MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Sex scenes are always so awkward in public settings. Saw a flick once ... and as soon as a bush was shown ... all the 20-something broads a row ahead just started cracking up. I started laughing at them being uncomfortable :D

:lol::lol::lol:

Nothing beats when Margot Robbie stands in the doorway nude in The Wolf of Wall Street ,all you heard was wow, mmmph, and lord have mercy from about 30 guys in the audience including me.

Oh and the nudity in Watchmen people were laughing and parents walked out dragging their kids behind them,i guess they thought they bought a ticket to SuperFriends or something.

Saw that movie Open Water and the blonde chick briefly showed bush while laying in bed. I was with a relative at the time. I was smiling. The broads in front of me were spilling their popcorn & completely uncomfortable.

NEED FOR SPEED

Watching Need for Speed is like watching the stepchild of the Fast and Furious films. Now when
NFS is going 230 MPH it's a lot of fun as the rumble from souped up engines blasts from
the speakers.Aaron Paul is good as street racer Tobey Marshal,Imogen Poots sincerity as a
love interest shines through.I praise the Director and the producers for not using too much
CGI.
Some of the situations in the film are completely absurd, and only when its convenient does a character
find himself with his/her back up against a wall so any sense of real suspense is completely lost.
NFS is fun at times but wait for Netflix

BAD WORDS

Jason Bateman is outstanding in Bad Words a film he also Directed. If you like black comedies like Bad Santa this is right up
your alley. This is the tale of a 40 year old proof reader named Guy Trilby who finds a loophole in The National Spelling Bee so he can compete with 10 to 13 year olds.Bateman has so much chemistry with Rohan Chand as a 10-year-old named Chaitanya Chopra a fellow top speller he takes under his wing you would think the two have been working together for years.Writer Andrew Dodge provides plenty of salty and stinging dialogue
and comes up with situations that are extremely funny.Though the reason behind Trilby's Spelling Bee quest is pretty basic
and predictable, the film is uplifted by a completely game cast that includes Kathryn Hahn,Allison Janney, Kimleigh Smith, and
Philip Baker Hall.

It took me 2 weeks to watch the second season of House of Cards which was excellent. Going to see Divergent and im curious about that Nymphomaniac movie which is likely only playing in 2 theatres in my area.

Yeah - such a well-written and acted series. Everything (and everyone's) after the power trip & general power play. F.U. talking to the camera. The music & overall pace to the show. Good shit (just like the 1st season). Might check out Divergent at some point. Haven't seen Nymphomaniac listed locally. Keeping an eye out for those Captain America passes/screenings. Haven't seen any just yet, although did see a contest running the other day for the eventual Spider-Man advance screening. That contest runs awhile though and wraps up in late-April. Those ones are usually popular as they're open to all of Canada & people are entering for 4 - 5 weeks instead of just the quick 1-off entry.

I forgot Nymphomaniac was released on OnDemand so it will pop up online somewhere soon

Divergent

When i reviewed Need for Speed last week i stated it was watching the stepchild of the Fast and Furious films.
Well Divergent fares better in it relation to films with strong female heroines in dystopian futures, basically i feel
its a blood cousin to The Hunger Game films.
Whats left of the people after a great war on earth has been divided into five distinct factions: Abnegation (selfless), Amity (kind), Candor (honest), Erudite (intelligent) and Dauntless (brave). Now all seems to be going well and its business as usual,as people come of age and choose their factions. Our Heroine Beatrice (Shailene Woodley) posseses the qualities of 3 factions
which makes her Divergent, and its also forbidden.Something sinister lies beneath it all and rebellion sits upon the fringes of
this all to neat order.
The film is definitely helped by the magnetic and believable prescense of Woodley and Zoë Kravitz. With the exception of
Miles Teller the guys in the film (Jai Courtney and Theo James) come off a bit stiff.
Kate Winslet pops in and out as some ice queen overseer but doesnt impress much here.
Divergent is a very enjoyable adventure and is far better than the YA novel, borefest, adaptations Hollywood has been turning out lately.
Im looking forward to the next chapter.

Sure thing, JB.

