No idea, but couldnt a plan operate like a glider if they lose thrust??? I have no idea if thats the case, but if you could keep enough wind flowing around the wings.......... Wouldnt it be theoretically possible???

You'd still have enough speed when the fuel runs out to glide through the air, but i'm sure some valuable things need the plane "running". I'm just thinking like a car's power assisted components only work when the engine is running. Any Air Force brothers in here that know about planes hydraulic systems and flight controls?

To the best of my knowledge -unless- the plane breaks up in mid air or there is extreme weather or the control surfaces are locked/ obstructed... or worse case scenario the pilot is committing suicide... its more likely the plane will list left or right and come down wing first instead of nose first
 
Sorry but they still fucked up that test crash.. If it's suppose to be a controlled crash then the pilots should have flared the nose of the plane before impact with the landing gear up to land the plane on its belly.. That entire plane would still be intact

the airspeed was way too high... they flared the plane would keep flying - the impact speed looked like it was well over 200 knots... the gear was down for added drag- if you watch the vid the chase plane with the remote pilot was having trouble keeping up with the jet

But they had the flaps fully extended so I'm assuming if this was to mimick a controlled crash where the pilots had time to dump fuel and slow the plane down or at least glide into a belly landing they would have to travel around 150 to 170 knots..

Going 200+ knots with flaps extended the plane nose is going to pitch up and eventually stall

not really ... she was moving faster than 170, note how the gear disintegrates on impact
it had power so it will gain more than 1k feet before stall, and then pick up airspeed and glide again after losing a few hundred feet
unless you want it to crash aft section first - which they didn't want...
from what I saw they primarily wanted to collect data on fuselage break up... then everything else.

1. the jet in the video was flying on fumes... the ones in PA and DC were fully fueled
2. both crashes were at speeds 2x to 3x faster than the controlled crash in the video
3. both crashes were deliberate sharper angle approach not the glide in the video

Hmmm...Nose into the water, everyone is dead. It usually nose dives into a huge ocean too. Even if you survive, you're pretty much dead. Nose dive into the ground, you're dead. Lose cabinet pressure, all dead.

A plane can't even fly that fast at that altitude, the air is too thick....look it up.
