Microsoft WARNING — 'Use Windows 7 at Your Own Risk'

Someone is threatening Windows 7 users with a misleading warning.

Guess who? Microsoft itself…

Microsoft has just issued a clear warning saying Windows 7 users should remain on the aging operating system "at your own risk, at your own peril."

But why particularly Windows 7 Users?

Since Windows 7 runs on 55 percent of all the computers on the planet, Microsoft is worried that its goal to reach 1 Billion Windows 10 installations by 2017 could be harder.

During a recent interview with the Windows Weekly, Microsoft chief marketing officer Chris Capossela warned about the risks of using Windows 7 and urged users that it's time to switch to the new Windows 10 operating system instead.

Capossela also stressed that Windows 7 is apparently less secure than Windows 10, so it is "so incredibly important to try to end the fragmentation of the Windows install base" as well as to get them to a "safer place."

Here the so-called safer place Microsoft means is its newest operating system Windows 10.

Microsoft is Worried For us. Really?

Here’s what Capossela worried for Windows 7 Users:

"We do worry when people are running an operating system that’s 10 years old that the next printer they buy isn’t going to work well, or they buy a new game, they buy Fallout 4, a very popular game, and it doesn’t work on a bunch of older machines.

And so, as we are pushing our ISV [Independent Software Vendor] and hardware partners to build great new stuff that takes advantage of Windows 10 that obviously makes the old stuff really bad and not to mention viruses and security problems."

Do you notice any problem with Capossela’s statement? I did, the warning is entirely baseless.

There is nothing wrong with the security of Windows 7 as the operating system will be supported by the company until 2020, neither Windows 7 is less compatible with new hardware and software.

In fact, Windows 7 has a greater market share, which means the operating system is developers’ first choice over Windows 10 as well as the OS has greater compatibility with legacy programs and peripherals.

Fallout 4 not running on Windows 7 computers is also not true, as the blockbuster video game is fully compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines. Also, in case, the game do not run, no one will be installing Windows 10 to fix it, rather it will be upgrading your components.

Oh! Come On Microsoft, We Know...

The only reason behind this statement is Microsoft’s target of getting one Billion devices running Windows 10 by 2017 or mid-2018, and the motivation is quite clear with the following statement by Capossela:

"We think every machine that is capable of running Windows 10 we should be doing everything we possibly can to get people to move to Windows 10…We are going to try to find that right balance, but we just know there're many people out there who constantly kick the can down the street without a little bit more of a, frankly, push.

And so, there’s no doubt with a base as big as ours, it is hard to move anyone to a new model without angering some people. We don’t want to anger anybody, but we do feel a responsibility to get people to a much better place, and Windows 10 is a much better place than Windows 7. We will always give you a way out, but we’re trying to find the right balance."

This isn’t Microsoft’s first trick to force users to install its newest operating system. Microsoft previously tried a number of times to push Windows 10 more aggressively on systems running Windows 7 and 8.1.

Recently Microsoft announced its first milestone, noting Windows 10 is now officially installed on more than 200 Million devices worldwide since its launch five months ago.

Although there is nothing wrong with setting up a goal, but not respecting users choice and enforcing yours on them is completely not acceptable.

We know that technically Microsoft is giving an option to users, but by enforcing annoying pop-ups every time, removing opt-out options as well as threatening average user with baseless warnings, it appears there is no choice for users at all.

So, it should be completely our choice whether we want to switch to Windows 10 or not.

I read this article a few days ago. Microsoft is full of shit. They are pushing Windows 10 (which I like) but they are using scare tactics. I'm the last member in my family with a laptop using Windows and an android phone. Fuck it I'm jumping ship. iMac and Iphone here I come. Maybe not the iphone.

That bullshit windows 10 pop up always show up every time i turn on the computer. Im rollin with windows 7 fuck that.

