This got me thinking... he is spitting uncut truth here.

I remember adults in my youth condemning trade schools as limiting options for black youth... but now I see it different

I attended both inner city schools in Oakland and suburban schools in Vallejo... I was in Algebra in 7th grade and taking Auto CAD classes

When I went back to Oakland kids were in 10th grade taking algebra and the engineering academy had just 15 members...

What are your thoughts on defunding trades from higgschools in the inner city.

Should they be brought back?

Yes they need to be brought back.A lot of teens graduate or dropout with no plan and end up getting stuck in low wage blue collar jobs which continue to feed the cycle of poverty. If they could pick up a skill in school at least they would have something to fall back on instead of street shit or the pole.

What really needs to happen though is an intense S.T.E.M curriculum starting in elementary school aimed at inner city and predominantly Black school districts.

been saying for decades that they need a class called alternative lifestyles here in nyc highschools..each day have a special guest speaker from diff walks of life as far as nyc careers in the blue/white collard job field that don't need any college.. let them come in an explain how to go about getting that job, the task they have to do, salary, etc...it would/could show/save a lot of students who aren't sure what they goin to do after highschool or who aren't interested in goin to college..it shows them that their are various options to choose from..this class needs to be put into the school system

I didnt realize the value of trade school until I took a year off from undergrad 1 year from my graduation. I went to Atlnta Area Tech on the hope scholarship the 1st year it was available. My entire cosmetology program was free.. books & all! I quickly learned that this is the place ALL the white kids whose fathers have A/C, Plumbing, & Electrical businesses go! They pull up in those big ass trucks. It was a mind opener.

I WISH I knew about it before I went to college. I probably would have never went to college. My mom is the 1st generation american & all she knew was "COLLEGE DEGREE".

Most trade school graduates have little or no school debt 2 years after graduation.

That's what I do with my youth program.
College and Trade or Apprenticeships
Dock workers
Electricians
Mechanical Engineers/processors
Oil work
Design Interior/Exterior

I expose the kids to all of that stuff (adults too) and they end up finding a new path in life because of it.

They've been programmed to think you go to school you go to college you get a job. College isn't for everybody.
Once exposed to apprenticeship's of all kinds they thrive every single time.
So many kids I've helped come back and are making 70k after their 1st year at anywhere from 19 to 22 years old and want to thank me and buy me shit its crazy lol

The kids want to work and make a good living legally but its sold to them that only certain jobs can do this when there are plenty of jobs that aren't going anywhere ever that can get them a steady crazy paycheck
