According to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News, the arrest occurred at 1:03 a.m. in the 100-block of McQueen Drive in Durham.
The police report indicates Redick made an illegal U-turn to avoid a license checkpoint. The officer followed Redick's car, pulled him over and reported a strong smell of alcohol on Redick's breath. The officer also described Redick's eyes as "very glassy" during the stop.
Redick was released from Durham County Jail around 4 a.m. on a $1,000 secured bond.
He graduated from Duke University in May and is expected to be drafted into the NBA on June 28th. According to the Florida Today newspaper, Redick was scheduled to work out with the Orlando Magic tomorrow. The paper reports that Redick canceled the workout.
Through his agent, Arn Tellem, Redick released a statement in response to questions about his arrest. The statement reads: "I regret what happened last night, and want to apologize to my family and the Duke community for the incident."
When asked if he thought this would affect his draft position Tellem said, "absolutely not. Everyone knows his character and his body of work during his four years where he's been a great player and person at Duke. He has handled himself well on and off the court."
He is scheduled to appear in court in Durham on July 17th.
