Denard Robinson: I could beat Bolt in 40

Denard Robinson is getting ready for Alabama on Sept. 1.

In the meantime, though, he has another target in mind.

Usain Bolt.

"I've watched him run, and I'm pretty sure I can beat him in a 40-yard dash," Robinson said at Michigan's media day on Sunday. "I'd get a better start, and I could take him.

"At 60 yards, I'd be in trouble, and at 100 meters, he'd be gone, but I could get him in a 40."

The idea for the race came from Devin Gardner, Robinson's backup and the Wolverines' newest weapon at wide receiver. Gardner was asked if the possibility existed of Robinson seeing some snaps at receiver with him at quarterback.

"Denard could do that in a heartbeat – he's the fastest man in the world," Gardner said. "I know what Usain Bolt did in the Olympics, and Denard probably couldn't beat him at 100 meters, but when it comes to football speed at 40 yards, I'd take Denard. He's that fast."

No Way even with Bolts bad starts Robinson would get smoked. Their would be no drive phase needed. Bolt be able to accelerate from the start. It would be pure acceleration. And it would not end well for people who put money on Robinson.

World class sprinters are generally not quick. The 40 yard dash is a test to measure quickness.

A lot of us could probably be competitive with Usain in the first 30 yards.

This is stupid. Bolt was beat by more than half of the other 100m sprinters in the 40.

After 70m, it was curtains. :itsawrap:
 
I could see it. He's rarely in the lead at 40 yards into the race. Denard's saying he's quicker, not faster.

There are some athletic brothas who are fast individuals. Everyone is not a fat slop.

The first 30 yards most people who have good speed can be competitive.

Around the 30 yard mark is when a person begins to have "turn over" Usain Bolt has unreal turn over.

Yeah,he could probably stay with him for 40...but in the 100,Bolt turns and runs backward after 90 just to watch him.
 
All this proves is some football players and BGOL members have no respect for the other dudes Usain races against. So what if Bolt is not in the lead in the first part of the race, can these dudes beat Gatlin, Gay, Powell, Blake? As for the start issue, Bolt has "bad starts" relative to the rest of a world class field of sprinters. This is not just talking shit about Bolt, its talking shit about sprinting itself. Before this dude talks about Bolt, he should go race the top sprinter at his college in the 40.

I agree with you %100, but D Rob probably is UM's top sprinter.:lol: He was top 5 in the nation in the 100m his Sr. year of HS.

A lot of football players ran track in high school, and many of them in college or a lot of the track athletes play football.
