I'm not going to go that far as a total military state rising up @ the end of this year, but I don't trust them either. People forget about the "timely" bombing in Madrid around their election time that swung a vote. Like it's inconceivable.:puke: Your not crazy as some would try to make you believe. :hmm: A LOT for strange things have happened in the last 7 1/2 years Bush has been in office, but sheeple keep on looking at them as "isolated" incidents.

Peace.

Spanish Conservatives Defeated in Post-Bombing Election Upset :hmm:
By Patrick Goodenough
CNSNews.com Pacific Rim Bureau Chief
March 15, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - Eight years of pro-U.S. conservative rule have come to an end in Spain, where voters -- still reeling from the aftermath of last week's deadly train bombings -- handed victory to the opposition Socialists.

The defeated Popular Party of outgoing Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar had led in several opinion polls before last week's ten orchestrated bombings killed 200 people and injured 1,500.

Despite some calls for the election to be postponed, the 77 percent turnout was eight percent higher than turnout at the last election, four years ago.

The Socialist Workers' Party won 164 seats in the 350-member Chamber of Deputies (43 percent of the vote) while the Popular Party (PP) obtained 148 seats (37 percent), Interior Minister Angel Acebes announced.

Exactly which group carried out Spain's worst ever terrorist attack remained uncertain, but authorities continue to examine two likely culprits - the Basque separatist ETA organization, and al Qaeda or related Islamists.

It was the al Qaeda theory that resonated most strongly over a weekend marked by demonstrations by Spaniards who opposed their government's support for the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the subsequent rebuilding program.

Hours before the polls opened, it was reported that a video-tape found in a trash bin after a tip-off contained a message from a man claiming to be an al Qaeda spokesman, saying it had carried out the attack.

"This is an answer to your cooperation with the Bush criminals and their allies," the man said in Arabic. "This is an answer to crimes which you committed in the world, notably in Iraq and Afghanistan, and there will be more, so help us God."

News of the tape's discovery and contents fed into the already highly emotional atmosphere as voters went to the polls on a third day of national mourning for the victims of the blasts.

Aznar's opponents accused him of downplaying evidence of al Qaeda involvement.

Indeed, the government did appear reluctant to be seen as jumping to conclusions about Islamic involvement, pointing out that ETA had tried to bomb a train at Madrid's main station last Christmas Eve. Nonetheless, some security experts still believe the Basque group may be guilty of Thursday's bombings.

On the other hand, the government did promise "transparency" and that it would keep the public informed.

Acebes released information early during the investigation about the discovery of a van containing detonators and an audiotape recording of Quranic verses in Arabic, and again after the videotape recording was discovered.

The arrests Saturday of three Moroccans and two Indians in connection with the investigation also appeared to strengthen the al-Qaeda theory.

The video message is still being checked for authenticity, but if al Qaeda does turn out to be responsible, it will mark not only the group's first attack in Western Europe, but also the first time that it may well have affected the outcome of a democratic election.

A week before the election, the Popular Party held a small lead over the Socialists in four separate opinion polls.

Aznar, who had won the last two elections, was standing down, and his successor as party leader, Mariano Rajoy, looked set to be the next prime minister.

Instead, Socialist leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero will now have the opportunity of forming a government with the help of minor parties, not having won enough to govern alone.

Aznar sent peacekeepers to Afghanistan, and deployed 1,300 troops to help the rehabilitation of Iraq after the war.

Zapatero, a 43-year-old lawyer, opposed Aznar's support for the war against Iraq, and has vowed to pull the Spanish troops out if Iraq's administration is not taken over by the United Nations by mid-year.

He has also indicated that, under his leadership, Spain would align itself away from the U.S. and Britain and towards fellow anti-war Europeans, France and Germany.

Speaking after the results were known, Zapatero promised to that his immediate priority would be "to combat all kinds of terrorism."

No it's not made up but it's irrelevant. That was Spain and it was 4 years ago. Why didn't he do it already? He knew when his term would be up. He knew he couldn't run again. He had to know that the Democratic nominee would be the favorite. Why wait? Stop wasting obvious intelligence on bull$hit.

I have no idea why people think they're somehow clever because they can spot conspiracies that don't exist.

I have no idea why we have an airport and buildings named after a man who "allowed" the crack epidemic to take place by selling arms to Iran (Reagan).:hmm:

I have no idea why Oliver North is a war correspondent and had a television show after he was brought up on charges and was proven that he had a hand in Iran-Contra.:hmm:

I have no idea why, the "architect" of this failed and unnecessary Iraq war (Paul Wolfowitz) became the head of The World Bank, was SHAMEFULLY ousted and NOW is back working for the government as a top adviser.

I have no idea, after claiming that ANYONE in his administration who was found out to have a hand in outing Valerie Plame, Scooter Libby's sentence gets commuted.:hmm:

I have no idea why 15 of the hijackers on 9-11 were SAUDI and we attack Iraq?!?!

