MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Outside of sending more evil white men to avenge what happened to their predecessors and steal the resources, what could it possibly be about? And after the first 20 minutes, it'll morph into the same ol' movie.
Yup. They busted their nut a lil' too early on the first one. It came off like the first one should have been the last one, 3rd in line or some shit.

they COULD got to other planets?

Had a chance to see Concussion on Thursday. Good performances from Will Smith & fellow cast members. Enjoyed watching the determination, drive & focus of the doc' Smith portrayed. Saw it with pops, so it was good to discuss pro football (which he has followed for 50+ years) and MMA/boxing (which I follow closely) and all the discussion in recent years about brain studies/injuries ... CTE ... rehydration, etc. Plenty of dialogue for Smith to work with. On a side note ... for the BGOL fam' into trivia ... Fresh Prince of Bel-Air debuted 26 years ago this September, and Will's music career kicked off 30 years ago next year. Respect!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a form of tauopathy, is a progressive degenerative disease found in people who have suffered repetitive brain trauma, including sub-concussive hits to the head that do not cause immediate symptoms. The disease was previously called dementia pugilistica (DP), i.e. "punch-drunk", as it was initially found in those with a history of boxing. CTE has been most commonly found in professional athletes participating in American football, association football, ice hockey, professional wrestling, stunt performing, bull riding, rodeo, and other contact sports who have experienced repetitive brain trauma.

Individuals with CTE may show symptoms of dementia, such as memory loss, aggression, confusion and depression, which may appear years or many decades after the trauma. In the case of blast injury, a single exposure to a blast and the subsequent violent movement of the head in the blast wind can cause the condition.[1]

In September 2015, researchers with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Boston University announced that they had identified CTE in 96 percent of NFL players that they had examined and in 79 percent of all football players.[2]

an Avatar full size amusement park would have made hundreds of millions...great idea.

Especially if they did a big environmental aspect where they recycle sell healthy food etc?

supposedly theyre turning Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park in FL into a Avatar-themed one..

so i guess the reason why theyre delaying the sequel is so that they make 4d camera systems..?

They gonna make a mint

Heard Harry potter making trunk fulls of cash and ain't even all that, they charging 2 seperate entrance fees for 1 park!

This has been a marketing disaster that cost them tons of money. They realize that the ship has sailed. Instead of turning it into a franchise when it was fresh they waited what 5+ yrs?!?! to follow up on their success. No one cares now and with technology improving a lot of us have moved on... Who knows why they dropped the ball.

I finally got around to watching Beast of No Nation. It was good, but I have to say, everyone is wondering why Idris wasn't nominated. To me, that little kid did most of the good acting. He should've gotten a nom.

Got a great sleeper hit for the weekend. Especially cats snowed in for the weekend

You sci-fi heads, and just movie heads in general will love this one, a very symobillic movie that will require some thinking. Recommended you watch it with another person, your gf, wife, fam, whoever, as its def a movie to be shared and talked about with others. I dont want to give away anything from the plot, just check it out and let me know what yall think. BTW its on Netflix.

I DVR'd this a week ago. I'm still trying to make my way through all of it. I've seen parts 1 & 2 numerous times, but this newer edit makes for a very interesting movie experience.

The Godfather Epic

A special 7-hour chronological cut of The Godfather is now on HBO Go

If you’re an HBO or HBO Now subscriber (or if you’ve somehow managed to obtain a password) you currently have access to an interesting cinematic beast: a 424-minute cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s first two Godfather films, recut in chronological order and bolstered with a number of scenes cut from the theatrical releases in 1972 and 1974.

The Godfather Epic, as it’s being called, begins with the story of a young Vito Corleone (played by 10-year-old Oreste Baldini, and later a 30-year-old Robert DeNiro) as he transforms himself from destitute immigrant to powerful mafioso. (You might recognize this section as the flashback scenes that were interspersed throughout The Godfather: Part II.) The action then leaps forward to 1945, as a 49-year-old Marlon Brando takes over the role. Aside from some newly re-inserted scenes here and there, this is pretty much the entirety of the original Godfatherfilm from start to finish. This section ends with Michael, the youngest Corleone son (Al Pacino), taking the reins of the business after his father’s death, and the rest of the narrative follows Michael’s storyline from the late ’50s section of Part II. (No footage from 1990’s Part III is included, for obvious reasons.)

Older fans might remember a similar cut—marketed alternately as The Godfather Saga or The Godfather: The Complete Novel For Television—that aired as a miniseries on NBC back in 1977 and was later released on VHS. While this sequential edit is an interesting way to rewatch the films after you’ve already seen them a half dozen times, it does lose some of the cinematic magic that made these films the classics they are today. The tragedy of Michael’s missteps as the Corleone patriarch is diminished somewhat when no longer juxtaposed with his father’s rise to power, and other trifling criticisms are mitigated by glimpses at reinstated scenes like a conversation between Michael and his father about the need to avenge the murder of the eldest Corleone son, Santino.

this was great -
it feels like there as an extra 30 minutes of scenes added to GF1 and maybe 1 hour of scenes added GF2 - closed off some loose ends in the stories and /or gave greater depth to some characters

The Godfather 1 & 2 Super Director's Cut

Outstanding Super Director's cut of one of my favorite films. So many new scenes that answer some of the questions i
have had about the 2 films over the years and after watching it about a thousand times
If you ever wondered what happened to certain characters, and if certain issues were ever resolved i highly recommend
this version of the film.

