I am down. Membership has it's privileges. I mostly lurk. I have been trying to change that but sometimes I come on in different moods. One day I want to see some ass. Somedays I need a laugh. I might need a good read. Or something to play while I read. This board gives me that. I have been around since 02. Had to register in 06. Still lurked. I was down with donations from jump.
We are not talking about having a pay site. We are talking about membership. Something you own. Hell we are already a fraternity as it is.
I have been online for almost 15 years. I have gone through so many group of peeps, found and lost groups. All I am saying that if you need 400 people to pay to keep this up, I am with it.
If you need 400 people to make a commitment just to keep the board up... I am with it. Keep it as is, just get your loyal donors. Be like PBS or NPR, or the federal government. Get the responsible people to step up and pay for other people's welfare and food stamps and section 8. I don't mind cause I do that anyway. Hell file for your 501(c)3 and make it official.
Or you could get a solid base of donors to keep the steady traffic flow going, and then do a pledge drive twice a year. Exclusive photos or scenes not any place else(you have the people on here to do it, and you know that there is talent in the A) Secure that shit and pledgers get the right to go in that area. Otherwise it is business as usual.

Basically its unrealistic to argue a fee-based message board, especially with the conditions posed,and for the reasons already pointed out. Another thing to remember is that even sites that do charge a fee, still keep the board the accessible to registered members(no time limits), they just don't have access to certain features.

I like BGOL, even in my situation, I still post here when I have the chance, the problem I have is that no other message board requires me to pay a yearly fee. While I do understand HNIC got bills to pay, honestly I don't think the "message board" part of the site takes up alot of expenses.

Real shit though....the more I keep thinking about it $10 vs. what I've saved on music, TV, software, etc......the deal makes sense.

The reason i asked about the server bill is because you said you were having problems raising money for the server bill last month.
With the site being ranked that high in traffic i would assume you could get enough from advertisers to pay all bills.
Most of us have pop-up blockers anyways, so it wouldn't hurt the enjoyment of the website.

Hold a monthly contest / raffle for a (physical?) prize. Like an iPod, or Sporting Event tickets, or some shit that don't cost you too much cake - that people just can't download from BGOL. Maybe they have to have access to a (legit) partner site, I dunno. Charge people like a $1.00 for each entry.
People will figure out a way to collect their winnings anonymously, trust.
If it's a sporting event, leave them tickets at *will call* under a different name.

- Non-Porn Celebrity Appearances:

Your site traffic stats ALONE are enough to entice certain celebs.
The money you generate from this type of stuff will probably cover your server bills.
Even tho you will make MORE from *membership fees*, you could run the risk of losing your environment, if too few people decide to join.

Kats are gonna be surprised at how many people will join since it will be mandatory. Most of the vets who post have stated that $10 a year isn't a problem and there will be mad lurkers joining also. My cousin has donated and he hasn't made a single post. So those people will provide for the expenses and the hot posters will continue to post.
Most will probably think it's worth it for less than a dollar per month to join for the news, comedy, etc. with music, porn & movies being icing on the cake.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people on here who don't know shit about torrents or where to find the content that's posted here. A lot of people pm on here to ask how to find hidden links so you know they wouldn't be able to find shit if it wasn't laid out in front of their faces. Convenience, if not anything else will have people droppin' that $10 per year.
If kats didn't give a fuck they wouldn't be here going back and forth. They would just bounce, period. Some are just coming to the realization that the free ride on this particular site is just about over.