Please............. You can keep sleeping while some of us watch our asses.:itsawrap:

And, I don't know why the Republicans keep talking like the New York Times is some type of liberal rag when, until recently they employed Judith Miller, who bought the whole WMD lie thoroughly and sold it the American people so that Bush/Cheney could be reelected. Also, we know that the neo cons won't stop until they lock up all the oil in Iraq, Iran and Venezuela... Only a non thinking fool would believe that anything is beyond these people...

Bush will leave but the Reagan legacy he believes in will remain if conservatives win in Nov. Personally I can live with McCain as pres but I don't want him naming 2 or 3 Supreme Court justices. They would give the CIA, Fed gov, Big Business, a blank check and that would virtually insure another world war.

So your cool with the US in Iraq for another 100 years? And your cool with the flat out lie of the surge working when there is actually NO political reconciliation for which the surge was intended to create? And your cool with "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb...Iran? And your cool with McCain getting Bush's endorsement and clinging to most of his economic principles.:hmm:

Yeah I'm cool with being in Iraq another 100 yrs if needed. I'm cool with bombing Iran if the situation calls for it. I don't think a political reconciliation is realistic in Iraq at the moment. Those factions have been at each other's throats for 2000yrs. I think the world we live in is dangerous and we need someone in the Oval Office who recognizes that. We saw what idealism can do for us with the Clinton admin, 3000 Americans dead on 9-11.

But I think a all conservative Supreme Court would be the worst thing for us and the world. That's why I want a democrat to win the election.

Took you a whole second man...better stay in the little league because in the big leagues you don't get a second. True story..this week I inquired about a purchase from my overseas suppliers. I haven't heard from them in 3 days. Two years ago not only would I have gotten a quote in a few hours they would have sent a gift along with the order. It's nothing personal, or racist, it's a indication of how the world feels about America. Friday the dollar closed lower than all major currencies on the European market. There is a growing sentiment against all things American in the world. When it boils over hopefully you'll be the first to feel it.

OOOOOouch! That was harsh slim. I am so glad I opted to pray for you rather than give you dap.;)

Now, in all seriousness, bombing Iran, staying in Iraq, lying to the American people about the surge are all the reasons why the Bush-endorsed John McCain should never be considered a viable candidate for president. Ooops - that's right - he's not. :hmm: He is the default candidate. Therefore, he is even more dangerous because he knows that he can say and do what ever to win in November cuz they are stuck with him. For better or for worse the party will stick together to push him.

I read and interact with people who despise America and our foreign policy. I tell them that I had nothing to do with it. I tell them that there is a segment of people that are cool with being in Iraq another 100 yrs if needed. There are others that are cool with bombing Iran if the situation calls for it. I tell them that there are even some "patriots" that don't think a political reconciliation is realistic in Iraq at the moment because those factions have been at each other's throats for 2000yrs. But they still back the surge and any warmongering fool who keeps the masses in fear with the threat of terrorism every day.:puke: THOSE types of people are who my foreign contemporaries reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaalyyyy hate.

I do agree with you on the democratic president part though.

I don't just interact with people from overseas. I've been living overseas for years. I've only passed a couple of months over the last few years in the U.S.

I can super-cosign everything you had said...especially the last line.

Not gonna even expand more than that as I've already done it in several posts in the past.

I feel you. In America, when Rudy and Romney and McCain and Bush use the threat of war and sanctions to instill fear and rally their base the world goes WTF?!?!?!?

"Don't mind the troops, the flak jacket and the helicopters. The streets of Iraq are safe" McCain and the Republican party only use fear to enslave the mases. EVERYTHING is justifiable because we need to protect American. Protecting Americans is NOT getting into Iraq in the first place. Protecting Americans is not not even insinuating the notion of WWIII like Bush did towards Iran. Protecting Americans is TALKING to foreign countries and working out differences not isolating us.

America, perception wise, used to be the S***. Now, under Bush, we are just S***.

No DON'T RELAX!!

The intent of the Ultra Republicans (stop using words like conservative and liberal - they don't mean what people believe they mean) is to change America as we know it. The North American Union and the Amero (to replace the currency system we have now) will be steps taken to gain further control of the continent. They will say it's the only way we can compete with the rest of the world (European Union, African Union and Asian Union). The falling value of the dollar is no accident. Borrowing money from other countries to keep the American economy afloat is like any of us living off credit cards for every day living expenses. How sound is that? This crisis is leading to some type of extreme measure that can only happen with so many U.S. citizens living on their knees in desperation financially/medically/morally - so to speak. These people currently in charge see this as their last chance to gain and keep total control starting here and moving throughout thr rest of the world.

Second, if you can't answer those simple questions you threw out there, you aren't nearly clever as you think you are. Third, you're wasting energy on things that "they" might do. You know what they say about people that assume - I guess you don't mind. :smh: My "disgust" comment was not directed towards you. But birds of a feather do flock together.

I've been on this board for a minute slim and have had many conversations. Some were on point and some got really heated with people who give actual rebuttals - not t-shirt phrases - to substantiate their position. Then you got cats who like to be pedantic to impress themselves.

It's clear you got your view and I gotz mine. Cool. I'll leave it here. Your apathy and sardonic retort has added nothing to this dialog, but you have entertained your base though.:hmm:
