OK... I'm going to say PISS!!! I've been watching porn for a long time, and this seems to be a recent things. I never saw any "SQUIRTIN" back in the day.
Did women just develop this ability.

Some women truly genuinely do squirt. BUT, just like with everything else that becomes fad some feel the need to fake it be be "popular". It was happening "back in the day" as you say. It was just frowned upon and seen as nasty. Women are/were embarrassed by it because so many men frowned upon it.
The feeling that she has to pee is a natural beginning to a real squirt as long as she's peed prior to y'all gettin' busy.