Scale of 1-10 a 10+

Chidl 44

Tom Hardy is excellent as secret police agent Leo Demidov and equally excellent is
Noomi Rapace as his wife Raisa who in 1950s Soviet Russia are not only deeply involved
in a spy ring but also a child murder mystery.Filled with twist and turns the film is always watchable
even though it's a bit to long and it was hard for me to buy into Joel Kinnaman's character
Vasili who is yes sadistic but he goes from being pushed around to tough and ballsy in no time.

Scale of 1-10 an 8

STOLEN

Another bomb from Nicolas Cage. This flick is right up there with Chappie because it's filled with unintended laughs.
How in the world do the characters in this film survive some of the worst car crashes ever, and being engulfed in flames?!?
I swear i though one of them was going to be revealed as a cyborg or something
Then one character completely hates another but for the last 15 minutes of the film he suddenly has sympathy for him and roots for him...WTF?

Scale of 1-10 a 2

serial killer Andrei Chikatilo (Jeffrey DeMunn) embarks on an eight-year killing spree, murdering 52 people. Lt. Viktor Burakov (Stephen Rea) wants to put a stop to the killings, but the Soviet bureaucracy obstructs him at every turn, insisting a Communist Party member could not be thekiller. Burakov is determined to catch Chikatilo, aided only by his cynical superior (Donald Sutherland) and a frightened but determined psychiatrist (Max von Sydow)

Had a chance to check out Black Mass yesterday. Enjoyed it ... cast was solid ... well-acted by Edgerton, Depp, and company. Good to see Depp when he's in full character & showing off the acting chops (the fucked-up hair, color contacts & greyish, decaying skin add to the evil he's representative of). People forget about his skills when he's picking the shittier previous roles like The Tourist, Mortdecai, etc. Good to see plenty of big names like Kevin Bacon, Jesse Plemons, Peter Sarsgaard, Juno Temple, Dakota Fanning & more involved with the project too.

Two distraught mothers, whose children were gunned down in a drive-by, team up to avenge their deaths after local authorities fail to take action.

Seen this movie on Lifetime earlier, was kind of a mash-up of The Bravest One and Death Wish..was so-so,IMO even if i did see the "shocking twist" coming a mile away..

gives a heartbreaking performance.I watched this character transform from frightened to loyaly stoic as he
is taken under the sadistic and brutal wing of the commander( Idris Elba turning in another great performance
)of a rebel force called the NDF.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga BONN is a mesmerizing odyssey of conflict and heartache.I loved how
Fukunaga displayed how the child soldiers may carry AK-47s and have unflinching loyalty but in so many
ways still displayed humanity and compassion.

One of the best films of 2015

KUNG FU PANDA 3

Kung Fu panda Po (Jack Black),returns to the big screen for another adventure that is quite funny and really layered with some
beautiful animation ,high praise for the films animation team.
This was a good story about family and living up to one's potential in life,
despite the fact that alot of the characters from the previous films actually vanish for large portions of the film.
But praise should also go to the enthusiastic voice work from the entire cast which includes Bryan Cranston and Kate Hudson

Seventh Son

This is one of those big budget flicks with tons of SFX coupled to a story that goes nowhere.
Icoherent story with incoherent characters.I give it some points for a few good action sequences
but man i was so bored with it took me 3 viewings to get through it because i dozed off the first 2 times

Had a chance to check it out on Thursday evening. We enjoyed it - well-paced given the long running time. Good cast and well-acted. I can see how it got classified as a "Comedy" earlier in the year at the Golden Globes, as it's a mix of Drama/Sci-Fi/Comedy. The more light-hearted content showing the optimism present in the human spirit ... even when you know you're fucked. Otherwise ... depression, pessimism & self-doubt creep in. Why even fight to survive? Just give up. Keeping things light, cracking jokes & fighting are what we do when we know we're cornered with our back up against the wall, so to speak. You're either going to live or die, so might as well put your effort(s) into living/surviving.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

Soul stirring and riveting story based on the events of Sept. 11, 2012, when Islamic militants attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing Ambassador J.
Christopher Stevens and Sean Smith, an officer for the Foreign Service, and of the six members of a security team who not only defended the U.S Consulate
but a C.I.A operative center

The film was released with controversy due to the members of the security team stating they were asked to stand down several times, plus the delay
of air support, and the denial that any of the aforemntioned happened by U.S officials

This film is intense and never let's up.Definitely not for the faint of heart because it puts the audience right in the middle of the batles and carnage that
took place.Plus all of the confusion and fear

High praise to all of the actors including James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini.Powerfully strong performances from all around

Will anyone know for sure if any of stand downs were ordered or flight support was delayed many times? Im not sure but if you dig deeper and listen
to the real security team you can definitely seperate fact from fiction.

