I wouldnt say he invented it, of course alot of it came from the blues and church....just like Sam. Maybe he was more of the architect. He definitely set the modern template for soul. But he along with acts such as Ray Charles, Ike Turner, and the Drifters were all vital towards the development of soul. I think the Inkspots were one of the multitude of groups that helped "soul" (which is almost extinct in MAINSTREAM black music)
