You gotta give to get. Nothing is free in this world, and that includes culture. Running water, electricity, and potato chips, all come with a price.

If you wanna leave your current situation for whatever reason, you gotta understand that it's not gonna be the same as what you're used to.

They may :smh: @ the western lifestyle, but ask em if they'd like to head back to Southern Sudan, and sacrifice their lives in America, to simply walk in groups.

Moment of truth.

Great post btw. That documentary was very eye opening.

i saw this.
i like this documentary, because it starts off in a way that attracts americans,
especially whites, by seeming to suggest the west as superior.
then the common sense values of the sudanese, as they navigate western culture,
illustrates the inhumanity and ass-backwardness of the west. a back-hand slap.

Good shit

You would be surprised at how many would rather go the fuck back home.

Africans and Europeans with way less to go home to.

The saying "there's no place like home" is universal.

Didn't watch the clip but, I've chatted with folks from there, and most said it was different than their beliefs. Guy from Togo was shocked with the amount of different religions. Thought The states had one faith.

Amazed and the common sense and simplicity of their life. Not they have it, but that they look at Western culture and expect everyone else to have it, not knowing that we have corrupted/hamstrung ourselves in the worst way when it comes to culture.

Exactly.

I think that is why there is a disconnect sometimes between African American and African Immigrants . They are confused by our lack of honor, manners and hospitality in comparison to their culture and at the same time we look like them. Generally speaking we made these adjustments to live in a white society where that is the norm.

"In america we hear there is only one wife, These things are going to affect us"

Love that

Downloading now great post.

Just finished watching........

That shit is emotional :hmm:

Makes me feel bad for not trying hard enough, it's crazy what they went thru but still have hope and are still making it.

The sense of expectation is what drives them.

Same remedy we need for our kids...... raising the bar on what we expect of them

I guess everyone missed tha Santa Clause part.
"Thats Santa Clause,Its Santa Clause....And how is that connected with tha birth of Jesus Christ???"

True that good point . All African people in the America's had to adapt to survive. Most of us have taken on European values and bullshit that doesn't mesh with our natural true self. Thus we don't know who we are. We constantly running from our true self. Plus the more European characteristics we take on we feel it helps us avoid pain and sufferiing :smh:.

Yeah. I finished the whole hing and watched it straight through in one sitting which is rare for me. So much to think about. But their hopefulness and determination stood out to me. How they kept pushing forward because that is all they knew to do all their life. They accomplished more in three years in the us than many who are born here.

The other thing that stood out is their bond to their family and people. One brotha said he felt lonely because all he had was four roommates. Im thinking in the US if you have four people who genuinely feel have your back, you are a rare breed. Some of us have family only a half hour away and rarely take the time to ever see them. :smh:

I need to watch this thing like once a week to keep me focused. Great drop!

I peeped that. Its funny because it's a natural question for someone who only reads the bible and is not brainwashed by capitalist agenda.

The ill thing is you saw some the sudanese kids starting to do the same thing. One part of the film some kids were flashing their ice, rocking do rags and bragging about the car they were driving. At first I was like  then I thought damn..:smh:
