationships.Seduction by something new and something familiar.I loved how the film plays with the complications of communication

All well played by each actor. A Bigger splash is at it's best when it focuses on the four main characters,it's a bit drawn out and meanders here and there
but it's still one of the best films of the Summer movie season so far.

We Are Your Friends

Every actor in this film collects an easy paycheck
This is one of the most lightweight films i have ever watched .I didnt connect to any of the characters or even their plights but

Just a cool way to kill about 90 minutes

You give well worded reviews..

Im peepin the bigger splash movie now,

I just love tropical back drops especially when Im stuck in new york for a good year and a half before my next excursion...

but why dudes wife look like david bowie tho...??

but them natural swimming pools look crazy..

I need to put Sicily on my map of places to go...

I watched the unrated version of Straight out of Compton on HBO onDemand...

More nudity - more humor - more character development for Easy and Dre - more fleshed out relationships for Easy and Heller - and Easy and Dre - a bit more on how much of a devil the exec at Priority Records was... longer concert performances...

IMO - its a much better movie - which is amazing since I love the theatrical cut

A Hologram for the King

Im so glad i rented this movie because it charmed the hell out of me !! Tom Hanks gives a great performance as a business man
trying to sell a hologram contract to the king of Saudi Arabia, who wants to build a city in the middle of the desert that will populate
1.5 million people by 2025
Divorce, trying to pay his daughter's college tuition and health problems have worn him down. But he slowly steps back from
it all and looks at the life and lives around him that start to uplift him
Some minor annoyances around the edges but
I loved how the film gives everything ample time, the business ,humorous and romantic sides all equal out evenly.
It's never to late to start over and start living

This is the main question in this extremely funny and raunchy comedy. From political jokes and sexual innuendo to
the 100th power and even a character that i thought was going to be annoying and then some but actually
turns out to be quite hilarious everything in the film is done to a T for the most part
There are some slow and drawn out moments but this hard R toon redeems itself with the ultimate CLIMAX !!!!!!!