IMO this is not only Michael Bay's best film, but also one of the best of 2015

Hail, Caesar!

The Coen brothers love for late 1940's early 1950's Hollywood shines through in their latest film Hail, Caesar! It mainly focuses on a film studio fixer named Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin terrific!! ) who is doing his best to keep the stars under contract with the studio in line not only in their proffesional lives but also their personal lives.

There are several elaborate and stylish scenes featuring dance numbers, and aquatic ballets, definitely nods to Gene Kelly and Esther Williams.

All of the actors do a fine job which include George Clooney ,Scarlett Johansson,Channing Tatum, and Tilda Swinton
There are true standouts Alden Ehrenreich as the beyond amicable cowboy matinee idol Hobie Doyle ,his scene with Ralph Fiennes as esteemed director Laurence Lorenz
is definitely one of the funniest i have watched so far this year.

Though the narrative is more of a patchwork than straight story, and it's mix of day in the life of doesnt always blend well ,this is a highly entertaining film for the most part. Definitely eccentric
and funny.

Beast of no nation was a good movie.

Props on the recent updates, JBlaze. Talked to a coworker last week and they recently saw Beasts of No Nation and Star Wars, and were planning on seeing Hail, Caesar!

I updated them that I'd seen Sicario, The Martian, Black Mass, Concussion, and MI 5 - Rogue Nation in recent months.

Watched Rampart on Thursday evening. Thanks to the homie Vicious for the link. Had been meaning to check it out in recent years.

If you liked The Shield tv series ... you'll dig it. Corruption ... a broken individual attracting other broken people around him, etc. Good acting from Woody Harrelson (easy to see how he pulled off the role in season 1 of True Detective too). He's believable in dramatic roles.

The Shield is an American drama television series starring Michael Chiklis that premiered on March 12, 2002, on FX in the United States, and concluded on November 25, 2008, after seven seasons. Known for its portrayal of corrupt police officers, it was originally advertised as Rampart in reference to the true life Rampart Division police scandal, on which the show's Strike Team was loosely based. The series was created by Shawn Ryan and The Barn Productions for Fox Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

Several notable film actors took extended roles on the show, including Glenn Close, who was the female lead during the fourth season, Forest Whitaker, who guest starred in seasons 5 and 6, Laura Harring, in season 5, Franka Potente, in season 6, and Laurie Holden, in season 7.

The series has received high critical acclaim, as well as several awards and nominations. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama in 2002; Michael Chiklis won both the Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actor in a Drama in 2002, and the final season won a 2008 AFI Award for best television series.[1] In 2013, TV Guide ranked The Shield #50 on its list of the 60 Best Series of All Time.[2]

Rampart is an 2011 American drama film. Directed by Oren Moverman and co-written by Moverman and James Ellroy, the film stars Woody Harrelson, Ice Cube, Ned Beatty, Anne Heche, Steve Buscemi, and Sigourney Weaver.[2][3] It is set in the midst of the fallout from the Rampart scandal of the late 1990s, when dirty LAPD veteran Dave Brown (Harrelson) is forced to face up to the consequences of his wayward career. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2011.[4][5] and was released in theaters in the U.S. on February 10, 2012.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampart_scandal

The LAPD Rampart scandal refers to widespread corruption in the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang unit of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division in the late 1990s. More than 70 police officers either assigned to or associated with the Rampart CRASH unit were implicated in some form of misconduct, making it one of the most widespread cases of documented police misconduct in United States history, responsible for a laundry list of offenses including unprovoked shootings, unprovoked beatings, planting of false evidence, frameups, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury, and the covering up of evidence of these activities.[1][2]

The Rampart investigation, based mainly on statements of CRASH officer Rafael Pérez, also known as Ray Lopez, an admitted corrupt policeman, initially implicated over 70 officers of wrongdoing. Of those officers, enough evidence was found to bring 58 before an internal administrative board. However, only 24 were actually found to have committed any wrongdoing, with 12 given suspensions of various lengths, 7 forced into resignation or retirement, and 5 terminated.[3] As a result of the probe into falsified evidence and police perjury, 106 prior criminal convictions were overturned.[4] The Rampart scandal resulted in more than 140 civil lawsuits against the city of Los Angeles, costing the city an estimated $125 million in settlements.[5]

Partly as a result of the scandal, Mayor James K. Hahn did not rehire Police Chief Bernard Parks in 2001. Both the scandal and the de facto firing of Parks are believed to have precipitated Hahn's defeat by Antonio Villaraigosa in the 2005 mayoral election.[6]

As of 2014, the full extent of Rampart corruption is not known, and several rape, murder and robbery investigations involving Rampart officers remain unsolved.[7][8]
