This is not true. If an immigrant marries a US citizen, they have to petition for a green card first and they get a conditional green card for 2 years, after which it can become permanent. , they can later apply for citizenship after 3 years of successful marriage.

One thing people haven't mentioned yet is becoming a citizen by marriage is NOT guaranteed. If dude has an immigration ban for something like drug trafficking, falsifying immigration documents, or illegally entering the US then there is no legal way for him to become a citizen. Not even through marriage.
When 3 years is up and it is time for him to apply for citizenship both he and she has to be interviewed. And if the immigration officer suspects the marriage is a sham then his application will be denied.

First she got a green card, then she was a resident, then after a few years permanent resident, and after that if she wanted to pay the stack for it and take the test finally a citizen. If you dont want to be a citizen; then the process has to be pretty much repeated. Each stage required interviews and could cost a grip if you get lawyers to handle shit for you.
Marrying a U.S. citizen doesn't make you automatically a U.S. citizen after 2 years, bruh.

Your home girl probably didn't want to deal with the hassle, but if homes already had a job, he might've been sponsored, but even that I think has a clock on it.
