NBA Offseason 2016 - FreeAgency money dried up...Waiters gets $2.6 after OKC pulled $6+ offer...

but you GOTTA give LeBron even MORE credit now in hindsight...

he actually tried to tell Riley and Arison about the cap bump YEARS in advance (like he tried to tell Melo and them)

looking back?

when Bron left and Riley had to over pay Bosh to keep him out of Dallas...

If Bron had STAYED even with a SICK Bosh they could have really made those numbers work ESPECIALLY since Bron and Wade were aways willing to take less.

Right you can tell me you'll pay the tax for a championship team but cut cost first chance you got.

Right dude know and understood the business side of the NBA money. I think he wanted to become president of the players union. Seem like he super tight with James Jones, who holds a position also.

He's backload...

Breakdown of Al Horford's 4-year deal:
2016-17: $26,540,100
2017-18: $27,734,405
2018-19: $28,928,709
2019-20: $30,123,014 (player option)

Did the league ban those "poison pill" deals? that the Houston GM was using like when he got Lin away from the Knicks?

why doesnt anyone want to take Mark Cuban's money?
  • he is a good owner who wants to win.
  • treats his players very well and has some of the best facilities in the NBA
  • a great coach who gets the best out of his players
  • no state taxes in Dallas
is still fucked Karma for breaking up the championship team?

Couple reasons and I'll touch on your points loosely

While he is good owner who wants to win and treats his players well once they get here he can be annoying if you don't like his douchebag personality type. I think that's why we can't get any real niggas and we go after a certian type of nigga and white boys if you really pay attention to his tenure here as the owner especially at the beginning. Look man not all these players want to be your friend Mark and he just won't accept that.

Like when Monta was here and everything soured they called him "moody" bitch what does that even mean? He just not the typical friendly ass nigga y'all like on your fucking team. But you still haven't replaced his skill set and he is the ONLY person to lead the Mavs in scoring besides Dirk in the last like 15 years.

Now about that coach he is a VERY GOOD COACH he gets the most out of some thrown together ass rosters. But he has some HUGE faults. For one he will call out his players in the media and these sensitive new age stars ain't down for that. Also it's his way or the highway and only Pop can get away with that in 2016. It's a players league now more than ever. Carlisle still hasn't gotten with the program. He refuses to develop and play anyone who isn't past their prime he hates young players. All in all I think he has a bad rep around the NBA so his presence is actually hurting us more than anything.

There or no state taxes but it's other places like that as well and players have chosen then over us. From Miami, to Houston, to San Antonio. And then players have picked to play in somewhere that's a larger market such as New York or Chicago over playing here state taxes be damned.

All in all its always something it's pitiful and sickening

And you damn right it's karma for the dumbest shit I've seen or heard of in sports. Fuck Mark Cuban. He ain't some savvy businessman he got lucky and got rich.

Just like he was lucky to buy a team with a young Dirk Nowitzki on it

Who has been covering for his and his front office deficiencies for his entire career.

Horford was a fucking beast in his younger days...hes still very good but he's going to decline by the 2 or 3rd year of this deal...
but we needed a big name signing...it just helps bringing other players in..cause celtics always used to sign washed up vets...he is 30 still got like 1 or 2 year of prime ball left....plus the way al plays you will think he can't jump..but dude is athletic, its just his style. thats why i think he is a better fit that dwight...dwight game is down because it is based off put backs, powers moves.

Why is everyone shocked by these contracts? It's been well known that the cap was going up tremendously this season and even more so next season. I hate when people argue about a guy's contract wondering if he's worth it. If the team gave it to him then he's worth it. You can't judge these contracts by the previous one's that were set under a different cap. I doubt anyone would like other people discussing their worth to their bosses at their jobs. I can't fucking stand these reporters who hating on these brothers about these contracts. No one ever says about all the Damn money these owners are taking in year after year. If that wasn't the case they wouldn't still own a team. So fuck em.

Not sure but I think that those deals are most useful for restricted free agents where the teams can match. That huge salary jump in the last year is to fuck up the matching team's cap room possibly putting them in the luxury tax. With the cap rising like it the poison pill wouldn't work right now.

Definitely a good pick up for ya'll Pat.

A great thread question...

If EVERYONE was a free agent RIGHT NOW...

how would you rank the top 20 players and how much would they get paid for one year?

I'm wondering if Klay would rank higher than Curry?

