I got a chik I'm cool with that took her pops to Brasil to watch some of the earlier group games. After they lost she's not answering text messages, deactivated all types of social media and won't return phone calls. Lol, if it hit double digits - I'd bet $uicide.
Now you're trying to qualify it. You just said he's never been non-effective. He has. Whether he played with a right ankle injury in 1990..or what about 1982. He might have been young but Pele scored multiple goes in the world cup finals as 17 year old! Maradona played in 4 world cups and had ONE where he was GOD... 1986... it wasn't like he had multiple great cups like Pele. Pele scored multiple times in 1958 and dominated 3 cups later again in 1970 (although that squad was just ridiculously loaded).
The reality of the matter is that Maradona gets A LOT of credit for the 1986 cup.. he deserves it because he almost single-handedly delivered it but at some point it overshadows reality.
I even accept an argument that Maradona was the GOAT. However, to make it seem like he's never looked average or been a ghost on the pitch is just crazy. A MAJOR part of his god-like status is that 1986 World Cup run. You take that away from him and he's not God anymore. So it's crazy to say that Messi, who still has at least one more cup in him, can't match or eclipse him.
and let's not act like this Argentina team is stacked. They're without their second best player now and no one really had them as a favorite. This is not a great team. And the point about Pele was this. Since Maradona only had one dominant cup, he's easily within play for Messi because he has this cup remaining and probably still one more. Messi couldn't catch Pele regardless. So the point is that you're putting Maradona into a category where he doesn't belong in terms of being out of reach for Messi (multi dominant cup performances). Legends are built at the world cup by performing at multiple world cups. The likes of Cruyff and Rummenigge never won a world cup, but are legends in the game. Pele will never ever be beat. You will never see a another player star and win 3 world cups. It will never happen again. Never. The closest since pele has been Ronaldo, unfortunately he didnt get a chance to play at USA 94. After a qualification process that began all the way back in June of 2011, when mighty Belize defeated Montserrat to yesterday’s second semifinal, it all comes down to this Sunday, when Germany and Argentina, holders of 5 previous World Cups combined, will face off to determine if it will be Philipp Lahm or Lionel Messi who will be the captain who hoists the trophy in victory.
This will be viewed culturally as a clash between Europe and South America, but the truth is that with the majority of Argentina’s players currently plying their trade in European leagues, there is not that big a contrast in playing style between the two.
What should we expect tactically this Sunday?
PHYSICAL FACTORS
By this point of a tournament, fatigue will definitely be coming into play, and there may be fitness concerns. This is where Germany hold a distinct advantage, as they have managed to remain injury-free, and should have no concerns going into Sunday. By contrast, Argentina still have question marks about key midfielder Angel Di Maria, and even though he was seen stretching and warming up on the sidelines yesterday, he was kept out of the action by manager Alejandro Sabella. On top of this, Argentina will be playing their 3rd match in 8 days, whilst this will be Germany’s 3rd match in 9 days. That extra day of rest could be a significant factor come kick-off.
The intensity of competition may also come into play regarding the fitness question, as Germany played their semifinal at a virtual stroll after that remarkable first half against Brazil, and did not have to exert themselves much in the latter stages of the game. Argentina, on the other hand, had to play a full 120 minutes in a driving rain shower the very next day, and even though there isn’t any one factor that should be overstated, this just emphasizes the importance of the extra day of rest the Germans will have had.
