I actually use a lawn service for weeding and fertilization. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask what you should apply NOW. Timing is the most important aspect of weed control. While your there ask about their refurbished lawn equipment. .. Torro,Torro,Torro...I kind of let it go last year. ..slacked on the watering..

What products do you use to care for your lawn? I need some tips. I had to relieve myself and my wallet of TruGreen after using them for about 3 years, so I'm going it alone for the first time in a while. I started using TruGreen because I didn't know what I was doing in the first place.

This is my backyard for the most part and as you can see it's a decent size but with some hills. I'm right now in the process of looking at different companies to grade my yard to level it so I don't have to worry about the excessive water saturation caused by heavy rains and the water running down from the nearby homes that are higher up on the hill than I am. If I don't address it soon, I'm gonna be dealing with a severe breeding ground for mosquitoes.

I should've clarified my question earlier that I wouldn't be looking at corded lawnmowers if it was electric. I'd only do battery powered units if I opted not to go with gas. I'm new to homeownership so I wanna make sure I get my money's worth and do things right. Either way I still gotta get the yard graded otherwise I'm gonna be dealing with mud & mosquitoes all spring and summer.

Gas. I had 2 gas mowers and they both quit working and I got pissed and bought an electric one. While that shit cut the grass really nice, that fucking cord was a pain in the ass. But I used that shit for years and it finally died last year. Got me a gas one and so far this one is working good.

imam try and make this quick for the brothers with lawns:
1) use scotts turf builder for fertilizer and the weed and seed for the lawn to get that nice green out, water amply..like your woman back side....
2) use a gasoline mower if you anything larger than quarter acre....riding lawn mower or zero g if you got more than an acre.
3) for the bro that thinking about spending money for leveling and grading your yard...ease back on spending that money unless you got it.....GET YOU a yard to 2 yards of fine sand....the good stuff, not that pebbled crap. and use it to fill in areas in your yard where you have standing water. you got a nice yard so don't mess it up bc grading can cause more issues that it fixes. spread that fine sand around and in your standing water areas. itll soak up water, allow the grass the to grow through it and will self level with time. plus you may have a little left over for the kids to play in.....also of course it depends on the region of the country you in too.
4) Now is the time in early spring to put out your weed and feed to get those weeds before they start flowering and spreading. catch them early enough...no problems for later in the summer.

I worked for a lawn maintenance company for 4 years and learned a few things....before I left to come to DC, my lawn won yard of the month 2 months straight bc my grass was like carpet. I LOVE A MANICURED LAWN...ON AND OFF THE YARD YA DIG.

I got .6 acres, I'll ride do this until the wheels fall off, or I can get a better one which I hope to have next spring. This is a craftsman with a 48 inch deck and it takes me about an hour to cut the entire thing. Hopefully my next one has a stronger, faster engine that allows me to get some speed to cut it faster

What kind of grass do you have in your yard? Mine is mostly fescue so if I don't stay on top of keeping it trimmed, it'll grow like wild fire pretty quickly and it can grow in clumps too

My grass is a dark green. Here are the general rules to a healthy green yard.

Weeds- only grow when you don't have a thick turf. If you look down at your yard you should not see any thin areas or patches and small areas of empty space.

Grass has a brown green color- More than likely the brown color is due to lack of Nitrogen in the soil. Most grass are formulated to be drought resistant so lack of water can be the cause but mostly it will be nitrogen.

Fertilizer- make sure you mantain a fertilizing schedule. With you being new I would recommend organic fertilizer over the synthetic. Synthetic if applied wrong will burn the grass (turning it brown) and stain your concrete. Usee this brand of organic fertilizer Milorganite and it will have your yard a deep green in a few weeks plus it will never burn or stain.

To help would need to know what area of the country you live so I can determine the type of grass you may have

Depends on how anal you are. Some leave wheel marks and others don't. Also depends on the grass you cutting. Long blade grasses like Tall Fescue it is better to by a mower that does a better job of lifting the grass before cuting. Bermuda for example can be cut with any mower
