Tyrann Mathieu could only muster up 4 reps at the combine

I bet either the patriots, 49ers, Baltimore or bengals snag him for a players price. Get him around a strong team environment and you have a returner/nickel cb for 3 million/5 year contract.

I wouldn't worry about it. I just want to know will he work hard. you drop off from not working out but your abilities that you had don't disappear all the way so one could reason he was never a bencher and as much as he dominated the sec and you motherfuckers were woopin about the sec competition, not a single fuck is given about his bench, I watched that kid tackle and strip numerous wr and rb's. My only concern would be his coverage abilities but I wouldn't be mad if the bears take him, we run a hybrid Tampa 2 which would allow him to be aggressive and still have over the top safety help, which helped a.samuel in new England

Btw whole lot of couch athletes in this thread talking about what they bench and run, but did some of you atleast put it together to play on a D1 level otherwise you benching all that weight for what ? In the words of Kevin hart sit your buff unproductive assess down

31 teams are about to make the worst decisions in a long time. I said the same thing about Burffect and i will say it again this dude is going to ball out on sundays.

I hope the new staff in philly are willing to take a chance on some high risk high rewards guys.

Honey badger going to be a baller in the league

I'm taking this guy 2nd or 3rd round easily. Everyone makes mistakes and I believe in redemption. This guy can play ball.

You must be smoking the same shit he was.

yea he doesn't get it. maybe we should get him in round 7 and that'll humble him and if it doesn't we can cut his ass

work ethic cannot be a problem you not gonna last in the nfl if you don't work

dudes that work hard as fuck can't make it

I TRULY don't believe that being drafted in the 7th round would humble him, after getting cut from the team, getting busted for drugs and now apparently not even doing significant weight training to go to the next level he couldn't have expected to go any higher than a 5th rounder, the ONLY thing that MAY humble him is NOT GETTING DRAFTED AT ALL!!!

Making him a walk-on should open his eyes as to how getting into the league is a privilege, not a right!

How can he be a baller when he's gonna have multiple injuries due to poor training and @ times won't even get on the field due to his suspensions for failing drug tests and being late for and/or missing team meetings.

Dude is a possible cancer in the making, he's gonna end up taking someone else down with him, he's supremely blessed with talent but he reminds me of another LSU product, I believe he is, oops, I mean WAS a QB!

sooooo... did he fall off, or was he never strong to begin with? if it's the latter, it shouldn't worry teams too much

You do realize that part of playing his position is tackling peeps the like of Ray Rice & Frank Gore, right?

I'm not even going to mention players the size of Vernon Davis or Heath Miller.

As everyone else has pointed out he can build his strength up, but this speaks volumes to his work ethic.

yeah cats gotta realize.....game tape is the biggest thing factored into getting placed on a team.....

Game tape is the #1 factor as long as you don't have character concerns

He did help himself with that 40 time cuz I remember a lot if people saying he was going to be a 4.6 guy

He has NFL speed, talent, and playing ability

Now does he have the needed work ethic and mentality?

That's the question

I'm taking this guy 2nd or 3rd round easily. Everyone makes mistakes and I believe in redemption. This guy can play ball.

So could JaMarcus Russell, Lawrence Phillips and even Marcus Vick, where are they now?!?

Dude has the talent to play in the NFL, but does he have the mentality?

Peeps think short term, if you use a high draft pick on him and he washes out after 3 seasons, or even if he does ok but gets suspended here and there or even arrested, is it all worth it when you have to worry about replacing him on the field week after week?

NFL coaches are not babysitters.

Off the topic......for the workout heads how can you improve your reps at 225? I lift 225 about 13 times on a good day but for some reason when I hit that 5 mark my body just seems to shut down.

if you can push 225 more than three times its not your max.

if 225 is 90% of your max, your max is probably 250.

get a good spotter and add 10 to 15 lbs to your bench and try to push out 3 reps or so, then take it back down to weight you're better able to handle.

i used a russian mass and strength building routine back in the day that worked well for me, but there's a lot of info on the web that you could use to get you going.

i did:

90% of max for 3 reps rested 30 seconds

80% of max for 3 reps rested 30 seconds

70% of max til failure, rested 90 seconds then repeated 2 times.

had to eat enough to build from that, worked very well.

on another note, i'm old now, i do not work out with more than 225 (4x45 plates on a 45 lb bar) because i'm not trying to tear my shoulders up at this stage in the game.

Fred Smoot only got like 3 or 4 reps and still got drafted. The honey badger will still get his shot.

Smoot is a cautionary tale in the NFL, if anything he'll lower the Badger's draft number, lol!

smoot got 1 rep and is still in the league

Smoot was cut by the Redskins back in March of 2010, hasn't played since.

So essentially what you're saying is that nobody should ever get a second chance cause there's a chance they could mess up again??

Interesting...

No just let it be the team YOU root for that drafts this muthafucka. He can be YOUR problem.

Nope, I'm saying that he has all of the earmarks of someone who is going to continue to have problems off the field, teams have to weigh this into where they draft him, dude was a sure 1st rounder if he had played out his career @ LSU, to get kicked off a college team after being mentioned for the Heisman and further, getting arrested for nonsense shows that he's still a boy, he has the talent to do ok in the NFL, but is he worth a 2nd round pick or a 5th?

If you pay $80k for a car, you don't expect to have any problems with it for the first few years, right?

Now if you only dropped $15k you go in knowing that problems can & will pop up, but if those same problems popped up in the $80k vehicle you'd be HIGHLY upset, right?

Someone mentioned Fred Smoot, he was drafted in the 2nd round and put up good numbers with the Redskins however if he wasn't considered a liability how come they didn't re-sign him after his initial contract was up and further, when he signed with the Vikings he never matched his numbers from his first stint with the Redskins.

He was a good player, but was he worth a high 2nd round pick?

That question now falls to the Honey Badger...

That's for the individual teams to decide, some will say yes, some will say no, in the end it will depend on need.

I firmly believe that the man who once had everything and lost it all, learned a valuable lesson. He's been humbled immensely. He was on top of the world at LSU and lost everything to foolishness and poor choices. Just him getting back into position to be a successful NFL draft pick, is half of the redemption. He could of easily of folded under pressure and gave up completely, but he didn't.

I can't speak for you, but me personally I've seen a few D1 guys with crazy talent, fold under pressure due to missteps and nonsense. This guy showed some character by even being there and being impressive. I'm not so quick to criticize this guy's past just yet.

He also ran a 4.43 in the 40 and has wowed front-office people with his on the field work at the combine. Deion Sanders was just gushing about him on NFL Network and said that the bench press is really obsolete for cornerbacks.

Redemption to you is traveling to Indianapolis and doing what comes natural to you with the hope of being paid millions?!?

Maybe I missed something, exactly what has he done that's special, I mean has he even given up smoking weed?!?

Bruh, enough. Just say you don't like the dude. It's painfully obvious at this point. I feel like people deserve a second chance. He's obviously getting that chance and impressing scouts and coaches. So we'll just leave it at that.

This don't mean shit. Mo Claiborne didn't lift & got a 4 on the wonderlich and still went #6 in the draft.

Matthieu had speed questions coming into the draft, so whoever he was working with...was working in his speed & quickness. Making sure he kept his instincts, lifting weight mean little in the grand scheme of things. As Deion said, " Jerry Rice not laying across my chest & letting me lift him."

He just ran a 4.43 though...

two things:

1. he's running the 4.43 and is probably out of shape.
2. UNRELATED, but niccas laughed when kevin durant couldn't complete one rep.

anybody NOT fucking with durant based on his weight-lifting ability is crazy.

and FTR, i'd take tyrann, who's NOT AFRAID to get physical, over some of these finesse-tackling mofos.

He doesn't matter to me one way or the other, I'm just tired of seeing these young, gifted athletes waste their talent, but I'd have to say that with all of the apologists out there I'm no longer sure if I'm placing the blame on the right shoulders.

He will play in the NFL NO DOUBT, AND i wish the young man nothing but the best, but on his current trajectory I'm pretty sure that we're going to be reading more about him, and not in a good way.

Put it this way, I'm glad that the Giants picked up Plaxico, even with his rumored off the field problems, without him the Giants don't win SB XLII, but it was his fuck-up off the field that DEFINITELY had an impact on the Giants returning to SB XLIII, most of these guys end up screwing up earlier rather than later.

"what has he done that's special?" seriously?

the guy has one thing that's hard to teach: ball skills. and that includes making something from nothing. when you can blitz a qb, cause a fumble, pick it up AND run it in for a TD, you've done something that takes a LOT of skill.

and he's done it time & time again, along with making entire teams miss him on punt returns. the NFL isn't about track athletes and bodybuilders.

If your small u have to be strong and 4 reps isn't enough, shit they said T New was one of the strongest players at K St and you see he still got knocked around occasionally. Panthers WR Steve Smith constantly stiff arms d backs and hrs tiny as well. Not good for the honey badger, whose nickname he choose represents an animal that never stops coming at you, this sounds like the opposite

Dude, why do you people keep bringing up Durant? Football requires you to be physically strong, especially in the upper body. What does a basketball player have to do with some scrub performing lousy at the combine?