And would John Wall crack the opportunity 10?

Would Melo rank at all?

what does he mean by not impressed..he needs to take that $$$ Crawford isn't young anymore i can't see him fitting anywhere but the clippers and maybe knicks or golden state.

He could make more with the Nets and get significant playing time but in terms of winning :smh:

Ya'll BELIEVE this is TRUE?

Lies.. You shell out this much money and there's bound to be an increase somewhere. Maybe nothing too crazy but a two percent increase in tickets will balance the surge in salary cap. Maybe food and drinks goes up a dollar. Sneaky additions

He's been wanting to move on for a minute. He's been looking at the Knicks before they signed Lee.

I wouldn't mind him coming to NY again off the bench taking minutes off Rose so he can rest.

I can't believe I'm saying this but....

Don't kill me

I think I wouldn't mind Rondo either.

The Atlantic conference just got insanely competitive in a week's span

76er with Simmons and all their young players..

Knicks get Noah, Rose and Lee

Celtics get Horford and all those rookies

Toronto resigns Derozan and maintain their core

And the Nets...welp

They were 3rd in the East without Horford.
They are probably still 3rd on the east. I guess you have to put them in front of the

Bosh coming to Dallas is news to me. He never had any plans of coming here:

Sisters will still be ass, Knicks will probably be a second tier team depending on the health of Noah and Rose..... And Toronto will do what they do every year. Make the playoffs and fail.

Celtics are a interesting case. Hortford is a good piece but they needed a number one. How goodnirnbad they are will be dependent on how much Marcus Banks develops IMO. They needed a legit number one option this offseason and instead got a highly paid role player on Hortford.

This would be fun to speculate on if the league didn't handicap the free market with that "max contract" bullshit. As it stands, everyone would be getting the same deals in about 4 different tiers.

Tier one with Bron , KD, Curry, Russ... Would get the 26/year deals

Tier two with Klay, Dray, Harden, Kyrie... Would get the 22/year deals

Tier three with Lowry, Derozen, Beal, Drummond.... Would get the 18/year deals

Tier four would deals ranging from 15 per down to 9.

Bums and washed up vets would get what's left ...

I think I wouldn't mind Rondo either.

Unless something big comes along, Jackson isn't trying to spend much more:

The remaining roster-building for Jackson must be completed with very limited cap space — somewhere around $3 million. The Summer League team’s debut Saturday didn’t uncover any gems, especially after an 81-49 embarrassing loss to the Pistons.

Jackson indicated that even in the failed pursuits in free agency, he’s laying the groundwork for next summer.

“(We have) a limited budget. And being somehow penurious we’re always trying to squeeze something extra out of it. We’re not deep on talent. We’re trying to do multiple tasks,” Jackson said. “We hope to make connections with people that have interest or perhaps, if not this time, we’re in a position to move so we have opportunities at later dates.”

What should they have done? Nobody wants to play for them..... It could've been worse. Could've lost out on Bradley Beal.

That's the thing I don't get. John Wall is a Pass First PG. You will get your points. Just don't understand who wouldn't want to play for a team with a backcourt like Beal and Wall ( which beal can never stay healthy). I guess I get your point though and the dude from Indiana and Orlando will provide solid depth in the front court.

Could have had a plan for starters. Then could have aggressively pursued Anderson and Hortford. Overpaid if needed. The money has to be spent anyway.

More importantly make better trades and draft decisions leading up to this point.

Can't see Rondo coming off the bench. They will bring back Galloway to back up both guard positions and probably Derrick Williams.

Phil needs people to bench players that can easily plug into the triangle.

True but we gotta take a few things into account. ..

Coaches

Veteran leadership

Play off experience

Injuries

Cause all these teams do NOT have a recent run of success.

F*ck it...

No max contracts...

How much would the top 20 be WORTH and paid for one year service?

Yeah man I just think you factor in its DC and the way that the salary cap is...... DC didn't have much more to offer than the rest id the league. When essentially every team in the league has cap space....... That pretty much eliminates teams like DC from being big players and most teams for that matter. Only players getting signed are 3rd tier trash.

These dudes man..... You just don't know what they think. Like I felt the same way about Dirk in his prime. Who wouldn't want to play with a unselfish superstar who can put up 30 points on 12 to 15 shots? Why wouldn't a cat who likes to jack up 20 shots a game not want to play with that?