I'm starting to see the Captain America and Spider-Man advance screening contests sprouting up in Canada now, as well as ones for The Wolf of Wall Street on blu-ray/dvd combo pack. Gonna be lots of entries pouring in for those popular ones. * Keep an eye out for the US contest/sweepstakes sites, BGOL fam' reading this - ya'll have way better contests & a much larger population than ours - there'll be lots out there for ya'll too √

I know this is the Good Movie thread and you would think a movie with Helen Mirren, Patrick Stewart, and Liam Neeson would be a cinch to qualify.

And then I watched

Excalibur (1981)

The myth of King Arthur brought once again to the screen. Uthur Pendragon is given the mystical sword Excalibur by the wizard Merlin. At his death Uthur buries the sword into a stone, and the next man that can pull it out will be King of England. Years later Arthur, Uthur's bastard son draws Excalibur and becomes king. Guided by Merlin, Arthur marries Guenivere and gathers the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur's evil half-sister Morgana sires a son with him, who may prove his downfall.

Just don't.

They didn't set out to make a bad movie. I can see they really wanted to make the joint epic.
They failed.

this one of those "better if watched in IMAX" movies

 the disclaimer at the end

"The film is inspired by the story of Noah. While artistic license has been taken, we believe that this film is true to the essence, values, and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide. The biblical story of Noah can be found in the book of Genesis."

Noah

I watched a YouTube video review of Noah and in it the reviewer stated that if you are religious you will likely pick the film
apart. At one time i was a student of the Bible for many years, and a part of various organized religions,so i have to agree
with the aforementioned critic,i did pick the film apart but it didnt stop me from enjoying certain parts of the film.
I admire all of the work that went into the film, the SFX,and some of the acting.Director Darren Aronofsky displays the faith
of Noah numerous times, but as the film reaches its middle he begins to focus relentlessly on making the story more dark and
creating turmoil in Noah's family, which also has its own dark turns.
I do applaud him for bringing out well known parts of the Biblical story, but i began to lose interest as the film reached it's last 30 minutes.

SABOTAGE

Aside from some ridiculous moments and some bad acting,i admire this flick for trying to be a little bit of everything.A police procedural,a western, and a blood and guts mystery. No one is winning any awards here but this is one of those in your face unapologetic action flicks
thats definitely not for the faint of heart.Kudos to Mireille Enos for really giving her all in her performance.

Had to. All the reviews I've seen give it 3 and 4 stars and it just isn't close.

Right on, brother.

Yeah ... I'm always weary of reviews (as so many are all over the top). I take my pops' opinion into account. He's hyper critical of most movies ... and often will rate them 5 - 6/10. A good movie for him ... a strong one ... is usually 7.5 - 8.5 tops, and those only come around once in awhile. That's why I know he isn't bullshitting and giving movies passes or light reviews  - a great movie for him is a "strong 8"

I got some of that in me so I understand.

Yeah man - we joke about that shit ... so it's a running joke for us at this point. Glad he's actually hip to some of the cool shit though ... big fan of NBA hoops ... NCAA tourney ... The Walking Dead, The Wire, The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, House of Cards, Strike Back & other shit ... so it's cool to talk shop with a cat who's pushing 68 and knows good shit, and classic movies.

Sabotage had me like :hmm:

Arnold needs to cut this shit out. This was just a "paycheck" movie for him. The acting was shifty as hell. By the end the shit turned into to some Dirty Harry shit. Arnold lines sounded read of cue cards.

6/10

Had a chance to see the GSP documentary Takedown - The DNA of GSP yesterday. Dope. Easily one of the better sports docs I've seen in awhile. Definitely recommend it for any GSP and/or MMA fans. Plenty of fight footage from 2004 - 2013 ... Hughes, Parisyan, Koscheck, Alves, Fitch, Serra, Condit, Diaz. The filmmakers did a great job with the camera work ... slow-mo & mics/audio (and adding in effects after the fact). The slow-mo content from the Hughes, Condit, and Diaz fights is worth watching the doc' alone. Some clips with his team (Danaher, Zahabi, Nurse & company) ... family (parents), and the rehab' from the 1st knee injury and subsequent surgery in late-2011 leading into 2012 (as he competed in April 2011 versus Shields and Nov. 2012 vs. Condit, followed by March 2013 (Diaz) and Nov. (Hendricks). They cover everything up until & through the Diaz fight. Some good candid comments from him in hospital post-surgery .. anger towards Diaz riling him up and talking shit, etc. The rehab' stuff at the hospital or sports center, and in training was good too ...
