Sanders: 'We have got to apologize for slavery'

“As a nation we have got to apologize for slavery, and of course the president is the leader of the nation,” he added.

So no apology under eight years of Obama? Wait. President isn't king, so he don't get to make those calls, correct?

I hope Bernie beats Clinton and gets into office, but he better deliver on the shit he is talking. He also has to realize that the things he says can drive more cacs to Trump(or which ever candidate they field).

Listen man if we get ourselves together and unify we can get anything we want. It's pointless to make piecemeal demands because white people are NEVER going to understand. They are also never going to admit, let alone make reparations for their and their ancestors behavior. We'd be better off working towards respecting each other and cleaning up our own house instead of waiting for white people to give us something, no matter how much it's deserved.

Forget an apology and 40 acres. Fix the Flint Water Crisis. The Flint water crisis is true real life economic racism.
You need more than 40 acres if you factor in inflation. I often say we need 400 acres, 30 million dollars worth of farming and industrial equipment and 30 years of free fuel and electricity to get things going...

How much has the price of 40 acres inflated since that broken promise? The size of the land and "mule" offered should increase at a proportionate ratio or value in relation to the current price of 40 acres. It should be reflective of current industrial and agricultural technology (all built off slavery I might add). This would be "reparations" for failed or "past due" reparations payments.

I was just about to say the exact thing. Give us free higher education or trade school.
Fuck that! land is power! Land is freedom. You can build your own damn schools if you have land. Land can feed you, shelter you and provide water as well..

Hell, give us both but giving us land is high unlikely.
Yes, we are owed both.. We are owed a tremendous amount. But like the brother said we are better off cleaning up our own house. At least progress is guaranteed if we love and support one another.

This guy has raised almost as much money as Hillary and he has no super pac and has done very few fundraisers.

The media is not covering him and trying to make him disappear but he has a shot if people actually vote for him instead of thinking he has no shot.

That's what I am saying and he is leading in the early states. He has a significant lead over both Republican contenders while Hilary is trailing Cruz. The reality is that he is the frontrunner but as you said the press isn't covering him and it is intentional but they can no longer avoid it.

I believe the guesstimated price for reparations if we're just talking about for the centuries and centuries of the Afrikan Holocaust, Slavery, and Jim Crow is at over 100 trillion dollars.

And that's just from America. Not to mention The U.K., Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, and the Arabs need to pay the fuck up. This is bigger than just America, this is essentially about the restoration of Afrika and its original inhabitants. Reparations would set off a chain reaction around the world, and honestly this is bigger than Bernie.

Bernie has good ideas but does he know how to play the game to get things done in the house and senate to make them true.

The great orator Obama has been hit or miss on his non ethnic agendas so how could Bernie get something through Republican majorities in both levels?

Obama was a one term senator when he ran. Bernie has been there for decades right ?

i hope you all know this is just trying to get the black vote, he laid out a partial plan on his insurance without a way to fund it? so what makes you think there is a real "push" on reparations, he will start something in the late part of his first term (at best) then say he is close a tthe next election.... then let it die in the middle of his 2nd term.... LOL

if a black president didnt try it..... just more BS Im voting for hilary just for bills HOPEFUL inclusion.

and the only "reparations" that make since to me are educational based moves. The rest will have little to no long term impact since most of us dont know the first thing about capitals gains, derivatives and compounding growth.... dropping 5-10k each will just be a slow way to get that $$$ back to the hands that have it now....

I cant remember the book but it said , basically if you took all the money in the world and split it up evenly to each man, woman and child.... the $$$ would end up right back in the hands of the rich people today.. why? becuase its a mindset that makes them rich(real estate, stock, art and other appreciating assets) and its a mindset that keeps others poor(shoes, cars, clothes and non-appreciating assets)

It hurt to see where most of my people fit in that world, and how right that person was.

1. Raising Money For Korean Orphans: International solidarity was an unusual concept for any American to have in the 1950s, let alone a high school student. But one of Sanders' first campaigns was to run for class president at James Madison High School in New York City. His platform was based around raising scholarship funds for Korean war orphans. Although he lost, the person who did win the campaign decided to endorse Sanders' campaign, and scholarships were created.

2. Being Arrested For Desegregation: As a student at the University of Chicago, Sanders was active in both the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). In 1962, he was arrested for protesting segregation in public schools in Chicago; the police came to call him an outside agitator, as he went around putting up flyers around the city detailing police brutality.

3. Marching In March On Washington:Sanders abolishing all laws related to discrimination against homosexuality.

5. Standing Up For Victims Of U.S. Imperialism In Latin America: While mayor of Burlington, Vermont, Sanders formally protested the Reagan government's policy of sending arms to Central America to repress left-wing movements. In 1985, he traveled to Nicaragua to condemn the war on people there. He writes about it in his book Outsider In The House: “The trip to Nicaragua was a profoundly emotional experience....I was introduced to a crowd of hundreds of thousands who gathered for the anniversary celebration. I will never forget that in the front row of the huge crowd were dozens and dozens of amputees in wheelchairs – young soldiers, many of them in their teens, who had lost their legs in a war foisted on them and financed by the U.S. government.”

6. Condemned And Opposed Welfare Reform and Dog Whistle Politics:While President Bill Clinton and most Democrats in Congress supported so-called welfare reform politics, Sanders not only voted against this policy change, but wrote eloquently against the dog whistle politics used to sell it, saying, “The crown jewel of the Republican agenda is their so-called welfare reform proposal. The bill, which combines an assault on the poor, women and children, minorities, and immigrants is the grand slam of scapegoating legislation, and appeals to the frustrations and ignorance of the American people along a wide spectrum of prejudices.”

7. Vocally Condemned and Opposed Death Penalty and Prisons His Entire Political Career: Sanders has long been a critic of “tough on crime” policies. Here he is in 1991 condemning a crime bill for promoting “state murder” through expansion of the death penalty:

“My friends, we have the highest percentage of people in jail per capita of any nation on earth....What do we have to do, put half the country behind bars? Mister Speaker, instead of talking about punishment and vengeance, let us talk about the real issue. How do we get to the root causes of crime? How do we stop crime? … I've got a problem with a president and Congress that allows five million people to go hungry, two million people to sleep out on the street, cities to become breeding grounds for drugs and violence. And they say we're getting tough on crime. If you want to get tough on crime, let's deal with the causes of crime. Let's demand that every man, woman, and child in this country have a decent opportunity and a decent standard of living. Let's not keep putting poor people into jail and disproportionately punishing blacks.”

The belief held by Lincoln and commonly held by many during the Civil War was that the division, wholesale carnage and destruction was God's punishment for slavery...
