~Miami Heat 2014-2015 Official Thread - Reload not Rebuild~

Heat-Pelicans Preview
(AP) -- After all the winning he experienced in Miami, Norris Cole likes to think he can be a steadying force on a young team like the New Orleans Pelicans.

So far, so good.

Cole will face his old club for the second time in a week Friday night when the Pelicans host the Heat.

New Orleans (30-27) has won all three games since Cole joined the lineup following a multi-team trade last week -- even as other key Pelicans players, including All-Star Anthony Davis, have been sidelined by injuries.

"Norris has been a bright spot for us because he brings some intangibles to the table," coach Monty Williams said after practice Thursday. "He's played in really big games. Nothing fazes him. We're glad to have him."

The Pelicans valued Cole, a point guard, primarily because of his reputation as a strong on-the-ball defender, but have been pleasantly surprised by his scoring.

Cole, who was included in a trade which also sent guard Goran Dragic from Phoenix to Miami, averaged 6.3 points in 47 games with the Heat this season. With the Pelicans, he scored 12 points in a 105-91 win at Miami on Saturday, 15 against Toronto on Monday and 11 against Brooklyn on Wednesday.

"I've always been able to play offense. It's just that with certain dynamics with teams, you're asked to play a certain way and I'm a team player, but I work on my (offense) a lot," said Cole, who was part of Miami's 2012 and 2013 championship teams. "I can put the ball in the hole."

Cole's contributions have helped New Orleans stay in playoff contention at a time when their prospects looked bleak.

Davis and another of New Orleans' top scorers, forward Ryan Anderson, were hurt in the first quarter Saturday. Davis (right shoulder) is expected to miss up to two weeks and Anderson (sprained right knee) up to a month.

Yet, thanks to their modest winning streak, the Pelicans are within striking distance of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Heat (25-31) are in seventh place in the East and have little room for error with five teams within 2 1/2 games.

Since losing to the Pelicans in Dragic's debut, Miami defeated Philadelphia 119-108 on Monday and rallied from an eight-point deficit with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter to win 93-90 in overtime at Orlando on Wednesday.

Playing in his second game since signing a 10-day contract, Henry Walker was 2 of 11 from 3-point range, but his two makes came in the final 22 seconds of regulation.

"He kept on shooting and that's what you like," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He has fearlessness about him."

Luol Deng had another solid showing after finishing with six points on 2-of-7 shooting with four turnovers against the Pelicans. He has totaled 50 points and made 19 of 28 shots with one turnover in the last two games, and the Heat are 9-0 when he scores at least 20.

Michael Beasley is expected to be in uniform against the Pelicans after signing a 10-day contract Thursday. Miami signed the 6-foot-10 Beasley, who is on his third tour with the Heat, to add frontcourt depth in the wake of losing Chris Bosh to the season due to blood clots on a lung.

"I feel great," Beasley said. "I'm definitely blessed and humbled for yet another opportunity and I'm ready to take it by storm."

Whiteside or shall I say swat side or swipe side?

That kid gonna be a fuckin beast..

That trade kinda brought some life to that team, got a point guard who the coaching staff will let be the point guard... We understand the Wade/LBJ influence had some shit to do with guards in the past, but it's nice to see things starting with GD..

Yup...health is the problem.

For real! He was JUST getting some buzz, gets into some BS with Len and now THIS?!?! Plus, he's targeting white boys which is NEVER a good thing for a brother... :smh:
He is still young in the head and hasn't established himself to apply roughhousing techniques.

Looking good (at the moment). The Heats problem has been consistency this year. I just want to see the Heat make the playoffs and hopefully pull off a first round upset.

Heat-Thunder Preview
STATS LLC

Though Russell Westbrook continues to dazzle, the Oklahoma City Thunder's potential may be limited this season due to devastating injuries.

The Miami Heat continue to overcome adversity of their own as they climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Two of the NBA's top guards clash Sunday when Westbrook and Oklahoma City host Dwyane Wade and Miami.

The Thunder (39-30) won 123-115 at home against the East-leading Hawks on Friday after learning earlier in the day that Durant likely won't return this season. Durant, who has averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists while being limited to 27 games, is still experiencing pain in his right foot.

"He's not making the progress that we had hoped and anticipated him making," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. "He still has some soreness in his foot, and the protocol that's in place calls for him to be able to compete on the floor without that at this stage."

Serge Ibaka, the team's leader in blocked shots (2.4), may also miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier this week. Enes Kanter isn't expected to play Sunday after sitting out versus Atlanta due to a sprained left ankle.

Despite the attrition, Westbrook continues to make his case for MVP -- he's averaged 32.4 points, 10.4 assists and 9.3 rebounds over his last 21 games. He scored 15 of his 36 points against the Hawks in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma City has also fed off its strong home-court advantage. The Thunder have averaged 114.1 points while going 18-2 at home since Dec. 26, a record that trails only Golden State in that span.

They own a two-game edge for the West's final playoff spot over New Orleans, which is also dealing with a number of injuries.

"One thing I do know -- our guys are going to continue to fight and rally, and our crowd is going to continue to support our guys because they give effort," coach Scott Brooks said. "We've never, ever given up and felt sorry for ourselves."

The Heat (32-36) have shot 53.7 percent while winning three straight for the first time since starting 3-0. They were on the outside of the playoff picture looking in prior to that stretch but have pulled within 1 1/2 games of sixth-place Milwaukee.

Miami is without Chris Bosh for the rest of the season and has dealt with a number of other injuries. Eighteen players have started, tying 2007-08 for the most in franchise history, and the 21 players used are the third-most in team history.

Wade has averaged 28.7 points on 54.6 percent shooting over his last seven games. Luol Deng is 20 for 32 (62.5 percent) during the winning streak while Goran Dragic is 25 for 43 (58.1).

"I'm proud of the way that this organization hasn't quit," Wade said. "I'm proud of the way that this team hasn't quit. And we're giving ourselves a chance. That's all we can ask for."

Miami is opening a crucial four-game trip, meeting the Bucks on Tuesday before visiting Boston the next night and concluding against Atlanta on Friday. The Heat lead the Celtics by two games.

Durant and Westbrook each scored 19 and Oklahoma City tallied 22 points off 21 Miami turnovers in a 94-86 road win on Jan. 20.

The Heat have won seven of eight on the road in the series.

The Milwaukee Bucks completed one of the most incredible comebacks of the season in their 89-88 home win over the Miami Heat Tuesday.

Milwaukee trailed by 12 points with five minutes remaining in the game, but the Bucks came storming back, holding possession while down by two after a Michael Beasley turnover with nine seconds to play.

It all came down to a clutch three-pointer by Khris Middleton as the buzzer sounded following a broken play and kick out from Zaza Pachulia.