I'm sure the fact that you have no privacy and far less control over your own system with 10 has nothing to do with this "warning". With the way things are going I might be using 7 from here on out

8.1 will be my LAST windows product. When it's officially dead years from now, I'll go apple or whatever mobile/virtual reality system has sprouted up. Microsoft is fishing for free data, fuck that shit

fuk the windoze goons

i'll continue to run xp & 7 until my machines blow up

Yeah, this probably has nothing to do with the rumored backdoor that allows the government and MS easier access to your machine and info right?............yeah, right. MS knows they're full of shit on this one

Microsoft shows off just how much data it’s collecting from Windows 10 users
http://bgr.com/2016/01/05/microsoft-windows-10-spying-2015-user-data/
Despite its continued insistence that Windows 10 isn’t spying on anyone, Microsoft has done little to convince the majority of concerned users that its latest operating system isn’t taking more data than it needs.

In order to reinforce its claim, Microsoft updated its privacy policy to clarify how and when the OS utilizes user data, but the company took two steps back this week when it published an enthusiastic blog post filled with data mined from users.

On Monday morning, Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate VP of the Windows and Devices Group, revealed that Windows 10 is now active on an astonishing 200 million devices. Its low price of “free” is clearly the primary factor contributing to its rapid growth, but it doesn’t hurt that the software is leaps and bounds more user-friendly than its predecessor.

But in order to illustrate just how popular Windows 10 has become, Microsoft felt the need to share some milestones:

  • People have spent over 11 billion hours on Windows 10 in December alone.
  • Over 44.5 billion minutes spent in Microsoft Edge across Windows 10 devices in just the last month.
  • Over 2.5 billion questions asked of Cortana since launch.
  • Around 30% more Bing search queries per Windows 10 device vs. prior versions of Windows.
  • Over 82 billion photos viewed within the Windows 10 Photo app.
  • Gaming continues to grow on Windows 10 – in 2015, gamers spent over 4 billion hours playing PC games on Windows 10.
  • Gamers have streamed more than 6.6 million hours of Xbox One games to Windows 10 PCs.
Admittedly, these are interesting statistics. That’s a lot of Xbox One gaming on Windows 10 PCs! But it’s easy to see why Martin Brinkmann of gHacks might find these data points troublesome.

“The statistics indicate that Microsoft may be collecting more data than initially thought,” writes Brinkmann. “While it is unclear what data is exactly collected, it is clear that the company is collecting information about the use of individual applications and programs on Windows at the very least.”

Data collection to a degree is inevitable. It happens on every connected device on the planet. What’s especially worrisome about Windows 10 is that we don’t know what’s being collected, and there’s no easy way to turn it off (if there’s even any way at all). We can only hope that while Microsoft celebrates its 2015 milestones, it looks to become more transparent in 2016.

Yawn. I am staying with Win7ultimate until sp1 is released for 10.

1. the equivalent of a sp1 has already been released. it was called threshold 2 or the fall update.

2. microsoft will no longer call the updates "sp" anything.

3. have u been hiding under a rock?

I got a new laptop with Windows 10 on it and I don't even touch it. It's basically a clock. That bitch still trying to communicate with homebase. :smh: Fuck that. My main machines are windows 7 until the wheels fall off.

I just updated to 10 for free. Whats the big deal? I got tired of the pop up. 10 is great.

Privacy. Basically, you might need one windows 10 machine for Dr. Truth and other things you do online and another for your government name. Yes, privacy is hard to have, but windows 10 makes it insane. Who knows how deep the rabbit hole is. :smh:

Free isn't always good. Google has a lot of data on people because of free.

Nope! Just built a machine & threw Win 7 pro on it! Billy Gates can fuck off with all that jazz!...

Been having nothing but issues with W10.. Shits pissing me off so much that I'm buying a Macbook Pro in a couple of weeks. Fuck it.

you do know that 7 is collecting just as much data on you right?

If windows 7 has such serious problems then surely Microsoft must be offering a recall with a full rebate or replacement. Otherwise they could open themselves to lawsuits

You lose all your privacy using Windows 10. It's like using a free app which in return collects your data but in this case Windows is not free

I tried Linux Mint on a dual boot and was very impressed. There really is no reason for me to have a windows os after I tire of windows 7.
