Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in USA

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Saturday evenings were a different story back then too..at least the 3 networks(and later Fox) showed original programming, and of course there was cable..nowadays the networks just dump reruns of shows that air during the week on sat nights

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

I used to get up really early on Saturday morning and watch cartoons. Those were the days. They used to have the Saturday morning pre show where they gave a sample of all the new Saturday morning cartoons, there are none. I mean, cartoons today sucked anyway, but still kids today have nothing to look forward to on Saturday morning like we did. 70's/80's babies had it good

We REALLY used to look forward to those pre-shows that highlighted ALL of the new shows for the Saturday morning line-up, as well as all of the returning ones, Jabberjaw, Superfriends, STOP That Pigeon!, Wacky Racers, Plastic Man, Sigmund & the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost, Grape Ape, the Laff-O-Lympics, Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space, Shazam, Isis, Lassie's Rescue Rangers, and sooo many more, ALL enjoyed with your favorite sugary cereal (Frankenberry here!) & a bowl of cold milk!!!!!

THOSE were the days!!!

Yeah Svengoolie was like WGN's rival back then. Svengoolie was more wacky and comical with his horror movie show. I guess you could call it campy. My favorites were the Godzilla and King Kong movies. War Of The Gargantuans and if I'm not mistaken I think the Abbott and Costello horror comedies.

I think I first saw Night Of The Living Dead on Svengoolie's show. That was the only horror movie that actually slightly scared me a little bit as a kid. Besides The Exorcist that is but that was too serious and major of a film for those Creature Feature type local shows. They specialized in schlocky B movie material. It was cool and fun tho as a kid.

Here in NYC we basically had to wait until "Monster Week" on ABC Monday thru Friday from 4:30-6:00 to see most of those Godzilla, King Kong, Gamera & Gargantua movies (it was the Brown one vs. the Black one, if I remember right), every now & then they used to come on channels 5(WNEW), 9(WOR) or 11(WPIX) (our local affiliates back then) during the weekends as well, ALL Abbott & Costello movies used to come on here on WPIX channel 11 EVERY Sunday afternoon from 11:30-1:00, rivaled by WNEW 5's "Bowery Boys" @ the same time, it was like this for YEARS!!!

Shout out to "Wonderama" with Bob McAlister which used to come on from 8-11 every Sunday, it was a kid's interactive show that also showed Bugs Bunny cartoons, I used to watch that & A & C movies on Sundays when I didn't go to church, I knew NOTHING about football watching back then, lol!!!

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Lets face it. Saturday cartoons also encouraged social awareness in the minds of kids. Watching saturday cartoons was a time to eat sugurary assed cereal that you didn't get to eat during the week because you get to make it yourself, and catch up on shows that you would later talk about and try out the fighting with your friends.

I couldn't wait!!! for School House Rock

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Where does it say FOX kids, Disney XD, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network won't be showing cartoons anymore?

I was thinking that

but it forces a parent to have cable

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Sad when kids didn't wake up to Fragle Rock and Muppet Babies.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

I remember watching cartoons from the time I woke up till around 12 when Soul Train, Wrestling, or American Gladiators came on. After that outside till it was time to eat.

I don't like alot of these new age cartoons they're feeding the kids now a days on cable. Broadcast TV cartoons tho far and few was the only thing really showing older cartoons. Whenever I babysit my niece and nephew Netflix is on and it's 80s and 90s cartoons(TMNT, transformers, Bobby's World, etc.)
You will know the original heroes in a half shell not these sexy flexi ass new Turtles

damn no blip and bolt? no dragon ball z kai (even tho they just repeated the same 2 or 3 story archs) no yu gi oh??

:smh: who the fuck wants to watch a cooking show at 9 in the morning on a saturday??

Sad when kids didn't wake up to Fragle Rock and Muppet Babies.

Excatly!

Lol my son is 4. He woke up about an hour.5 ago and came downstairs and said he wanted to see Avengers. I put my tablet on the table to make His breakfast, and all of a sudden I hear lokee blaring from my TV screen. He took my tablet, found Netflix, then avengers, and actually sent the signal to chromecast.

I thought about this thread immediately lol. The new Saturday morning. Now he's watching the iron man cartoon series on Netflix which is kind of dope.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Its 10am in 1978..you just had your second bowl of Capn Crunch...and the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner hour is over... You're sitting on the floor in either the living room or your parents bedroom (cuz those were the only rooms that had COLOR tv in the house) or your room (usually a B/W 20 inch..if you had color tv in you room at that time you were hooked up..lol) eagerly waiting for THIS to come on

now..tell me if this DIDN'T happen :lol::lol::dance::dance:

you can't even recreate that as an example for todays generation to see..you just had to experience it. :smh:

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

been watching dragonball z every Saturday morning for years

not happy about this:hmm:

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

Speaking of cartoons, is there a live stream for boomerang anywhere? I switched cable providers a couple of years ago and that is the only channel I miss.
Download this...

Find the add-on for those channels.

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

old school cartoons give you the whole plot and synopsis in the intro

Sent from my Galaxy S5

thats what made it so cool and easy to follow as a kid..:lol:

but that was a staple element for pretty much any cartoon or sitcom back then...if the theme song had lyrics it was telling you what the show was about..gilligans island, brady bunch, all in the family, jeffersons, good times, diff'rent strokes, happy days and laverne & shirley..hell even cheers, a different world and friends later on...

it was the best way to get a new veiwer up to speed on the show almost subliminally..

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

In Chicago we had the morning block of kids shows before school like Capt Kangaroo and Ray Rayner and Clutch Cargo.

Then at lunch time around 12 pm or so they used to have a cartoon lunch hour. Stuff like Bozo The Clown, Magilla Gorilla and other 60s cartoon reruns for an hour or so. Bullwinkle used to come on at noon for awhile.

Then by 2:30 at the earliest the after school block would begin. Prince Planet, Battle of the Planets, Space Giants and all sorts of stuff.

Cartoons would end at about 4 or 5pm maybe. Of course the sitcom reruns were great for us kids too or the whole family actually.

Saturdays would start about 6am till about noon. Then sports and movies and specials or nature shows would take over.

Before ESPN all we had was Wide World Of Sports and just regular football, basketball or baseball games.

A few cartoons would come on Sunday morning as well till maybe 10am or 11am or something.

Whole different world back then.

Preach Brother :dance::dance::dance:

Matter fact it did start with cancelling Sunday cartoons. Sundays used to be Mighty Max, Biker Mice from Mars, and Looney Toons :smh:

Re: Today is the last day Saturday Morning Cartoons will be played on Broadcast Tv in

its just cheaper, easier and more profitable to put on infomericals than creating original programming. and its not like kids don't anything to watch on saturday mornings with nick and disney. also qubo is on most non cable broadcast.

(Sighs deeply)

Another part of my childhood gone.

My brothers and me; blankey on the living room floor; floor model TV; over-sized bowls of some type of sugary cereal. Ahh, the memories.

But I understand. Outside of sports I have not tuned into a broadcast channel for any other programming in years.

I thought this was that show with the dude with the motorcycle and the lion when I saw the thumbnail. I actually can't remember the show I'm thinking about right now but it had a lion and a motorcycle.

this show was on some other shit

I think I missed that. Doesn't look familiar but looks pretty good.

But talk about weird shows there was H&R Puff n Stuff, Sigmund and The Sea Monsters and of course Pee Wee's Playhouse. I always thought Romper Room was a tad bit weird or at least had a weird segment with the chick looking through that mirror.

PBS had some great shows. One of my favorites besides Sesame Street of course was Zoom. I used to have crushes on some of the chicks. Irene Cara was on there as a kid and I had a big time crush on her with those big pretty eyes she had.

PBS used to compete on Saturday mornings a little bit too.

You guys got me nostalgic with all this reminiscing.
